India end Day 1 of the 2nd Test on 36/1 after bowling out Australia for 195

This is the best attack I have seen Aus have since 2000s, they need to get their batting in line better though even if Smith is ATG

As usual the showpiece umpire on the field can't pick it up and the 3rd umpire has to tell him.

And even he needs a TV for it.

He didnt come out of nowhere unless you think IPL is the place to recruit Test cricketers. He had the highest FC average at the time of his debut in 2018 and was coming off from some impressive performances.
He has done decently in my opinion till now considering most of his matches were played in SENA where Indians usually struggled. Indian fans have short memories and they forget how even the likes of Kohli struggled in their initial matches.
 
Gill impressive so far. Not an easy period to bat. Couple nice shots but also knows to leave and not get carried away trying to win the game in 5 minutes.

India's basis of victories in the Australia is all due to their bowling. They get 20 wickets time after time.

Much to learn from the likes of Siraj, Chahar who Pakistani fans here love to bash. The fact is that these Sirajs and Chahars are miles better than any bowler in Pakistan.

I agree. There's a reason why this kid has been hyped up so much even before his debut in international cricket. I still have hopes from Shaw. He might have had one bad Test, but Indian players are not hyped up so much until they are really special. And I do believe that Shaw is special. He might take his time, but I believe that he will come good.
 
Here lies the difference between Gill and Shaw. Both are extremely talented, but Gill looks to have a good head on his shoulders.
 
The downside for India is that Australia get to go fully recharged again tomm.

To blunt this attack India needs to tire them out by playing insanely long innings and giving short breaks in between the innings like they managed to do in 2018.

Shaw will end up like Rohit Sharma; he will be a decent ODI player, but he is not cut out for test. Kambli was much more talented than Tendulkar, but did not achieve big because he did nit have the right mindset.

Shaw is insanely talented. He has Tendulkar and Lara level gift. However, he is a big overconfident these days and thinks he can smash anyone any time. With time, he will mature and learn. BCCI knows how gifted he is and they will not let him go to waste just like they didn’t let Rohit waste.

Gill is less talented (but very talented in his own right) but his composure and mental maturity are well beyond his years.

In terms of raw ability, Gill is Kohli level while Shaw is Tendulkar and Rohit level.
 
Both Gill and Siraj looked the part on debut. But Musa, Naseem and Abid are raw talents to take the cricket world by storm.

It’s amazing how some international cricketers are so unfit. I work with lot of D1 level athletes and it’s amazing how much time they put into strength and conditioning every week, even during off season.
 
Australia's batting looks so weak on paper and even worse on the field. Burns guranantees a good start for the opposition bowlers and puts all the other batsmen under pressure. Worse still, there is not really much talent in Australian domestic cricket at the moment, with bat or ball.

Karun Nair !!!. Lol!!

People who watch little bit of first class cricket know how average a cricketer he is. Decent for Ranji but absolutely nowhere near to international class. That 300 against England will be one of the biggest flukes of all time, he can't be considered good enough just because he took his chances against a very average English attack who were completely out of breath on a placid pitch.

Sports culture in US is a different beast compared to cricketing world. The kind of athletes they churn out is mind blowing.

That is a joke and a bloody myth. Nobody was more talented than Tendulkar.

Shaw's problem is attitude, not lack of talent. He seems to be very arrogant and rigid about how he goes about his game. He thinks he can bat like Sehwag but thinking and actually doing it is the difference between Sehwag and many others. On top of it his fitness is a real concern and reports so far says that he does not give a damn to that aspect of the game. The only reason why he still gets so many chances is because he is from Mumbai, had he been from other states he would have been sent back for 2 yrs to domestic.
 
An excellent bowling display from India, particularly Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin, saw Australia bundled out for 195 on day one of the second Test. The visitors ended the day at 36/1, trailing by 159 runs.

Bumrah and Ashwin claimed seven wickets between them, as no batsman from Australia managed to cross the 50-run mark. Marnus Labuschagne came the closest with a 132-ball 48, but the rest of the hosts' lineup struggled against India's skillful and disciplined bowling display.

Electing to bowl first, Australia did not have the best of starts at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Joe Burns could not follow up on his unbeaten 51 from the first game, falling after playing out nine dot balls. Matthew Wade, his opening partner, had a slightly better day.

Batting on his 33rd birthday, Wade put on 30 runs before falling to Ashwin in the 13th over. The off-spinner looked in supreme touch then, dismissing the dangerous Steve Smith for a duck in his next over. Ashwin has now dismissed the No.1 batsman in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Rankings five times in 20 innings.

Labuschagne and Travis Head then did well to mitigate the early fall of wickets, guiding the hosts from 38/3 to 124/3. Labuschagne displayed heaps of resistance, navigating through blows on the helmet, rippers from the pacers and DRS calls. Head, too, fought quite a bit in his 92-ball 38, before Bumrah finally broke the 86-run stand.

The moment of the game for Test debutant Mohammad Siraj came two overs before lunch. He claimed his maiden Test wicket in the 50th over, and it was a big one – Labuschagne flicked one to backward square leg to Shubman Gill, who did well to hold on to a low catch.

Australia offered little to no resistance after tea, as three wickets fell for nine runs. Tim Paine and Cameron Green both fell with the scoreboard on 155, before Starc was dismissed by Bumrah for seven.

Nathan Lyon offered a little entertainment – and important runs for Australia – at No.10, hitting two fours and a six before falling to Bumrah for a 17-ball 20.

India played out 11 overs to end the day, with Shubman Gill (28*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (7*) in the middle. Australia managed to pull one back with the early wicket of Mayank Agarwal, who was dismissed by Mitchell Starc in the first over of the innings for a duck.

Our bowlers have been mostly consistent these days, will reserve my comment untill we cross 100 tomorrow.
 
I just can't feel optimistic anymore even if we're "placed" in a pretty good position.

This Aussie attack is just out of the world. There's no way we're taking a first innings lead tomorrow. This is the last 'good' pair and one wicket tomorrow morning and the procession will likely start again. Rahane, Vihari, Pant, Jadeja.....don't think they inspire any sort of confidence.

My bet is we'll start okay but one wicket will open the gates and we'll be bowled out for 120-130. Glad if I get proven wrong.

Shaw just has to tighten his defense against inswing.He can be Sehwagesque

If it works out as per what you have stated, it would be amazing. I hope Pakistan will also unearth talented and world class batsmen in the future, wishing Pakistan well and hope you guys win the NZ test series.

The Indian batting coming up on Day 2 is going to be the biggest challenge to overcome the mental block that their batsmen are in when they last batted and could only manage 36 runs

If India could build a substantial lead of over 100 then I believe the scars of getting out on 36 will be almost completely healed

Day 2 is going to be very crucial for Indian batsmen to make themselves believe and build self-confidence in their minds that they are over the 36 all out mental block

He's always been good in IPL and LOIs. Fails in overseas Tests

Maybe could have replaced Vihari in middle order,but Vihari deserves fair rope too.Rahul already got lot of backing in 2018-19
 
Well done India but it feels very weird that your bowling is now your stronger suit. I have more confidence in Pakistan batsmen than India’s batsmen. Hearing good things about Gill, will try and catch him tomorrow morning.
 
Indian bowlers did a brilliant job. It's now upto the batters to get a sizeable lead.
 
Mayank is playing like he is in IPl or odi mode. He needs to change his stance. It's fixable. He is still a good player. Nerves. He did so well in 2018.

Give him the full series. Doesn't matter if he flops. He just needs work his stance and backlift.

Same issue with Shaw. It's fixable.

No. Sehwag's bat used to be straight when defending which not much gap.Shaw's comes down in circular motion leaving lot of gap

In terms of striking ability he can be Sehwag like

India need to dig in and look try and get a big lead and bat all day 2. There should be no need to try and rush things with bat tomorrow.
