In a similar vein, there is often a tendency to call a bowler unlucky when he keeps missing the edge or the lbw decision. Like Amir in Brisbane (?) or Umesh today.

There is good unlucky and bad unlucky.

Ishant is unlucky cos he doesn't pitch it too full so he gets the oohs and aahs but not wickets. When he pitches it full, he doesn't get those almost dismissals but he gets out batsmen.

Amir (recently) and Ishant are examples of bad unlucky (leaving aside the drop catches off Amir where he was genuinely unlucky). Sometimes Umesh is also in the same category due to lack of consistency.

Then there are times when bowlers bowl their heart out and are unlucky. Like Umesh in Rajkot when he deserved a fifer.

Rule of thumb: If you are ALWAYS unlucky game after game...series after series, its not ill luck. Its you.

Basically we are comparing apples and oranges. There are more dynamics to consider while bowling.
