What's new

India (191 & 466) beat England (290 & 210) by 157 runs at the Oval to take a 2-1 lead in the series

Almost took Root with inswinging yorker.

It’s been a long time since we have seen reverse swing bowling of this quality at the Oval, or indeed anywhere in England. This is rare and it is special. Enjoy it.

I guess intent can be also a double edged sword. On sky i think one of the commies said about trying to gvie root strike and to look positive. I guess Ham got sucked into it.
But gr8 bowling by our guys. Jads is drying the runs from one end, and now taking wickets too.
Jazz boom is bowling like a dream. I think some of the deliveries he bowled, is reminiscent of when he was at his peak(IMHO) agains Windies in early 2019 in that tour-some of the clean bolwleds in that series were simply waqar-esqe...
cmon 4 more good ones to go, and as i type - another waqar exocet almost squeezes thru root's bat onto the stumps...cmon jazz boom...

New ball due in 9 overs, may not need 9 more overs to bowl England out though lol. Or might not even want to take the new ball with what they’ve got this one doing.

England have themselves to blame for not capitalising on India's low total in their first innings.

Also, Moeen Ali is mentally the weakest international cricketer I've ever come across.

He shouldn't play for England in tests ever again. -

No bottle tops available else Bumrah would have cleaned up the English batting by now.

C'mon Bro, am indian but lets not infer that bottle tops gave waqqr 300 odd wickets.
He still had talent, rocket speed, accuracy, attitude and simply was a genius.
The two W's were my idols as well as of several others, lets appreciate magic and brilliance for what it is ...

Moeen Ali was also a liability during the 2019 WC. Dropping him only helped England's cause.

England need to move on from him.

England haven't taken this test series seriously and may well pay for this with Ashes

Lol. You can say what you want. It is what it is.

Its a heartening sight for us guys too, at least you have the Anderson & broad specials every season for the last so many years...and considering the likes of woakes, robinson, as well as the half a dozen who are injured, i'd say english pace bowling stocks are all time high and should serve you well - come the ashes...but ca'nt say the same abbout ur spin...

agree! :)

Woakes has a pretty robust technique tbh, he looks a better and more comfortable player at the crease than most of our specialist batters.

I must say Root is pathetic captain. He knew how good Indians were at applying pressure on the last day at Lords yet he chose to bowl first again. He's been asking for too much from his aweful batsmen.

I won't really blame who got out on inswinging yorkers. Even Root was almost gone.

I was surprised to see Moeen sent ahead of Woakes. Moeen and Bairstow both are weak in defense.

Does wicket needs to be slow for reverse swing? Even on this wicket, there was no reverse swing on first three days. I don't know the science behind pitch's contribution in reverse swing. I am just asking for knowledge. I have never seen reverse swing on green wickets regardless of skill of the bowler.

Pitch is more abrasive now.

No, it needs to get dry, which it did later.

That is his way of preparation for Ashes.

If these two can bat 30 overs then Eng will be closer to save this test.

I guess Reverse is on more abrasive surfaces like in SC or say aus-of late. Green wickets are generally aiding conventional swing and i guess made harder when its the seam wobbles. Dont think pace off the wicket makes much of a difference as much as the window u have for reverse swing for eg 3-4th day onwards with a ball thats approx 35 overs old or so.
plus u need skill in spades, and the whole team effort in maintainng the shine on one side.

Australia must be happy with Root as England captain likewise hope Roots batting form takes a dip

Eng lost 4 wickets for 18 runs. about 6 to 7 overs. Only Rain can save England. Happy to be proven wrong

Sure, it's hard, but I am simply thinking from Eng's point of view.

What do the gr8 minds think, will they take new ball at 80 ov? or take it at 85-87 - to keep jazz boom fresh for the new ball and continue with jads at one end and try thakur perhaps?

Joe Root is like Sachin Tendulkar. Great batsman and lone warrior in a weak team but not great captain. He is going through a Bradmanesque phase but this is the phase where they lost the series to New Zealand and it is not looking good now vs India at this point.

Both options will be fine, but Eng has to hope that these two last for a while. It may not be hard to face a new ball except Jadeja may get more out of it. Anyway, Indians need 4 good balls here.

At this point, it looks a miracle for a draw too.

I think it is Bhumrah who took the pitch out of the equation, otherwise, it is not that hard to bat. Eng still has to bat really well to get a draw here.

and Ashes coming

Kohli is sledging Root about something but Manjrekar can't stop droning on and on about "the new ball being due in 1.1 overs" ::J

It is pretty easy to defend. Pitch is a belter.

It is done for Eng. Playing shots started the collapse and this was nothing ball as well.

No team in men's Test history have made more ducks against a single opponent than England have against India this year.

England v India, 2021: 30 ducks
India v West Indies, 1983: 27 ducks
Australia v West Indies, 1984: 26 ducks

I see great potential in him he can became india's frontline bowler in LOI's

Bumrah reached his 100 test wickets in 24 tests.
Siraj is on 29 test wickets in 8 tests. I know its not a linear progression in cricket always but have high expectations from this lad now

Some staggering numbers for Eng

India should have won the first test also. This is effectively 3 - 1 and more likely 4 - 1. England have been thrashed by India.

Bumrah takes 2nd new ball. Finally sanity by Kohli.

Is there a rain song for England. Their luck has run out since last year. More losses on the way. A clean sweep in Ashes would be joyful

Rahane drops one in slips. So he can't even field now.

Am glad at least some one is of 'my gen'....:afridi
that series, Malcolm M sending the bat out of Sunny G's hands at kanpur , holding sending Amarnath's stumps cartwheelling, Wayne daniel breaking the stumps on one occasion....
That series was in terms of sheer pace on display, the quickest i ever saw, on indian soil...
