I hope it's a sporting pitch with lots of turns. I can't stand flat roads in tests.

Amazing how this loser Dhawan keeps getting a gig , when he aint test material.

Dhawan looks mentallly shot.He was not at all looking assured. He seems to be in that poor patch still. Also don't understand Gambhir being picked if he wasn't going to be played here.

Kohli told first session will be hard absolute tools! Vijay gone as well

Its fun watching the ball bounce around for a change.I wouldn't mind seeing more of these type of pitches...ind will lose home advantage tho.

No point of pitches being like outside ASia imo that too historically Kolkata has never been like this or atleast i havent seen it like this.

Kiwis in dominant position here after 1st session.

Good morning ppers.

Glad to see India 3 down on first day lunch.:danish

Kohli please have some shame. And please don't talk again about Pujara's strike rate. You are not worthy.

Dhawan to toh chullu bhar pani mein doob mar. Anyway nobody expects anything from you but bc try to Karo. Mc.

Is this a green pitch?

Why am I seeing the colour green on this pitch?

Anyways.....Indian batting - lol.

Only good things is that we picked Bhuvi in this pitch.

NO Williamson. No chance for NZ.

I like watching NZ perform but I don't see them winning without Williamson no matter whatever position India are at currently.

I think at home conditions India will anyways make a comeback as Nz without Williamson is really a nothing team with just some good promising players in the kitty.

It's a completely new pitch. The old soil was dug out and new soil was put in only some time ago. Read the grass seeds were from jamaica. You cannot shave off the grass as the soil is yet to harden and it needs grass to keep it intact. There will be some uneven bounce due to the loose soil on top of the pitch.

Did u notice the bounce? I wonder if we would miss Ishant more than expected

Williamson not playing because of a fever ?

Must have been serious then.

So will it spin or not?

Or have we given NZ an outside Asia track?

NZ without Williamson is like India without Sachin in the 90s - absolutely no chance of mustering a good total and thus no chance of winning or even drawing the Test.

Should have went with one pacer extra. Will turn late into the match but won't be big and sharp turn.

Ideally this match should be a draw but loose batting by either of the sides can turn the match in the oppostion's favour.

Loving this pitch and the outfield though. Great test match this at an iconic venue. Dada doing some great work with the Bengal cricket association.:dada

Beautiful batting this from Pujara. Remember him carrying his bat on a similar grassy pitch in Sri Lanka.

Didn't watch the first session, but the ball doesn't seem to be doing anything now.

Pujara is beast in Asia.

Rahane is beast outside ASIA.

And most importantly two players whom you could rely on.

I thought this pitch had bounce.

Spinners not getting much bounce.

Not much happening in the pitch. Easy batting conditions now.

Gotta capitalize.

Rahane is an amazing player outside Asia but can't play spin on turners convincingly.

Could have been out today.

Jeetan and Santner are not really putting enough revs on ball.

Ashwin will love this pitch.

Yeah...I kind get the feeling Jeetan is floating the ball.

But did bowl some good deliveries.

Dunno about Ashwin. He has not practiced AT ALL for this test.

Just coming straight from last test.

Prasun: "Brace yourself people...the pitch tends to yield a lot of wickets in the post-tea session, as per past trends" -- I can remember at least two Tests where this happened. Obviously the 2001 Test, but also 2010 against South Africa.

Matt Henry is under appreciated by NZ. Whatever format he is selected for, he does the business but is not always in the starting line up.

Rahane goes into aggressive mould when he gets set and takes his team out of trouble zone.

The wicket is a road... Rohit, Rahane, Ashwin and Jadeja will score plenty against our bowling attack.

Rohit will not score. I can bet on that.

As soon as new ball comes and if he is still there, he will return.

Going in with 4 bowlers is way too risky specially with Ashwin not 100%

But then you need people who change games in a session

.

Rohit failure is a blessing in disguise.

Kohli needed Rohit to fail to go back to 5 bowler plan.

I've been calling Rohit a hack since his first year of international cricket. India should thank the Cricketing Gods that he didn't score, and should pray that he continues to fail.

Kohli needed Rohit to fail to go back to 5 bowler plan.

Why pick him then if he needs him to fail?

Dont think he'll be dropped soon. That 60 odd gonna hurt us

I just don't understand this ridiculous attraction to quick scoring in a test match by these commentators ESP Ravi bullet Shastri.

We have to somehow notch up 300.Remember NZ don't have Kane Bradman Williamson this game. So it may be a tad difficult for them ?

This is going to be interesting. The variable bounce could create a few problems if they are directed at the stumps.

225/6, hopefully the tail wags and we cross 300. Would be a competitive total on this track.

Kohli you better score a century soon, this is his 5th failure after that 200 in WI.
