India (96/2) trail by 242 runs at Stumps on Day 2 of the 3rd Test against Australia

Congrats India! That’s the highest first wicket partnership in this series. The highest partnership till date was 16 with an average of 7 in four innings.

Apart from his first 10 balls in international cricket; Shubham Gill has looked a million dollars!

Damn Prithvi Shaw was getting all the hype for past 2 years but this guy is the real deal.

Short ball or length ball pak cant play anything. Comparing India with Pak makes no sense nowadays

It's the poor bowling which cost Pakistan.

If you see the scorecards Pak batsman batted decently (infact better than Ind in Eng/NZ) but the bowlers never turned up.

Gill is the next great Indian batsman...much better than that overhyped Shaw.

All players can look like the real deal in the first few years, the real challenge is to be consistent and maintain world class performances, standards over a long period of time ie Kohli.

Prithwi Shaw looked tremendous early on but because of poor fitness, enjoying the life and opposition teams exploiting his weaknessess, he has fallen behind in the pecking order

Rohit playing an ODI here. I hope he shuts those fans who thought his absence was a blessing in disguise. :inti

India are spoiled for choices when it comes to batsman, send one or two over the border please. :haider

NZ served much better wickets to Pak than what they did to India .
In England Shan Masood took 2-3 lives to score 150. Other than that only Azhar Ali scored an inconsequential hundred on a dead track

Imagine Rahit; Gill, Pujara, Rahane, Kohli with Jadeja and Pant; with the same bowling unit. It can take on the world in six months in tests.

India needs to soon travel to NZ and Eng to ‘hisaab barabar’, hopefully 6 months before Kohli’s second baby.

India will always look good in SA and Aus with a full strength team and shaky in Eng/NZ. Maybe Bhuvi might make a difference, but he hasn't played in such a long time, not sure what are his abilities now.

Look at body language of Gill man . So confident. Already earned heaps of money and with financial security comes freedom. No fear of losing place in the side unlike Pak cricketers. Even going back to the domestic means he would still earn big

Naa for England the pace bowling unit has to be Bumrah, Shami/Bhuvaneshwar, Yadav/Siraj

What a tame pitch! No wonder Smith got going today after his horrendous last year

You can see why Rohit polarizes fans. At least used to, until his ODI doubles. The way he walks back to the dressing room - looks bored and as if he couldn't care less being at the ground :))

Aussies bowling looking harmless on this surface

Because it is harmless or at least similar. Barring the odd highlight reel worthy delivery, on most of the flat tracks with higher but even bounce, they actually get wickets due to batsmen playing a shot too many or caving in to pressure.

Pick up a highlights package of say PAK or IND touring AUS vs touring ENG or NZD. You won’t see elaborate movement or even extravagant bounce on a regular occasion.

The AUS bowlers, especially Hazlewood and Cummins, will keep bowling a hard length and hope for it to do something or the batsman to misjudge. But it will not be accentuated movement, bounce or even consistently express pace.

It depends on the person and could work the other way. The same security could douse the fire.

I sometimes feel KL Rahul will be happy just playing the IPL :rabada2

Just watch Rohit's coming few final years of test cricket.

Just like Kallis and Sangakkara, he will remedy his stats overseas :rabada2

Rohit looks comfortable.
Hoping that he has worked on his batting against lateral movement.
He is Immensely talented and can help strengthen India if he improves his batting against swing

In a wierd way the rain has probably eliminated the chance of an Australian defeat here i think.

Probably Only two results likely.

Enough time for India to win if that happens. India can bat till 4th day lunch and score 450. Australia can bat till 5th day tea time and get all out for 200. India will have enough time to score winning runs.

Just a scenario.

Australia will be kicking themselves from 206 -3 they didn't manage to put around 450

Wickets will come. The Roller effect will disappear.

Did he win the world cup? Oh no he did not.He can score runs on those flat tracks in Odis but everybody knows he is a FTB HTB in real cricket

I am pretty sure most of Pakistan players will not mind having the FTB HTB qualities of Rohit. Because recently NZ cricketers were scoring 200s Pakistan players were celebrating by scoring 50s

Don't LOL at me now, but watching Gill closely for the first time, i feel the way he lines up and plays the short ball reminded me of Misbah. And the rest of his game is more like Sehwag but with a better front foot defense.

Steyn wasn't there, but you are aware right, what he did to SA when he opened in test cricket for the first time?

In true HTB style :smith

Na bro it was steyn in SA. Rohit said come to India we'll see in reply to which steyn reminded him of the 7 wickets he took at Nagpur

I'm pleasantly surprised by rohit.
Both openers are playing proper test match cricket

Yeah I know. Was telling that poster that Rohit remained true to his words when SA came over (minus Steyn) to India couple years back and Rohit opened for the first time in tests

All said, what we are watching is a real world class modern test match - perfectly balanced between two top teams in a top-tier ground with great crowd. Both team fighting it out. Many of these batsmen from both sides, who didn’t do so well against in this series, will get easy centuries against smaller teams.

Irrespective of the result, it’s good to see a great test once again.

Na bro not the case. 5-6 years Rohit took to cement his place in national side. We have babar azam who in 4-5 years is already rated one of the current best by every1

So PCT LOI teams doesnt require Rohit is what you are saying ?

Which also means guys like Shaw, Chand, Ishan Kishan dont work hard for INTL , its a double edged sword , end of the day it will always be about will to be better InTL player

Not at all. No one can deny rohit is a top player. That poster said pak can only dream of having a player like Rohit and I said Babar could be the one. 4-5 yrs in international cricket and he's better than what rohit was at this stage

Just noticed that Gill doesn't defend in front of his body, he is always beside the ball rather than behind. Something that purists won't like

Fair point

It’s funny to see that AUS conceded first in the battle of wits by rushing in a half baked David Warner.

Would personally say 1-0 to IND in inducing this error from AUS.

Had the gamble paid off they may have gotten away with it, but given his grimacing while running and apparent weariness seems like they felt under extreme pressure to fix the top order.

Given the frailty of their middle order (Wade, Green and Paine) they needed this gamble to come good. With it having turned on its head, they have ended up carrying more passengers than what they had gambled.

If IND do not have soft dismissals like AUS did, they should be in the driving seat. Short of some miraculous spells, cannot see how AUS can wrest control in these conditions much like how IND would have struggled had AUS not imploded.

Indian opening batsmen slot is probably the world’s most difficult to get position with dozens of good contenders . You have role models like Gavaskar, Tendulkar and Sehwag, not counting Gambhir.

It’s currently a toss up between Gill, Mayank, Rohit, Prithvi, Rahul. It should settle down in 6-12 months.

Right now, PCT would love a Sharma.

People on PP though seem to be quite young and perhaps did not follow cricket much even as close as the turn of the decade.

Anyone on this thread remember the days when “No Hit” Sharma used to trend? Or back when Ishant’s name used to be synonymous with letting the pressure off and free flowing run scoring?

Had India not persisted with Rohit (and if I am not mistaken it was not about a few matches here or there, it was a few years) a very Indian LOI top order could be playing today.

Showing Ravi Shastri, the current water boy, hitting 206 in Sydney 1991-92, smashing Aussi bowlers all round the park, the only double century made by Indian test batsmen till date.

Rohit has a very Sehwag like Lazyness ,absolute detest his attitude towards test cricket.
