India choking in ICC tournaments for the last 10 years

Which one in your opinion is a curse for the Indian team?

India struggle for the big occasion in general.

Vegetarian diets decrease testosterone and this can reduce the ability to handle pressure.

On top of that we forget how bad India were in the past. This is not a country that is used to winning anything. I don’t think this will change any time soon.

During the last 10 years, India has always choked in the Knock out stages of every ICC tournament they have played.

2014 World T20 - Lost the final to Sri Lanka
2015 World Cup - Lost the semi finals to Australia
2016 World T20 - Lost the semi finals to West Indies
2017 Champions Trophy - Lost the final to Pakistan
2019 World Cup - Lost semi finals to New Zealand
2021 World Test Championship - Lost final to New Zealand
2022 World T20 - Lost the semi finals to England
2023 World Test Championship - Lost final to Australia

And Now:

2023 World Cup - Lost the final to Australia (Even though India were undefeated during the whole tournament).

India has lost to 6 different oppositions din ICC tournaments during the last 10 years

Its amusing that Pakistan hasn't been to the WC final in 23 years.

Have been to one semis in 23 year and pakistanis have the gall to mock India.
We don’t get mauled like this in whatever finals we do make.

You got embarrassed in the T20WC in the semi-finals, and infront of the whole world in yet another crucial game.

The batting lineup always had its kinks. They were being bailed out by Rohit and Kohli. Today the bill came due. And can't take credit from Australia who bowled phenomenally well.

You don't even make the finals.

Last time you did was in 1999 and got bowled out for 132.

That's mauling.

Australians are mentally strong because of the sports upbringing they have. Also for Australia to win the pressure isn’t as much as it is for a country like India or even Pakistan to win.

Indian team just can’t handle that pressure in big finals and choke. It’s not easy, cricket is different in India compared to western countries. The pressure can’t be compared.

No, this is mauling.

Might aswell not play finals if you are going to get brutalized like this.

I thought England’s destruction last year was bad, this is just insulting getting bashed senseless infront of your home crowd.

New Zealand in 2019.

England in 2022.

Australia tonight.

You are losing to pretty much everyone.

Flawed team. Only the top 5 can bat. They contribute nothing with the ball.

The bottom 5 can only bowl. They contribute nothing with the bat.

You cannot win when players are one trick horses. You need multiple players who can excel in more than one discipline. Not bits and pieces players. Australia has Maxwell, Head and Marsh. India has none.

In the group stages and until semis, the Top 4 of India were scoring big. India did not have to bat more than 5 players at the top. The same issue that has been biting India since 2014. The All rounder issues have been plaguing India for almost a decade now. Loss of Pandya has hurt India big today.

Also, Australia played exactly the same way they played in this Tournament. India played so poorly in the finals. They had no idea as to what score to set. Once India were 3 down, they literally shut the shop down. There was no effort to even score singles. KL Rahul's and Kohli's innings shows how much they played defensive. We cannot blame them either. They knew that once India will be 5 down, its game over them.

Congrats Australia. Though India has top 5 more talented players with the bat, its the team with more balance has won. Aus deserves to win the tournament.

Would rather be in India position making finals and then missing out compared to Pakistan who rely on rain to progress

Interesting take on it. Maybe they should reconsider the ban on halal meat in UP.

Just can’t handle pressure of big matches. It is what it is, maybe the next generation will be better in handling pressure than this current one.

You have to see the progress from being garbage for most part of 90s to being able to compete in 2000s to being consistently reaching semis/finals in 2010s and above.

Indian cricket and mentality is slowly improving, the next generation should take it to the next level and start winning trophies.

The progress should have been much faster but we will reach there eventually.

Atleast they should had won at their home, last the last two world cup winners......

Australia will always be the greatest cricketing team.

Some Indian fans were saying there team is of the level of Pontings Australia.

10 years wait for an ICC trophy continues for India.

I can stand Indian team winning, but cannot stand indian fans rejoicing. Although I wanted anyone to win but Australia, I will take this. Anything that keeps obnoxious indian fans from being happy.

I know there'll be some cross border needling which is fine, but let's avoid below the belt comments.

What I was surprised by, and this was something I said to @Nikhil_cric in the preview thread, was that I never saw India bat with such sustained aggression as they had in this World Cup.

Today, apart from Rohit's opening salvo, they went back into their conservative mindset with Rahul's innings being particularly poor. Yes it wasn't easy on a slow pitch and AUS's planning/execution was superb. But 240 was always below par.

Rohit's defensive captaincy also surprised me. At 90-3 and the dew imminent, you had to attack. Instead field was spread and AUS milked easy singles. Twice the ball was edged through vacant slip.

Meanwhile Dhoni in 2011 and 2013 led his team to victory with arguably weaker bowling resources at his disposal.

Nothing to do with mentality.

Between 2007 and 2013 we won 3 ICC trophies. Because the captain was tactically very good.

Today Australia was tactically far superior. Appreciate their tactical brilliance.

Good to see my jinx was successful in the innings break! Pathetic bottlejob in the final. Funny to see the unsporting crowd silenced! Bye India!

We actually managed to win a trophy in the last 10 years. What Fakhar Zaman did to your team in the 2017 CT Final is worth more than all of Kohli’s meaningless 50 centuries in group stages and meaningless bilateral series.

Painful but it is what it is, Aussies don’t even care and look at them won T20, WTC and now this lol.

Aussies are just mentally next level and deserve this.

I doubt any cricketing fan would be happy to see this anymore, this is just sad now.

India keeps getting destroyed in knockouts. Its a pattern, nothing to do with Pakistan buddy.
Agreed.

India had every advantage in this tournament but even they didn’t feel confident enough - hence they resorted to cheating on top.

India are definitely the new chokers because nobody should lose after all that.

We also won a trophy in 2013? So?

Kohli will go down in history as one of the ATGs. Fakhar will be only on pakistani forums.

India says to South Africa, please hold my chai as the kings of chokers lol

All the hype and non-cricket motivated drama, India was sunk at home comprehensively in a one-sided match in front of home crowds and who is who of the Indian intelligentsia.

Indian fans won’t forget this humiliation for generations.

Great scenes really. Absolutely loved it.

They are far superior to any team tactically.

No one comes close.

That’s cope. People will look back and wonder how anyone ever compared a batsmen who played for personal milestones and failed in all knockouts to the greats like Vivian Richards.

Your team should have uplifted Rohit in Kohli’s place. At least Rohit doesn’t go running away to hide when it matters most.

I applaud your efforts to maintain balance, but Indians have singlehandedly tried to damage Pakistan cricket for the past 10-15 years. Even as a neutral Brit I can understand why Pakistanis might not be wellwishers of the current India set up.

Nothing to cope.

Australia were tactically far superior. Everyone said win toss bat first.

Aussies won the toss batted second because they had a strategy in place.

We were outmaneuvered.

Kudos to Australia for winning the WC.

It was a choke.

Why is it painful? Does indian team winning boosts your self esteem? I used to be like that when I had nothing in my life.

It’s not a resources argument, there is a reason why Saffers win Rugby as well, they are just ahead as a sporting nation.

I doubt many Aussies were even watching the WC.

If any Desi team had won T20,WC, WTC we would be calling them all time greats and in Aus no one would care lol.

It’s same situation in hockey too.

lol, you won an ICC trophy in 2013.

We won it in 2017 by again defeating you guys. You guys have lost to 6 different teams/

We dont care where Kohli goes down, the thing is he hasnt been able to hold an icc trophy for the last 10 years. FAKHAR HAS

I can't figure out Rahul's innings here. Was it really that tough against Aussie bowling? Kohli couldn't hit boundaries but he was able to take singles why couldn't Rahul? I think that's where India lost the game. It was a phenomenal campaign but Australia bowled and fielded incredibly.

It would be an insult to Australia to say India choked. Aussies just outplayed India in all departments.

Official chokers. Played well for sure but selected grounds and pitches perfectly throughout the tournament 🤣

It’s not the same as 2003 but it still makes me sad maybe not painful, painful maybe coz all the trolling we will be subjected to now lol(we deserve it).

Lol. By your definition Lara ABDV are lesser players than Fakhar Zaman.

With such thinking no wonder your team hasn't made a World Cup final in 23 years

India played in all the grounds that were part of the world cup. U new?

Celebrating your 2nd place trophy is exactly why you manage to win nothing.

We made it to the finals of the T20 WC last year and we all consider it a massive failure and even fired our T20 WC captain. It’s either 1st or last.

You guys can't lose because you don't even reach knockouts.

This is like Papua New Guinea mocking Pakistanis because Pakistan has played in 6 WCs in last 23 years and hasn't reached the final once.

Before the World Cup, I pointed out that India might struggle in the knockout stage under Rohit Sharma's captaincy because he's past his prime and hasn't been lucky, as seen in recent IPL final losses. I believed Virat Kohli would have been a better captain choice. Unfortunately, India's long tail and the decision to include Suryakumar Yadav played a part in their loss in the World Cup final

I guess it's now back to promoting the biggest league in the world the indian pyjama league .

Hey, we won an ICC tournament in 2017..

Ok, we are PNG. Even than you couldnt beat us in 2017 or havent been able able to beat anyone in the last 10 years to get an ICC trophy.

This Indian team is full of chokers backed by a cocky BCCI who don't care about the game. So all these losses couldn't have happened to a better team. Maybe cheat / tamper more pitches next WC in India

Dhoni didn't face a string Aussie team. They were in transition.

This is a strong Aussie team in both the batting and the bowling.

Told you earlier that these are the 2 teams with the best predictors.

Hard to show sustained aggression on that pitch during the day.

Once thr ball started skidding on under lights, our goose was cooked

Need a lot of luck to beat this Aussie side full of greats in white ball and red ball

There is absolutely nothing India could have done. Nothing.

Babar Azam was your captain till last week.

What are you on about?

We have won more ICC trophies than Pakistan.

This is NOT a strong Aussie Team. This is the weakest Aussie team I've seen since 1992.

You guys may descend to PNG level if fans are going to find satisfaction in others losses, because their team cannot win.
