What's new

India v England | 2nd Test | Visakhapatnam | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 2

Hopefully England have a better day than they did first up at Visakhapatnam.

Kohli looking fine.

Ashwin looking good 90% of the time while lulloing with unnecessary shots 10% of the time.

Also commies found a weakness where he camps on the backfoot a touch too much which prevent him from getting fully forward resulting in ball popping towards gully.

Cook isn't even trying that mode of dismissal.

Hopefully England can tighten the noose and get them for under 400 here.

Moeen Ali just bowling normally yet Indians are lulloing so much.

Like 3-4 beatens on a trott. :))

That too for a ball that didn't even turn.

Must have a mental issue vs him.

As in not being able to play like the way a good batsman would play a part time spinner.

Must have a mental issue vs him.

Don't think so in this tour.

We played Ali very well uptil now. Kohli was the first wicket this series he actually earned.

His natural variation (I guess) got us confused. The one where ball hits the pitch and just goes straight on.

That's good bowling then.

Yes...he has bowled well today.

If he develops flight, he can be much better cos he can drift the ball generally.

He keeps it too flat and depends on pitch or natural variation or mistakes to get wickets. Hence doesn't find much success.

Lots of spinners with flatter trajectories can succeed on SC pitches though. If he gets to bowl on a true turning pitch this series, he'll pick up loads of wickets.

Still 29 - so as a spinner he can probably improve.

The issue is probably how much - as England would want someone that can win them games when the track is turning if Moeen can do that later on then he's worth keeping but atm he's still not good enough to turn the match with his bowling.

How is the pitch, haven't watched any Cricket lately ?

Doesn't look tough to bat.

Will only know when Indian spinners bowl.

Rajkot also had some balls doing stuff but if you kept that out, it was an easy track to bat.

This one will be tougher than that but for now, I don't see anything unplayable which is why England have done VERY VERY well today morning.

Some sharp spin their.....Bad bad sign for eng

lol no.

In today's era, it takes one ball to turn to make it a tough pitch.

The next few balls didn't turn.

Even Rajkot had a couple turning big.

Means nothing if the ball isn't consistently turning.

Its Indians who are lullooing.

India 363/7 (104.4 ov)
Ravichandran Ashwin (rhb) 23*

Some balls have turned, but still looks a beauty. Might want to wait for bth teams to bat before judging it.

Going by the fall of wickets, 3 already so far this morning it looks like the pitch has deteriorated from yesterday.

No yaar.

Watch replay and you will understand.

Just bad batting.

Saha didn't even attempt a shot once the ball turned after pitching a bit short.

Jaddu was not out.

You look at the balls defended by Jayant and Ash. No problems whatsoever.

Not watching yet, but might do later.

What I meant is that the score yesterday was 317 - 4 and for today it is 3 wickets for 50 odd. Clearly something has changed.

If it's just bad batting then fair enough.

Brother Jeet defying Pakistan in New Zealand while brother Moeen defying India in India.:amla

Yeah.....Pujara, Vijay and Kohli not batting. :))

The pitch is easier to bowl today no doubt. Maybe a touch more grip...the odd ball turning....but not doing anywhere near what would make India comfortable.

England would be very happy with this morning session. Let's see if Ash and Jayant can pull back.

Jayant?

Decent FC record, started to improve last 1-2 seasons.

Picked on potential ?

England bounce back. Need to get Ind all out within 400 and score big with high run rate to stay in the chase of win.

Really impressed with Jayant so far with the bat.

Looks very calm and composed for a débutant.

Both are offies and both can bat.

Ashwin and his protégé so far so good. Let's hope they turn it on with the ball though.

These analysts are bekaar, they keep saying, it will turn, it will behave in an uneven fashion, blah blah blah. Nothing much is happening even here. Slow turn and flat

This is the risk with new venues, they never come up with right tracks first up.

Yup, I thought it would be a rank turner today. Nothing really so far, pretty easy to bat.

These two are shutting the door for Eng quickly here. If they add another 50-60 runs, Eng will just have to hope for a draw.

great batting by Ashwin. He has saved all the hardwork by Kohli and Pujara yesterday.

yeah there was a moment when it looked like Eng have bounced back but this partnership has ended any hopes.

Cos they never listen to SIF.

SIF is the foremost expert when it comes to talking about how the pitch is behaving currently. :))

Garbage in pitch analysis before the game is on though.

Our line up has been misfiring for a while. Not more than 2 fire in the top order and we find ourselves in trouble only to be bailed out by Ashwin/Saha/Jadeja.

Our batting depth atm is saving us from embarrassing collapses. Need the top order to be a bit more consistent.

England have 7 south paws. I hope Ash and Jayant bowl better with a big score behind.

If we can contain the RR we will get wickets, that's 1 thing I am pinning my hopes on this slow pitch.

This new guy looks pretty compact and classical. Spinners are not troubling him. Eng can try attacking with pacers on both end for few overs.

Not to sound ungrateful but it is a worry when we have to huff and puff to score 500 after being 300-3.

Our batting XI is unsustainable.

We can't have 5 batsmen with Saha in (who can be gritty but not someone you can trust to make consistent scores).

Need an extra bat or a full on proper keeper bat.

Ashwin uses his luck well. :))

Unfair on Saha who has been brilliant with the bat in recent times and bailed us out from tough situations - 100 in 3rd test vs WI, twin 50s in the 2nd test vs NZ etc.

Yes he has done well and you have to admire his fighting spirit but issue is that when he doesn't do well...he absolutely doesn't do well.

Look at his dismissal today.

Didn't even play a shot.

Looks so shaky.

If Ashwin's form goes down (touchwood), the effects will be huge.

I mean its about mental aspect too. Our top order when batting would know that at 5 down...we are in risky territory. That puts a lot of pressure on them.

That's why there is this huge dilemma. Saha hasn't done badly enough to be dropped....but he doesn't do well enough to feel safe.

We have become a team that will not bat the opposition out of the game. Something like 450-500 has become our ceiling even if we bat well.

But the deep line up and especially one that is clutch means that is we would rarely get bowled out for a 200.

Once the 4th wicket falls, we will usually score 100-150 runs. Even on a tough batting pitch, we would score at least a 100, but even on a flat pitch we dont seem to score more than 150.

But yeah, would be nice to have a proper batsman keeper at 6.

In Ashwin we trust.

But he's out now. :(

Cos Ash is doing it.

When he doesn't score...then it will be hard.

Anyways...he is out now. England worked on his weakness. Not forward enough after bouncer. Gotta be careful in next innings.

This was a pitch where Ash could have easily scored a 100.

Doesn't leave enough balls outside off.

Looked so much at ease. Damn.

No 7 would be ideal for him long term.

To be honest, its not just Ash. Ash is there more often, but with one top order batsman on the other end, even Saha and Jadeja end to apply themselves better.

Jadeja is a massive disappointment with the bat - one or two 50s in 20+ tests isn't good enough.

This Jayant Yadav looks pretty good, doesn't he?

All will be undone if he goes for 1/110 though.

Its about what happens long term.

We are one bat short.

Dunno how we are gonna make that up.

Our lower order tail is very very good but too much to expect from them.

English commies are certain they have worked out Ash.

Let's see if that turns out to be true over the course of series.

Cant disagree with you on that. A better keeper-bat at 6 would make us the strongest batting line up in the world.

India should have scored at least 525 here. Huge difference in batting with a scoreboard pressure when you need 300+ to avoid follow on as opposed to only 250.

hahahahaha tailenders teeing off is one of the best sights in cricket :))

I am expecting England to play well here. Looks like a draw on the cards. Hope our bowling can prove me wrong though.
