What's new

India end Day 1 of the 2nd Test on 36/1 after bowling out Australia for 195

I think getting past 37 is our target in this inning. Send Pant in next so he can hit some quick IPL style boundaries and give these batsman some mental peace. :inti

Wow....this is just hostile pace bowling. 195 that Aussies scored is now looking like 350 here.

Tricky situation is they get to go at full tilt for 10-15 overs today and then tomorrow can restart fully recharged.

Our technique is so bad that it makes everything look 10X better.

Gill got beaten on a delivery he should have left alone.

Now he scores a 4.

Maybe 18 a/o (half of that)

And every time there is a batting collapse, Kohli and Shastri come up with - we will show more intent and force guys like Pujara to play aggresively (that inning in NZ where Pujara and Vihari came out swinging their bats and got out caught in the deep being a case in point).

Yes. This is why need a proper coach and some solid data analytics to provide input as to what works and what doesnt. Funnily enough I didnt see much aggression in first 10 overs of an ODI where it's actually required and we are the slowest in that phase. Not sure why theres a need for this aggression in test cricket when it's actually brainless batting.

36/10 now atleast mamoon will agree India was all out not 36/9 what a pathetic sour guy oh lord

Dropped!

Every ball looks like it's going to be a wicket.

Worrying signs.

Good first scoring shot in his career

Now he tried to flick a ball that shouldn't have been flicked.

Edge put down.

This is really really bad batting against some discplined high quality bowling.

You can get any data in this internet age even from domestics. I am pretty there are enough videos of Agarwal’s Ranji batting was out there for Aussies to review last time.
He is going through a rough patch now but so did most of Indian openers in SENA. And I don’t think we have any replacement for him waiting in the wings. He made into the team after scoring consistently in Ranjis and A tours for years and Indian TM wouldn’t want to waste that.

They most likely didn’t take him seriously back then

Its all in the mind.

If a jaffa gets you, no worries.

But to play wrong shots and getting out should be avoided.

You need to score runs, that's still the best way to put pressure on opposition in any format on any pitch!

Funny thing is Hazelwood is considered slower compared to these but even he is 140kph types

And both Cummins and Hazlewood are tall dont bowl too full either. So they hit the bat harder than the speed gun suggests. Cummins in particular just thuds into the bat. And he can do that all day. Dude is a machine.

That’s never the way Australians do it. I am pretty sure every professional team these days do plenty of homework on every player on the opposition.
Like I said, Agarwal is in the team after consistent performances over the years in FC. He would get his fair share of chances for that.

The only way is to play out as many overs as possible and tire out this attack. Easier said than done but that's how pujara helped India win the series last time. By the 4th test , the Australian quicks were slower and less menacing. But give them enough rest and they'll thunder in even during the last innings of the series.

Gill has the shots but hes been dropped and the ball has just avoided the edge the other third of the deliveries he's faced.

But also not just block. I think once you score off them they lose the pressure and try new things / lose the fire. They seem a very momentum based attack.

Better to go down swinging than just wait for them to get you.

Exactly this. Amazing how motivated they look in every match despite our batsmen ruining their efforts with utmost precision time and time again.

Absolutely...it's crazy really.

If our bats don't pull up the socks, they are eventually going to give up too.

All we need to do is weather a 30 min session...and things will get easier.

But no....we gotta play all those wrong shots and get out. lol.

I saw Mayank's batting.

Even gully cricketers would have a better technique.

What happened to him? lol.

The right answer is often the boring answer.

The amount of Indians in social media misreading the situation is hilarious.

We wont even chase 100 runs in 4th innings. So India need to go big on this very innings if they want to win this test.

How do Indian posters rate Vihari as a batsman?

Of course, we gotta be positive. Goes without saying.

But this is the time to respect the opposition and give them that half hour.

Today and tom morning.

Then you take back everything with interest. lol.

It depends . Even last series the run rates were very low in the beginning of the innings I think in the 3rd test. It was only in the 3rd spells with an older bowl did India pick up the scoring. To be fair though, Hazlewood and Starc are bowling a lot better than they did that season. I'm not sure what can be done lol. India should just look to survive as ling as possible.

Cant blame them . Our own captain and coach think aggression is all about coming forward and attacking world class bowlers contrary to what the best performing batsmen are actually doing. To quote Mamoon , we deserve this humiliation .

haha....

people soo don't understand aggression.

Rahane is a super aggressive captain.

Gill showing heart. Most batsmen would go into a shell

Gill with boundaries all over the ground already.

People shouldn’t make such a big deal of the Gill play and misses. Lot of great innings have had that. What matters is how he goes from here and the shots he is playing are shots he is in total control of and not streaky edges

Gill has ridiculous shots in his arsenal.

Ideallly he should bat at 4 or 5 when ball gets older and man o man...it will be fun.

You don't want someone like him getting out to a freak crazy good new ball.

But sadly there isn't any spot for him in middle order.

I'd love to see Gill score some good runs in this innings. Hope he lives up to the hype. Good luck, kid!

Absolutely.

Look at the analysis of Argawals technique

It’s a shocker...

Can’t believe how long Kohli has kept Gill out of the side

It’s a crime that Vihari plays ahead of him.

Can’t believe how long Kohli has kept Gill out of the side

He called him an amazing talent at 19.

Said even he wasn't as good in 19.

Then promptly dropped him from ODIs and never picked him again. :))

Gill is slowly gaining confidence, footwork has improved as he has gotten used to the pace of the pitch. Some of these shots are an absolute delight.

It was fine the last time he was in Australia - his debut.

Who on earth asked him to do that change.

What happened to the magical pitch and unplayable bowling :))

It's all about spending time in the crease.

Get a new bat in and the pitch and bowling will get unplayable again.

It's all about the basics.

Not surprised at the ** PR talk from Kohli as usual...
Says great things about Rohit but does everything possible to play every match even when he’s supposed to be rested so that Rohit does not get a chance perform well captaining.
