What's new

India (329, 286) defeat England (134, 164) by 317 runs to win 2nd Test; Series level at 1-1

Aww Ben Foakes, suckered out on the stroke of lunch.

Junaids if you can watch please check out the crowd reactions of the indiscernible and unsophisticated crowd watching Test Cricket on a Week day in the Chennai Heat.

They should have been tapping the huge pool of South Asians in the northern leagues for decades, but institutional racism stops these guys progressing.

They need to make wickets to help spinners too, as Somerset CCC have done at Taunton (bringing on Leach and Bess).

I think English counties simply rely on seamers and spin is just a filler. That results in pitch have very little for spinners.

Trying to sweep everything is not going to work. Even root was dropped while sweeping.

Sweep is a good option, but it should be selective.

Slightly less than good length can be swept here.

Ashwin swept effectively, England trying to copy his approach

Yes, the sweep will well on certain balls, but I think Eng is playing too many sweep shots and some time ball is not even there to sweep. I guess that's the only scoring shot they can play and that results in being predictable.

Look at the way Rohit and Kohli reacted to Kuldeep's wicket.

Complete contrast.

That hug by Rohit.....

Rooting for Kuli....

First turner England get and they get wrecked.

They got 6 roads before this. or was it 5? Anyway, on turning tracks England's problem is bowlers. They simply can't have someone like Ali as the main bowler. Not sure they did not play extra spin here. Stokes has hardly bowled.

Yeah was thinking the same. I don't think Kohli is trying to sabotage Kuldeep. But you get the feeling Rohit is better with youngsters and they too seem to gravitate towards him. Remember that beef outing and it was all the younglings out with him.

At this rate he'll get to 400 test wickets before Lyon. lol, Lyon has been hovering there for quite some time now and Ashwin was quite behind him.

Lyon would get 400 in his 101 st Test , Ashwin in his 76 th Test , its a huge difference

Yeah... Makes a world of difference to the team psyche in the end.

Kohli needs finished products.

I have a hunch that the team leadership group (seniors) is gaining a lot of clout with the addition of Rohit.

Rohit
Rahane
Ashwin
Maybe pujara and Bumrah

One guy's views won't overrule everyone anymore.

Rohit has been very vocal about DRS calls these days.

can india win day night test?

Eng will at least have a decent chance in the day-night test. Pacers will come into the picture. Spinners are not able to avoid bowling poor ball from time to time.

Ali bowls a few good balls in between. But lots of buffet balls as well. He was going at 4 plus runs in the first innings.

Bowling isn't the only issue, they've scored less than 300 runs combined across both innings..

England top order is very inexperienced. Stokes is a certified bunny of Ashwin. That puts awful lot of pressure on Root.

Pant's keeping has been brilliant on a very difficult pitch

Lyon plays in Aus tho.

Apples to oranges comparison mate.
But thats where Lyon is born and brought up. If he can't take wickets at his home, where else he'll?

Btw, would you discount the wickets taken by Cummins and Hazlewood in Australia just because they've come on pitches which are conducive for fast bowling?

We are needlessly imparting respectability to England total.

Moeen is a such a nice man. Never seen him dissing or sledging anyone.

This is how every single batsman of England should have played on this pitch what did they achieve by defending they knew what would happened moeen ends up being the top scorer by going all out that was the only way to go on this pitch. Kuldeep finally getting revenge from moeen Ali from that ipl onslaught which basically put a pause on his career which took quite a drastic turn after that. Anyways congratulations to india on a great win but kind of rude of ashwin there to not hug moeen he just walked away.

And he gets respected then by Virat as well.
That is how it should be if you run your mouth like some players do then be ready for some words back.

Virat and moeen play for RCB lol not surprising these two are basically the main reason behind putting a pause on kuldeeps career that over where he got smacked by moeen Ali in ipl kuldeep wasn’t the same bowler after that he made him cry to lmao.

Moeen scored a few cheap runs. But it would have increased his test batting average so its all good.

Well it was clean ball striking don’t need to be so bitter had all of England’s player done the same thing atleast they would have gotten much closer to the total

Kuldeep in Tests has impressive record. HE was hardly given bowling here. He created a chance against Root. Took 2 wickets.

This. Someone citing his IPL show is desperation of the highest order.

I'm not sure of the history but I think Virat has something against Kuldeep for some reason.

This was the first test england have played on an actual rank turner, not a flat turner that they played on all these years. England batsmen struggle vs spin although this was a tough pitch.

Moeen and Leach bowled poorly considering the amount of turn that was available. India should not have been anywhere near 300 in the first innings

I hope Dom Bess replaces one of the batsmen. It's clear eng need a 3rd bowler and stokes bowled 2 overs. Bairstow will most likely come back at no. 3. There really isn't much that can be changed to a poor top 3.
There are two positives amidst this thrashing. Foakes and Olly Stone. Foakes was brilliant with both gloves and bat

I really hope england persist with olly stone, not only does he have pace but accuracy as well. He is more threatening than Archer.

It’s not about that the fact is that he lost all his confidence after that game and his bowling wasn’t the same and he couldn’t be a regular after that in all formats he’s playing a test after 2 years he even said he felt like he was debuting again.

Had fun listening to the post match with Root talking about being happy to be 1-1 going into the 3rd test, learning about playing these conditions from the opposition, different pink ball for the D/N game. Kohli speaking about the low energy level without crowds, and how from the 2nd inns first game things began to shape in the right direction (which was evident).

Compare that to a Pakistan post match and all you'll hear is boys played well, credit goes to boys.

Lol how does a 160 in one innings trump ashwins 8 wickets and 106?
Because that 1 innings was far more important in the context of this test. Once we had 329 in the first innings, English batsmen simply wilted.

Oh please kohli this is why you are so fake as a person man said Toss wouldn’t have mattered what a ridiculous and pathetic statement he would have been saying the opposite if India had lost the toss. He on many occasions has blamed the toss on his losses and now he’s saying it wouldn’t have mattered just cause his team won
