Tall order. Their averages are 34 each. Even if they go three standard deviations above their average, that likely means a century at best. In fairness Buttler's best innings is 258, which is well outside his average.

Stokes and Buttler are showing the others how to bat and stick at the crease. Very good application and never die attitude.

No wickets fall in the session. Proper test match batting from Stokes and Buttler.
 
Amazing contest between Buttler and hostile reverse swing of Shami.
Really impressed with Buttler lately. He was a bottler but now has become a fighter.
Stokes on other side isnt looking comfortable at all.
 
Is a huge miracle about to happen? Are the Indian bowlers back to their normalcy?
 
Overhead conditions make a critical difference in England, now the sun is out and the batsmen look set.

Stokes will have to play a blinder to win this for England. England have shown good fight but 500 plus is too much but you can never say never

Result is already decided i think.India need one wicket to penetrate again.
 
If the result of the match is anything other than 'India win by abc runs' i'm going to be so angry.
 
If these two win or draw it for England, it will be moments of their lifetime.
 
An ugly fifty from Stokes but that is what makes it so valuable. He gritted it out.
 
Tremendous fight back, and in English team these two are the only ones that inspire some hope when things aren't going their way.
 
Buttler's adjusted his game from the previous test- he's made a conscious decision not to walk at the bowler this innings.
 
Looks like there won't be any wickets until tomorrow morning.

Brilliant hundred by Jos Buttler. It is never easy to establish yourself and improve in test cricket once you get the spicy taste of LOs and IPLs.

Whatever happens this is just lifting England team up! Probably this could be the only win in this series for India (and that too could be spoiled by rain tomorrow!) England (both team & curators) are going to strategize things for the next matches. Probably they can prepare an in-between pitch so that Indian bowlers don't take much advantage and at the same time their bowlers can try & pick wickets (They wouldn't mind even drawing next matches... 2-0, 2-1 should be fair result for them!) Something similar to what happened between Australia vs. India in India last time! But turning pitches once made will be hell for all the days, but bit of sun can easily flatten up these English pitches!

If India got them out cheaply in second innings as well, then it would have hurt their confidence a lot! At the same time India will also be bit drained after this match! Uneven bounce and a bit of roughage is a must for an average bowling attack to produce result (Yes I confess Indian bowling is not extraordinary, don't get carried away by 1st innings efforts, that's bit like Stuart Binny vs Bangladesh which looked great to eyes! But we must appreciate Indian team for the turnaround and efforts after first 2 test matches!)
 
Doubt Bairstow will bat.

So Only Woakes, Broad and Anderson remaining after this wicket.

If India cannot win from this position, it will be a massive failure.

England's best batsmen is a guy who won them Ashes back in 2015.

Not Bairstow, not Buttler unless they dominate one Ashes series completely.

With 21 overs to go, 1 wicket before the close would be a win here.
 
Won't lose, no chance. Remember the first test between Aus and SA this year.

These things keep happening.
 
If India somehow manage to lose this test they should forfeit the remaining tests and just go home and play some matches against Afghanistan A or something as that would be their level.
