What's new

India v England | 3rd Test | Mohali | Nov 26-30, 2016 | Day 1

I think the analysis of this day has been all wrong. 8 wickets went down and about another 6 clear chances were missed. This is not the featherbed that the typically ultra-dreary and predictably negative English pundits would have you believe. I think England will bowl very well on this surface and make the game competitive.

It's India's match to lose from here on. I expect Rahane to come back to form. India will score 460 with a lead of around 180. England will be all out for 250 in their 2nd innings for India to win by 7 wickets.

You will miss Broad big time. Was any other pacer available?

Except for Hameed ,Woakes most of wickets were not on "peach" deliveries ,Root and Cook were absolutely lazy and Bairstow couldn't make use of two chances he got.

India might collapse as well but the surface isn't that great for bowling as you are making it to be.

Except in England, Kohli has dominated and outformed Rahane in every series. Kohli wasn't even rated highly by Indian fans before this series. That double hundred against NZ Kickstarted his golden run in tests. That innings was very unkohliesque with lots of patience.

Are you sure - we are talking about Test cricket here.

Kohli is a better batsmen than Rahane and Root will prove to be better than Bairstow. Bairstow is getting plenty of credit on this forum and by other pundits so not sure what your on about.

Bairstow is not getting remotely close to what he is doing in last 12 months, compared to what Root is getting on potential, based on one knock of 254. It's not only about numerical (run) - the way he has got out from 1st innings of Lord's & since is beyond acceptable for a No. 7 - let alone No. 3; and he is rated to replace one of Hammond or Compton in All-time English XI for No. 4 spot. If this is after proving such, imagine what would be the scenario if those exchanged their scores - on top of that, Jhony kept wicket.

Virat is better batsman may be (I am not sure about Test though) - but the comparison should have been Virat vs Rahne Test level (or you can say Amla vs AB, not sure who is who), not for Virat vs Rahne ODI level.

Jonny should be allowed to play as a specialist bat, butler will be fine as a keeper. He still has a lot to prove in Australia conditions though.

Virat is a better test batsmen than Rahane. He has more impact and he dominates a series more than Rahane. Rahane will play a good innings and some good support knocks and because of that people are rating him higher in tests. Also virat is a much better player of spin than Rahane. So I'll take Virat overy Rahane

Not a great bowling pitch - a sporting pitch though I think.

If Eng can add another 50-60 runs then it won't be easy for India. New and old ball , both did something for pacers. India looks too dependent on Kohli and doesn't have proper opener for this test. I wish Broad was playing here. He would have been hard to play.

Me too - but at their respective status co intact, like AB-Amla :) - one to bat at 4 & another at 5, with both having specific roles. I do agree with one logic of Mamoon used frequently for YK - stats in & outside Asia doesn't tell how good a player is on green tops or wickets with a bit of spice, because there are batting bellters outside Asia as well - unfortunately, he uses that only for YK, hence the Indian top 5 envys him :(

Batting at 4 and 5 is similar. Batting at 3 where Amla bats and ab batting at 5 for the most part there's a big difference.

In the last few years kohli and rahanne have scored runs on difficult wickets outside of Asia whilst same can't be said of yk. Don't consider yk a ATG
