What's new

India [289/3] defeat Australia [286/9] by 7 wickets and win 3rd ODI; Win series by a 2-1 margin

Daaaaa n Iyer. Where was all this in the first and second game boy? Good boy. He is reading much better now. Just needs to pick it up fast. Short balls I mean.

Iyer smashed Starc for six. That too short of a length. so far he has hit all his boundaries against Hazlewood and Starc

Indian batsmen have made falooda of Starc. Starc needs some rest, He has been woeful on this tour.

IS BCCI running low on funds or something? Aussies should have rested Cummins, starc and hazelwood after their summer.

Seriously though; what is the purpose of this series? India would have been better served had they went to NZ couple weeks early and got used to the conditions there.

Players can opt for rest if they feel it is burden for them. It's all about money for players to broadcasters to stadiums.

Trescothick had issues with travelling.Homesickness I guess

Yes that did play a role but he said in his autobiography "Coming back to me":

"I've not brought it out for people to use as a self-help book, to say this is how you cope with anxiety and depression. It's just to get it out in the open – there have been so many questions left unanswered and I've not helped that process. But this is the opportunity, and I hope people can understand why I did a few things I did"

There are different types of depression. He might have had issues with travel only

Jonathan Trott had same issue I think .when I watched him in 2011 world cup ,he was so classy.

True. He didnt have a lot of shots and great SR but he averaged 51 in ODI cricket and played some solid knocks at test level as well.

Iam not sure Dhawan will be there in next world cup,he is already 34 so we need Shaw/Gill/Mayank to open.
Rahul should be there only in t20 not in odi.
Rohit,Kohli are locked
Iyer at no 4
Pant at no 5
Only we need no 6
Pandya at no 7.

Can India make the match interesting lol I don't trust Pandey. May be they will send Dhawan in wheel chair

Bumrah is already best ever bowler from India (He surpassed even all spinners from India). His next target is only to compete with the ATG bowlers from World History (He is also bowling in this batting friendly era!) Never ever I had so much confidence watching an Indian bowler bowl...! He is the difference in this match too... (The target would easily have been 320+)

I don't agree. The score was less because Shami took big wickets. He got Warner when Bumrah was struggling with wides. Then Smith wicket made a difference of atleast 20 runs

Ofcourse Bumrah is best ever. But just economy never works.Batsmen can just line up other bowlers.Imagine if Warner played 25 overs

All those who wanted middle order tested should be reasonably happy. Any slowness from Iyer would have put India in a precarious situation.

They consciously blocked, left the ball against Bumrah. IT was as if they were very cautious about not losing wickets to him.

Rahul has done well as an opener.Plus can keep when required

Gill at 4,Iyer at 5,Pant at 6

That's okay.Still gotta make them take risks and induce false shots.Else they can make up which they couldn't

Shaw
Rohit
Kohli
Iyer
Rahul
Pant
Pandya
Jaddu or Gowtham or kuldip
Saini
Shami
bumrah

This should be our team going forward.

you can't ignore Bhuvi or Chahar in T20

Also Krunal is better than Sundar and Dube

good that iyer has shown up tonight. Hope he plays more such innings against quality opponents. Good to be proven wrong. As for pandey, don't even know why is he being picked up. He is kaif of 2010s good for fielding and played one great innings and mostly unnoticeable ones. Good series overall for both teams. Lived up to the expecation. Also, showed India the weaknesses in its bowling after a long time. Hope corrective measures are in place.
Great series for
Rohit, Kohli, Rahul
Warner, Smith

This series is like a mini-version of the 2013 batting flood series in which batsmen completely dominated the game from both sides.

Believe NZ series will be as competitive as it promises to be and India wins it.

Great series for Smith,he may not be better than Kohli in ODIs but he is good on his right.

Spot on. Agarwal can get a nod ahead of Shaw as opener.

Mayank I is my favourite player man. I want him to focus on tests. He is phenomenal in the long format. He is good in odi too. He could come in for Shaw no doubt but I prefer to keep him for tests alone. He is truly a special player.

India were missing out on no.6 slot. Maybe if they can give Rahul that no.5 position, Pant can be shifted to 6 and that will fix the issue.

A middle order of Iyer, Rahul, Pant and Pandya seems far better than what we have been watching since 2015. Let's see how things goes in the small grounds of New Zealand.

I like Dhawan but he might not be a part of NZ series, so we may get to see Agarwal open. I don't want Rahul being used as opener if Dhawan is dropped. Give it to Agarwal or Shaw. Shaw will also have good learning experience playing alongside Rohit and Kohli. But I am afraid management might send Rahul as opener. He should be made as a permanent middle order for India as the middle order has been a huge problem from quite some time.

Constantly shifting up and down.Even Kohli found it tough to adjust at 4

Its time hes given a permanent position

I agree with the overall point but deep down, I know it's not the reason why he failed today.

He has a rhythm issue.

When it's on....it's ON.

When it's not.....I know it's just a matter of time for him to get out.

For some reason, he gets into this predicament in ODIs. Dunno why.

All I can hope is he gets out of this phase.

Great knock by Iyer.

19,390 time he is performing when I don't watch him.

When I watch him, he almost always NEVER scores. :))

Rohit has been brilliant.

Man, imagine if the Indian team actually TRIED to build a proper team.

One can dream. lol.

NOt sure why you are laughing. Kohli tries to roll his wrists even when he plays half trackers from Zampa. Something Rohit won't hesitate to put them in the stands.

Miandad said never play straight against leg spinners you will either get caught or bowled.

Pant is a no.7 bat at best. Not a no.6 He is not a full time batsman yet.

Maybe we should take a look at Suryakumar Yadav for No. 6.

In a fair world, he would have been tried out by now.

Indian cricket is run on perception.

The fact that we have Jaddu for T20s proves it. NEVER has he ever been a good T20 player.

Be it country or club.

Another player is Dhawan. Horrible in T20Is. But gets played due to branding and IPL.

Shreyas Gopas is another guy who has constantly been overlooked. Like we chose Axar in the squad but not Gopal.

What's wrong with our selectors :))

But rhythm is affected by sudden change in batting order

He has shown consistency when he opened in a string of games like in WC

What a comrepehensive series victory! Lol at some of the posters who were over the moon and mocking India after Aus's 1st ODI win.

You can add Shardul Thakur as well.

They can't differentiate formats.Jadeja Shami Dhawan shouldn't be playing T20Is

Rohit opened in Tests coz he is successful opener in LOIs :))

I can't wait to see how that goes once we tour abroad

He was consistent in the WC but didn't bat great.

No rhythm imho.

But to be fair to him, there was a fear of him getting dropped after a failure.

From what I have seen, KL bats best when he bats in a natural free flowing state. He can start slow but talking about the flow.

When he tries to be too cautious, he offsets his rhythm and he ends to make a lot of mistakes.

Even before the dismissal today.....he was streaky.

That Rohit opener is going get exposed in the MOST PAINFUL manner. :))

I totally expect Rohit to cement his spot by scoring a 50-80 in one of the four innings and screwing us in an all important future series.

It will come with confidence in his place

In IPL he tonks best bowlers coz hes assured to open

Also I don't think he is good at rotating strike,so when boundaries are not there he's stuck

I don't even expect that lol. They better carry a backup opener

Shaw
Mayank
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Vihari or Rahul or gill if blooded in
Pant
Jaddu Ashwin or bhuvi depending on conditions
Ishant
Shami
bumrah

This is by far the best team in the world if selected. India should win the world test championship with this team above.

Shaw is again injured.

Out of action for months I think.

Based on his performance in Aus/NZ till now...I expect that.

He will make a score that will not be good enough for the team but good enough for his spot.

Asad Shafiq types.

But for him, the bar is low (atleast Asad will score a 100 when he clicks).

For him, even a well made 40 or 70 would do. lol.
