Roston chase will dedicate his century to Harbhajan singh for the "motivation" he gave before this match.
And the whole WI bowling will be more pumped up. And all batsmen are ready to do a curran for this match. He did the same to India also after they lost the 2nd test in Eng. His verbatim goes both ways. He should be selected as the motivator for teams, a psychologist is more expensive.

On the other hand, Indian selection has been as pathetic as always.
If only someone scores half of the runs or takes wickets overseas, they could be seen as contenders. If only the current bunch of jokers - like Amarnath said - had more nerve to pick right teams for matches.

Chase has been thorn in flesh for India for quite some time now.
 
India will have to bat very well to beat WI in this test. WI have made sure that they won't be pushovers at least in this test. With some incisive bowling and luck, they can even win this test.

India thrashed England in 3 out of 4 tests they won in the series played in 2016
Then in the final test against Aus,they won by 8 wickets

It's the Pakistani which needs to bat 1st to win a match in their home(UAE)
Even SL thrashed them when they Pak had to bat 2nd
Just pray that Aus &/or NZ team doesn't win toss against u guys else u will get embarrassed again and remain at no.7 spot for a long time
 
Dropping Shami for Shardul :)))

Shardul Thakur seems to have someone heavily backing him. There are so many better bowlers than him in domestics. Yet the selectors continue to give him so many chances in spite of failing repeatedly.

Idea was right, just that Siraj and not trundler Thakur should have replaced Shami.

I have seen Prashad quite often, hardly missed India/PAK games that time. I don't think it's fair to judge him along with Thakur. It's not just "some" success - guy was quite good for at least 5-6 years, but he was a seem bowler - needed to pitch it up and most of the Indian games played on roads in 90s, he went for plenty. But, he had 7 5fors & a 10for In Test.

In between, Prashad has a great SAF tour in 1996-7, a good English tour in 1996, he took like 6/6 with 2nd ball in that famous Chennai Test (bowled really well in that series), bowled well in 1999 NZ tour. His biggest problem was, during his time IND played too many games with SRL, either at home or in SRL - both on roads, and that time for 4-5 years, SRL truly was the best team in world for such wickets; they man handled him like a torture.

It's not fair to put Prashad down for this Thakur guy.
 
Rosco has been a great player for the WI.

A disciplined but less-talented version of Carl Hooper.
 
zonal/quota based slot allotment system still seem to have its place in Indian cricket team. Unwise to expect this team will do wonders in Aus unless it has the best suited players for the conditions. Aus tour might well end some careers too, for the good.
 
HYDERABAD, India – A patient and calculated innings from Roston Chase saw the WINDIES fight back against India on the opening day of the second Test match in Hyderabad to close on 295-7, after being 113-5.

Captain Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that promised runs to the batsmen. The opening pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell looked set to attack India and get a solid foundation on the board. Powell in particular took a liking to the slower bowlers who came on early. He looked fearless against Ashwin who had to complete an over started by Shardul Thakur who left the field due to injury.

Powell survived an LBW review and just when the pair looked settled, he played a wayward shot and was caught by Kuldeep off Umesh Yadav for 22. Kuldeep then came on to take a wicket himself when he had Brathwaite trapped in front the stumps for 14. Shai Hope came to the middle and together with Shimron Hetmyer, they looked like the combination to repair the loss of two quick wickets.

Hetmyer looked fancy with some of his strokes but Hope looked classic with a cover drive amongst his five boundaries. Hope looked set to get his first big total in the 3 innings of this India tour. Umesh Yadav got one to nip back in and clip Hope’s pads and was given out. Hope reviewed but the replays showed that the on-field Umpire was correct. Hetymer was finding his groove but once again Kuldeep got the better of a WINDIES batsman, when he trapped Hetmyer LBW for 12.

Sunil Ambris also played a few strokes of his own which included 3-fours, but on 18 Kuldeep got him to play an inside-out shot and he was caught by Jadeja. Roston Chase started a slow build to his innings. Along with Shane Dowrich, the partnership looked to rebuild the WINDIES innings after the rapid loss of 5 wickets. The pair, knowing each other’s batting styles, rotated the strike nicely, dispatching the bad deliveries when available. They shared a 69-run partnership until Dowrich became another victim of Kuldeep for 30, which included 4-fours and a six.

Chase was joined by Captain Jason Holder and they continued on where Dowrich fell. Holder started slowly, giving Chase free flow to continue the scoring. However, the skipper then got into his own. The pair frustrated the Indian bowlers, forcing Virat Kohli to rotate his unsettled bowlers. Chase and Holder chipped away at getting runs, quick singles and boundaries where available saw both men reach half-centuries. With the score on 286 and a partnership if 104, India took the second new ball in the hopes of breaking this partnership. Umesh Yadav did just that when he got Holder caught behind from a thin edge for a well-crafted 52. This 100-plus run partnership between Roston Chase and Jason Holder saw them become the first pair with three century partnerships for the seventh wicket in Test cricket.

Chase was joined by Bishoo and they safely navigated the remaining time and new ball until the close of play, with the WINDIES on 295/7. Play continues at 9:30am on Saturday with Chase starting the day needing 2 more runs for his fourth Test ton.

WINDIES Head Coach Stuart Law was pleased with the team’s fighting spirit saying, “To fight back from 113-5 to finish on 295-7 was good to see. Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder dug deep to enable us to finish the day just short of 300. Chase was outstanding finishing on 98no and has the opportunity to complete a well-deserved century tomorrow.”

I hear this a lot from fans without much proof.

Since Sachin's retirement from 2013 till before the start of the current series, Rahane is the only Mumbai player that has played test cricket for India.

M Vijay & Raina who are supposedly on CSK quota have been pushed out of the team.

Players from teams like AP, Vidarbha, Saurashtra, etc have more representation today than they ever have before.

Yet, all I hear from fans are zonal quota and CSK quota.
 
This again highlights the question - when Umesh bowled so well in the league match vs Pak why would you replace with toothless ashwin - in CT final. Using the available resources, even in England. Kuldeep played on a pitch in a rain delayed match - when toss was due and team management had enough time to think of. So much for ego and ill-management of resources...

I don't think there are any better pacers in Asian conditions right now than Umesh and Shami.

I still remember Umesh's spells from the 2017 Australia series. He outbowled every single Aussie pacer.

His problem is his consistency. Too many off days for him between good games. I believe the reason is he doesn't do much with the ball and relies on seam of the pitch and reverse swing to get wickets.
 
Will Shaw be able to do justice to the sticker on his bat. Last two batsmen who held this bat just fizzled away

Fantastic observation, that's why I like Bangladeshi cricket fans for their true love for cricket in spite of the hiccups they come across sometimes!

Consistency was his problem in his first 4 years of his career but Umesh has really improved that aspect in recent times.

Since 2017, Umesh has 45 wickets from 14 matches at an avg of 25. And once you factor in that only 1 out of those 14 matches was in SENA, you realise just how good his avg actually is!
 
This match is again a proof of "the contribution of Indian pacers in home test wins!" I hope the detractors again take a note that India doesn't prepare rank turners, fix the tosses, rely on just spinners to win matches at home! Most other teams would have settled for a draw with such matches and pitches!
 
Hope Rahul doesn't throw it away in 2nd innings again. The sooner he break up with his long term girlfriend the better it is for him.

Exactly. The only thing Gambhir's career lacked was longevity.

But he played a key role in India achieving no.1 in tests and played 2 mach winning innings in our WC wins. Thats a great career.
 
WI will need some inspired bowling here , otherwise India will make them run really hard next two days.

On 1998-99 tour of NZ,he was average

He had an opportunity to win us a test there

this shaw kid looks good at home pitches, will be interesting to see how he performs in SENA countries. Hopefully hes selected for the australia series :kp
 
Looks like the inclusion of Shaw has put more pressure on Rahul to perform now. As usual this mental midget is not looking confident while the debutant is playing a dominant role.
 
Rahul's career is limited to IPL now perhaps! He will not start in Australia even if he makes the tour!

Since you referred post 2013, I will not talk about the pathetic pre-2013 system.
Post 2013, Shardul, Unadkat, mohit sharma, One other "fast" bowler from the IPL 'express pacers' league have been drafted into the team - when other good bowlers have been in the sytem.
I have no ill-feeling for them, just that they are of not international standard.

As for our batsmen, Vijay played for more than 1 year without productive results.
Rahane, less said the better. The past 1 year or so both have been poor to say the least.

As for our chairman of selectors, that guy MSK Prasad is unfit , chief selector really?
He was pathetic as a player and more than pathetic as a selector - does not have nerve to fit right/promising/future-good-prospects or grooming players into the team

Now one might say Kohli factor. There again, why to have BCCI selection committee then.
These are my opinions of the current selection committee and team management - based on player results.

Rahul would love to be anywhere near Rohit who is at least a beast in ODIs while Rahul is dud in every format.

Unfortunately his feet movemnet is not even half as good as Kohli's. He looked tentative, nervous almost like he batted like a tailender.

To be honest, the Indian team bosses have made a hash of managing him. Anyone in his place would have lost motivation.
 
I always believed one must play his natural game. Pujara should not play attackingly. Rahul should not go into shell. Intent to get runs should be there regardless of approach.
 
I would have liked to see Shaw vs Clouderson in Eng, might not be possible as age and tour schedule are probably not fitting in the scheme of things.
 
Except for a dead rubber ton on a belter of a surface, what exactly has Rahul done in last 1 year or so?

Well said. This was quoted by Sehwag too, if I am not wrong. When some reporter asked him why are you not defending , following a series of poor scores on one tour. He replied the same way - play your natural game, chances of failure will become less. Do not try anything new.
 
Rahul will start in Australia & would play atleast 1st 2 tests there
And in case he gets a 100 there in a 500 chase where team is reduced to 50-4 he would play next 2 tests as well
 
If Rahul has lost motivation to do well for his country, why the hell is he in Indian team then?
 
Are we so thin on talent that we are playing a demotivated player consistently?

Doesn't matter how many games he played. His decline started abruptly and he lost place in the team in what were supposed to be his prime years.

Agree, things have fast-tracked in Indian cricket system. The cricketing set up and also thanks or no thanks to IPL system. Players are more exposed to attention, this is making/breaking/spoling/re-making new players. So, expectations are high. No time to nurture talent which is of no use. Gambhir had attitude issues, no talent but he made best use of his abilities. We need such openers now. Sadly, in Indian setup, opening slots are mostly made fun of by players like Rahul/Vijay/Dhawan etc - taking into account tests alone. Other top playing countries SENA value openers, so success is good for them. Esp. SA and Aus, Cook before his fall from grace etc...

Rahul is not a naturally attacking batsman. This is a wrong impression created in the minds of fans since the last IPL.

KP was an out and out red ball player since his U-16 days. You can check his List A SR to confirm it - a strike rate of 75.

It was due to IPL and T20s that he developed himself into a shot-a-ball player.

I'm not sure why are we still blaming about India's mismanagement when the problem lies in Rahul's game. He played all the test and LOI matches in England and he's playing his 2nd WI test in a row now. He was benched only during the Asia Cup minus that afghan match. He's not making most out of the chances that he's getting and we still blame the management for it? How long is he going to get this free ride without his consistent performance?
