India [502/7d, 323/4d] defeat South Africa [431, 191] by 203 runs to win 1st Test

Shaw is another home track bully hyped to no limit. Let him come back and tour in SENA conditions and he will be sorted out :inti

not really. dude has serious potential. Check his list A record vs auatralia A. Not sure if he is good vs swing though.

Rohit, Agarwal, Kohli, Saha/Pant all can't play swing bowl. India will be exposed badly by Boult and co. We're already reeling from the epic thumping you guys gave us in semifinals :inti

lol india is going to maul n.zealand in n.z. India have a strong bowling line up. They already received a phainta in india where thunder fodder boult was exposed. He is a **** bowler outside swing conditions.
India is a formidable team and they will prove it in n.z.

You complain about tailor made pitches lmao. what does australia do? tell them not to prepare bouncy pitches.
tell England not to produce green tops. tell s.africa not to produce seaming bouncy pitches.

IND 219/0 (64.0) CRR: 3.42

This will be a big loss for SA!

This is getting pathetic now, gavaskar and Manju are basically shilling for rohit. If he kills someone today, I wouldn't be surprised if these 2 praised him for helping control the population.

Rohit is the biggest star in the team after Kohli, of course they will praise him. Rohit brings money and crowd.

Good knock this from agarwal, now please continue without doing a Murali Vijay esque mistake.

There is a difference between praise and what Gavaskar and Manju are doing. Praise would be for his knock or his good shots, they are praising him to the moon for everything from how he talked in the end of day press conference to how he celebrated his century to his apparent selflessness in taking a 2.

If you are talking just day 1, then 350 ain't happening, 300 is possible but 350 is not. If it's first innings then would be disappointing as anything less than 500 would be huge opportunity missed.

My hunch was 352/3 after day 1 - at first sight of the track & Sunny Bhai isn’t these modern “analyst” who prepares pitch report before watching the wicket😝

It’s 248-0 after 71 overs - theoretically, if I take 90 overs per day (SAF probably would have bowled couple more - bowled 30 in first session), it’s 248-0, after 71 overs on a rain soaked out field .... but no wickets down - probably, I would have been within 3-5% accuracy level had the full day been played yesterday on a dry out field.

I don’t comment much on The Royal version of the game, but on Test cricket, if I do write something, pay attention bro. Not many there to watch a neutral game at 1am in the morning, in the middle of the working week😝

Record for India's highest opening partnership is 413/0.

These two have the opportunity to break it.

No you wouldn't have been , the rain helped SA yesterday to give them a breather, but one big reason why saffers are struggling today is the ball is 60 overs old so it isn't swinging in the mornings which basically blunts the Pacers. If the whole day would have been played India would have crossed 300 but not more, they are bowling defensive lines which is what they would have done yesterday too, while the other 2 seem useless maharaja while toothless is atleast containing us. The pacers would have had the same role yesterday in 3rd session.

Rohit reaches his 150*. Well played.

He should go for 300.

Did South Africa just pick Muthusamy just because he has Indian heritage and assumed he'd be a good spinner? He's a disgrace. Pakistan can lend them like 4 spinners for free.

Not sure which part of India you come from, but you don’t have much idea what SAF bowlers would have gone though in 3rd session, in early October at Vizag. This rain break gave them respite in 3 folds - Indian paid had to go through the same process this morning that took them 15 overs to reach 35 yesterday, bowlers got the rest and the damp outfield softening the ball a bit. Negative line doesn’t work much if the set pair can loft balls effortlessly.

Anyway, it’s theoretical discussion, so I can’t prove or convince.

Rohit has played 28 tests and KL Rahul has played 36 tests. Rohit has revived his test career with this inning. :inti

The set pair would also be tired yesterday, the batsmen today are fresh, so are the bowlers but the reason it took them 15 overs to score 35 doesn't exist today as the ball is 60 overs old and it isn't moving for the Pacers and the spinners are just too poor to spin the ball.

290/0 after 78 overs.

I am a bit surprised South Africa haven't tried part-timers.

Markham and Elgar can bowl useful part-time. Why are they not being utilized?

From over no 70 onwards, against old ball scoring rate is ~6, so I guess it would have been same as well yesterday. And, I have learnt another new term today - Test batsmen being drained out after 4 hours of batting including a 40 minutes lunch & 20 minutes break - that too batsmen groomed in south Asian heat & humidity.

300 runs opening partnership :14:

India's Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal combine for the 14th triple century opening partnership in Test history. By country:

4 - South Africa
3 - India
2 - Australia & England
1 - New Zealand, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh

South Africa badly need some good spinners. They may not win a single Test in subcontinent with current bowling attack.

Only the 3rd 300+ opening stand for India and 14th for any team, second against South Africa.

Great knock from rohit and Now comes the trump card that would have stopped India from getting to 350 yesterday.

South Africa and SL are facing same problem.

They didn't groom many youngsters to replace the legends.

323/1. Run rate slowed down a bit.

Philander is completely useless in subcontinent. This is why he could never be a legend like Steyn.

Terrible mistake by South Africa by not selecting Ngidi or Nortje. Their spinners are not turning it one bit.

Rabada
Nortje/Ngidi
Maharaj
Harmer

would have been excellent. Part timers could have bowled and they could have played the extra batsman. Muthusamy , i fear, may be all round rubbish.

Agree. I wonder why Elgar is not bowling. He bowled a lot on the last tour and picked wickets as well.

South Africa's bowling is toothless on flat pitches. India will destroy this team.

Steyn, ABD and Amla and Kallis can't be replaced.

Agarwal is toying with Maharaj.

It's hard to believe that SA was once by far the best SENA team in Asia. Now they are playing worse than West Indies.

Are people still watching this stale dull boring test match? Were we afraid of Maharaj's pies or are we not confident of Ashwin's bowling that we produced such a flat wicket? It's very clear the match is going to end in a draw. Shameful tactics.

Hehe yesterday you called it a spin pitch. After watching Saffer spinners getting murdered, it has now become a flat pitch eh? :srini

IND 389/3 (107.0) CRR: 3.64

Kohli 20 (40) missed out big time

Green mamba when Ishant and shami bowl and 7th day dustbowl when ash and jadeja bowl. Will instantly go back to being Autobahn when we bat again though. :)

Pitch has been pretty flat. It's starting to break up though. I guess India were confident in their spinners given how fragile SA's batting lineup is.

Hopefully South Africa bats long enough to avoid innings defeat, so that nobody can moan about pitch deteriorating too fast.

Some would say India got lucky because they won toss and bat first. As if batting second has ever prevented India from winning by innings margin.

I would rather see India lose the toss and bat second to provide even tastier beatdowns.

Let's not get facts into the discussion here. This pitch has been a green mamba + spin cobra at the same time. Rohit Sharma has scored given how he is the second coming of Bradman :inti

Yeah definitely. I dont see how Ash and jadeja will do any better than SA spinners unless it starts breaking up. Just hope the rain stays away.

Yeah. India win at home regardless of toss and its been that way for 6.5 years. Pune test being the sole exception. Dont think people realise how unique that is in modern era.

Are you being sarcastic? Ashwin and Jadeja as a unit will obviously do better?

Not so confident brother. Ashwin does not get the revs on the ball that he used to. I thought you of all people would have observed that . Jadeja was getting smashed by WI tailenders last series.

This is India, brother. They're seasoned vets here and used to the ball and pitches facing a fragile lineup. SA have two and half bowlers in their lineup. They can't maintain pressure. India as a unit will.

Hopefully. ash can get through the entire match and his body holds up. This is a must win match for us.

Karun Nair: triple-century in his second Test.

Agarwal: double-century in his fifth Test.

This is the result of a proper batting culture.

These are also signs of some strange pitches!

India should start slogging. Not much time for this test left, no matter how bad the opposition bats. It's going to rain tomorrow and the day after.
