Gill has been a disappointment since Australia.

Stokes opening England bowling! When was the last time this happened?

C4 are saying a tummy bug has spread through the England side. Can see Stokes coming off his run and keeping going to the pavilion toilet :)))

Seems England have misread the pitch again. There's sufficient carry and bounce in the pitch for them to have picked a second fast bowler here.

All our openers have problem with incoming deliveries.

Gill, Mayank, Shaw and Rohit. In England, all four will struggle.

My bet for three picks will be Rohit, Gill and Vihari. KL should be tried in the middle order as he hasn't played any red ball cricket in recent times.

Broad would have been handy on this pitch.

I agree, this pitch would have suited him more than any other fast bowler in the England squad.

It's still not a wicket where the side batting first should be bundled out for 200 though. Reckon 400 is about par for this surface.

Poor batting from us so far. Not being able to rotate even strike.

India should bring back KL Rahul on top. I cant repeat it like broken record every time. We are just wasting a supremely talented batsman who is at his peak years by warming the bench.

I remember him being quite handful for us during their last India trip in '16.

All of us saw his peak years in England last time. He averages less than 35 now and you want him back as an opener lol. He should only play LOI's and that too because he is keeping wickets these days. Your other specialist batsman Pandya is also warming the bench these days and someone like Washington is preferred over him. :inti

England will need to bowl india out for 200 odd in 1st inns if they want to stay in this match.

Hmm...dosent happen in the IPL...in all these years......throw in test cricket....how convenient....

The drone shots of the stadium is an an absolute wow sight....but the night shots were a different level...beyootiful stadium....

Rahul was our most successful batsman when Australia toured India in 2017. He never got to play in India after that as test opener. He failed in Eng in 2018 and subsequently in Australia tour lost his place as an opener. Lots of water has flown under the bridge since and the kind of form he is in, he deserves another chance as opener atleast in India. That 35 avg is not an exact representation of his calibre....he is 45-50 avg test batsman warming the bench unfortunately.

Gill might end up warming the bench if he doesn't click in the second innings.

This is our 550th test match, 4th team to play that many after England, Australia & WI.

I am a big fan of Gill but he has not hit his peak years yet. He is still young and better part of his career ahead of him. Rahul on the other hand is at his peak years now and we are just wasting him on bench.

So basically we are playing Gill who is yet to hit his peak and likes of Pujara/Rahane who has passed it. And benching the player who is actually in his peak years :))

Ok my bad. Wrong to label Bess as a all-rounder but a bowler who can bat. Still a bowler light though.

I think seven batters were OK but would have left Bess out and picked Broad or Stone (Archer is injured). Root could have bowled as second spinner.

A woeful day for England who are getting truly stuffed in this series now.

The only glimmer of hope for them going into stumps was that batting looked a bit tricky out there for India as well, particularly when they were facing the evergreen Jimmy Anderson — who returned a slightly jaw-dropping 1 wicket for 0 runs from 5 overs.

But the inescapable problem faced by England, even if they stay in the game by knocking over India for 250 (which their bowlers and fielders have the ability to do), is going to be that most of the English batters look like rabbits in headlights in these “subcontinental sporting” sorts of conditions.

The 205 all out may have had a bit of heart behind it and was a marginal improvement from last week, but it still goes down as a markedly below-average score for a Test match in India.

At this point the writing is on the wall for this series, which was looking quite balanced half way through at 1-1. Unfortunately, the England batters are now so psychologically scarred and mentally shot after that 2-day 3rd Test that they are just not looking like winners this week.

It was "umpire's call" on hitting the wicket. Bit of bad luck for Gill.
It was but regardless, he is in a rut in this series. I'm one of his biggest fan and have been vouching for his selection for long but he is not helping his cause by this string of low scores.

He needs to score some runs in the 2nd innings or else he'll find it difficult to be an automatic pick in WTC final and subsequent England series.

Can india get 300 runs tomorrow or will bowl out less than 250?? India want atleast 100 runs lead

A much better batting from Eng here. Some intent and also use of feet.

The team does not have the skills to bat against top-quality bowling on turners, but at least some intent and use of feet were shown.

Pitch had enough for pace and spin both. Eng is probably a bowler short here. It was good that Eng won the toss and batted in the best conditions.

Poor effort by England. But by no means they are out of the game just yet. If they somehow restrict India to less than 250 and score enough runs to have them chase 200+ in a 4th innings, it will be a daunting task because pitch will undoubtedly start breaking apart by then.

This Indian batting doesn’t give any confidence in batting on their own wicket like their previous counterparts.

England had the chance to bat well in 1st inning and take a big advantage. 250 would have given them with an advantage as I am not too sure about our batting as you would expect more turn next day than today. But 210 ain't much for England.

The England batsmen put up a better display in Ahmedabad than they had managed previously, but still ended the day in a troubled position, after India reached 24/1, a deficit of 181, by stumps on day one.

Axar Patel once again had the better of England, returning a fine 4/68 after the visitors had opted to bat. However, England managed to cross 200 for the first time in the series after the first Test thanks to attacking knocks from Ben Stokes (55) and Dan Lawrence (46).

The pitch wasn’t as much of a turner as it was during the third Test, with even the seamers finding something in it early on. Batting seemed easier, although as the day progressed, the pitch did offer some turn.

England, despite opting to bat, had a troubled start, reduced to 30/3 with all of Zak Crawley, Dom Sibley, and captain Root back in the hut for single-digit scores. Axar had both the openers dismissed in consecutive overs, first cleaning up Sibley with an inside-edge, and then reaping the rewards when Crawley looked to attack him and miscued.

When Root, the lynchpin of their batting, was then trapped in front with a sharp incoming delivery from Mohammed Siraj, who had replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the side, England were in trouble. It was then that Stokes too charge.

He first put on a 48-run stand with Jonny Bairstow, who had survived a nervy phase initially, to revive the innings, and then added a further 43 with Ollie Pope. The partnerships helped England cross the 100-run mark, but losing Stokes midway through the second session was a blow. Stokes had taken the attack to the spinners on his way to 55, slamming two sixes en route, but he was undone by a Washington Sundar arm ball.

England did well to ensure the wicket didn’t trigger a collapse. Lawrence partnered Pope to take the side through to Tea, and then extended the partnership on resumption, putting on 45 off 15 dogged overs. Lawrence, following the Stokes mantra, took the attack to the spinners as well, even as wickets fell at the other end.

Pope’s defence was breached by Ashwin for 29, and that triggered an implosion that undid England’s good work till that point. The visitors lost five wickets for just 39 runs to be bowled out for 205, with Jimmy Anderson the last man standing at 10*.

In the 12 overs that remained in the day, India lost one big wicket – Anderson had opener Shubman Gill trapped in front for nought – but Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma assiduously batted through the remaining overs, ensuring the wickets remained intact going into stumps.

The first hour of the second morning will be crucial.

Lots of inexperienced players for England. Openers play a big role in the subcontinent. Being walking wickets will put pressure on the middle order.

They should just award the trophy to whomever has the highest points. Nonetheless, Ind v NZ would be a fair final. Would hate to see a useless player like Tim Paine go to final and crush NZ.

Those were better batting pitches for sure, still can't fathom how poor our batting is in this series save Rohit, challenging pitches or not!

Imagine if Rohit was given a consistent run as a test opener since 2013!! Would be giving Smith and Kohli a run for their money by now in test cricket.

England with this bowling line up would have struggled massively if India won the toss and batted first. Still, If our batters play the 1st one hour carefully, we should get a good lead

The only fair outcome for the Final is NZ vs Ind as overall they have been the most consistent winners. It would be a good final to watch as it would take place in England where the better side will win it.

If Eng can take a lead here, the game will become interesting.

Apparently, there has been talk of awarding SA the points for the cancelled Australia tour. If that happens then India will go through even if they lose.
