India close Day 5 of the WTC final at 2/64, leading New Zealand by 32 runs

The problem with the match scenario is that India have everything to lose and nothing to gain at this moment.

Bowl out NZ for 220, NZ have the chance to skittle India for a very low score and chase it down. They have about one and half days to do that.

India bat badly, they lose the test. India bat well, they still don't have enough time to win in the last day. If there had been an extra day, India would have a day to bat and day and half to bowl out the kiwis. But with just one day remaining, India have little chance to win the match. But the kiwis if their bowlers are on fire, India could be bundled under 100 and chased down.

Jamieson is the dangerman. This match has been awful because of the rain, it looks like a gully game where kids go back home and come back when the rain is gone, only that it rains way more than you'd expect.

Didn't you guys lose 2-0 in NZ? India has been impressive here but why are you pretending like that series didn't happen lol?

NZ would get swept in India while India got swept in NZ.

I'm talking about neutral venues.

That's why the mention of Dubai, Dhaka and not Delhi. Catch the drift...

New Zealand ought to have toured the subcontinent more than once this WTC cycle to compensate for how many home series they got.
Yeah, they made the finals on the basis of their home dominance, nothing else.

Fair enough but I think NZ would hold there own in somewhere like Dubai too. They would probably lose but there batting is strong enough to at least push for a draw even in those conditions.

I don't like the concept of sharing the trophy, especially when one team didn't really deserve to be in the final.

He's out of form, yes, but he is comfortably better than our "talented" quicks.

At least he isn't going at 5RPO like our supremely talented Naseem Shah.

He is not out of form.He is not skillful. He doesn't swing the ball at all.I don't understand why is he so overhyped

Regardless of what the stat sheet says, this has been an awful bowling performance. :(

If not for Shami, it would have gotten real ugly.

Sharing the trophy after contesting for it for 2 years speaks volumes about ICC's incompetence.

This game also tells us not to play 2 spinners in a test that's being played in England.

But then Kohli is too thick to get that.

Bumrah should hang his head in shame. All those 4 overs he religiously bowls for Ambanis in IPL every year won't prepare him for test cricket.

India are missing Pandya as mentioned by the commies here.

Williamson has batted magnificently today and delivering for his team in big match.

Watching Kohli celebrate after a wicket is a real put off, yelling and screaming like he won the match....

Rahane needs to take over as captain for good, let Kohli be just the batsmen, drop Pujara for good and groom Wash the batsmen who can learn from Ashwin in regards to off spin..

It pains me no end to see how pathetic our lower order batting is as compared to other test playing nations.

The decision to play two spinners looking more horrendous by the hour.

Its hindight imho.

They contribute with bat and no one expected our pacers to suck so much.

Its easy to bring a 4th seamer but remove the spinners contribution with the bat and you are looking at an even lower first innings score.

No guarantee vihari would have scored more runs either.

Only siraj decision was wrong imho.

That too hr mostly would have replaced ishamt or shami.

So all in all.....its a mess.

Cant blame kohli for this and i am no huge fan of his captaincy.

Ishant and Shami have bowled to type, doubt one can expect more from them. Bumrah has been woeful, which is unexpected.

Ashwin and jaddu are playing as AR.

One batting AR.

One bowling AR.

I think if India bats well, they will come into play.

Not 4th seamer but 6th batsman especially considering how woeful our batting is for few years now.

I'd have picked Siraj instead of Jadeja after the first day's play was abandoned. The decision to select two spinners here is similar to what happened at Lord's in 2018.

These two teams are the best in the world because of their bowling attacks. Not even a single weak link in both bowling attacks.

India have done really well considering they did not have any match practice prior to this game whereas NZ had 2 games

Ashwin's stats look really good in this match
Will help with the ATG argument. :yk

Their tailenders have done the job for them. I said it, that is actually our problem. We ran through their top order but the tail has brought them back in control.

The tail would be long.

India would have collapsed for 180 and people would call you dumb.

Thats how tough this games selection was.

Look at Ashwin. In these conditions and on this wicket, he's going at less than 2 RPO and also gotten 2 wickets. Pakistan really needs to find a spinner of his quality who can do the job on all kinds of wickets. Yasir Shah would've gone at 4 RPO and not taken any wicket here.

It's ok, even though they have the lead, we are ahead coz they need to bat in the 4th innings. But yeah draw is looking inevitable.

Hopefully, we do not collapse in 3rd inning. Can't afford to get bowled out under 170.

India has bowled well here , lead is only 25 runs , which is not much and just one wicket in hand

But there is possibility that we will collapse by playing fast to force result and they could capitalise it and can chase easily if they get under 100 target

This works when they are batting fully on final day. Here both the teams will be batting on final day. So, same challenge basically.

Dont disagree

But In the place of who?

Jadeja obviously... we saw today ishant and shami getting tired today due to prolonged spells and the reason why NZ got the lead. Shardul would have provided them the important rest while also being threatening. He can bat too

The mental aspect is what makes the difference, chasing is way difficult than putting up a score.

Fair enough.

That can work.

Just that if he had flopped with the bat, qe would have been weak.

And jaddu has been averagimg nearly 60 last 2 years...

But yeah a very feasible solution overall tho.

India need to bat well in 3rd inning. Bat three sessions and put 200+ runs on board, no hurry.

Said this when IND took to the field. Pant’s keeping and IND’s slips cordon will be under a lot of focus.

This and the delta between the number of runs scored by Ishant, Jasprit and Mohammad vs those scored by Tim, Trent and Neil may play a big role if it continues to be a low scoring affair.

IND have held their own in the field and taken some spectacular catches not to mention the ground fielding which has kept NZD in check.

The delta between the tailenders’ runs did come to the fore. IND would want to knock off the lead with their openers quickly.
