He is not getting the right position yet and his approach is muddled because of that. He will never be a batsmen in range of Kohli or rohit. But he is good enough to be in team and can rely on him for good knocks in future. Think you are setting a high bar for him he won’t achieve it not yet

This is his first substantial innings against any top opposition in ODis. That being he has decent talent which was never in question but his temperament and pressure handling skills.

If you exclude his 196 avg in 3 matches against Zimbabwe when he remained not out twice his average is still around 30s and SR below 80. Its surprising how people have double standards when judging others performing against Zim.

It was a top knock today but he still has a lot to do to prove himself in ODIs.

I don't think pant should be in there either, but pant has IPL t20 average of 36 @160, test centuries in england and australia and an FC average of 50 to show for as an excuse. What does Samson have? for all his ipl hype, he's never managed to actually get into top 10 scorers there in any season and averages less than pant there too.

Plan out your innings.

At 5 or 6...it's all about bang bang..or cleaning up other's mess.

And if you fail, you will be first chucked out cos you wouldn't have had chance to build your case in other innings lik the top 3 bats do.
 
Australia is a great team, they should trash this Indian attack

based on how many innings hes opened in ODIs ?
some of you are forgetting hes played only 28 ODI matches so far in 6 years and being asked to bat in every position , its a a miracle he still averages and has SR of 84 . Rohit cannot bat swiftly from word go , even in T20s . KL has no such issues , his problem if anything is wasting his starts but if TM can settle him in one batting spot for 10 games both his SR and average will go much higher .
 
Smith is playing like a tail ender here, unless he gets a hundred here, almost match losing stay already.

The planning part is his biggest issue, he can't really plan an innings, whenever he gets close to a milestone he slows down, then he can't pick up pace to cover for it. This isn't team rahul, this is team india. Right now he either settles in to the middle order or he sits out hoping that one of the openers gets injured.

His first instinct is to protect his wicket. Look at the his game. He goes right across cover the stumps first and plays from there.

Just doesn’t look the player he was - even that last boundary looked a laboured effort; next one was better though.
 
Those were not bad balls. All at 145ks. Smith somehow managed to touch the ball each time with no real footwork. Comes naturally to him i usppose.

Iyer is useless , never rated him . Generally , you dont need great technique to open in LOIs . You get runs for even bad shots in power plays and limited players can easily get way with a 15 over bonus of field restrictions .

you will be up against Rabada, Cummins, Starc. Most of htem will be good bowlers. You need bare minimum skills to do well there.
 
Saini has a good short ball. But his line is terrible. Always on the hips. IT should be around off stump.
 
It is India vs Australia. It is already boring. May be beause two fugly batsmen are batting lol Laced with full of unattractive shots.
 
Saini’s pace around 140-145 is not treathning. He needs to mix it up with a slower balls or bowl close to 150. 142s is nothing for these Aussies on a flat wicket.

He hurries them. Look where Finch stands against saini. ALmost close to stumps. Just that the line is wrong.
 
Rahul has really impressed me with his glove work thus far! Honestly, I don't mind having him as the regular WK batsman in LOIs at this rate.
 
Labu should enjoy these conditiosn honestly. Good batting strip. He is in great touch. Just that we have to find out whether he knows how to construct a ODI innings.

They invested so much into pant, it would be funny if they decide to replace him with another batter.

Don't think that will happen though, Rahul is just a back up keeper every team needs, won't replace pant

Not sure if these guys can win the game, will keep us in it with very few dot balls though. Carey/Turner has to play a big innings
 
Labuschange has faced 10 balls or so I can tell he will be a top ODI player. Whoever selected him in the first place and helped him development in the last year deserves so much credit.

He enjoys playing with Smith and Warner. He is close with Smith off the field. Playing with experience like that helps a lot.

Labuschange is proof that selecting players alone on stats is nonsense. He has character and a strong mentality. All he needed was big scores and confidence.

Imagine if he was selected in Pakistan with his initial record a year ago, our fans would have gone crazy.
 
Can someone tell me how many matches have Kuldeep &Chahal won for India after Dhoni stopped playing LOIs?

There's a clear lack of discipline or direction or skill whatever you call. Been ages since I saw these two guys picking a handful of wickets. Spin department looks clueless without Dhoni behind, and clown's captaincy.
