But one thing is clear that Saha will not get into the team for long or may be never. It sometimes back fire if you get lucky.

Wonder if IND will make it through the day! Looks like an Innings victory to SA and a good thrashing of IND.

Yup..Feel sorry for him. Got into a mess for no fault of his. You need to put this quandry on the selectors in this case. But even they might not have foreseen a replacement getting injured on match day morning. Perhaps going with 4 seamers when only 2 would play wasn't a good move..

But to be fair, all these views are with the huge benefit of hind sight. So benefit of the doubt scenario would be fine here..

Saha making a case for the next Test. :)

Well atleast he is not throwing the towel. Good to see...He has nothing to lose and hence might as well play some shots.

Can 'sustain' that for years without complain. :)
:)) Obviously a master at being masterly inactive ;-)

The credit for the phrase 'masterly inactivity' goes to Sir Humphrey Appleby of "Yes, Minister". It was his memorable and invaluable advice to Jim Hacker on what a Minister of the Crown should do with his time...

Invaluable expression, this. I will be sure to use it in future, crediting Sir Humphrey Appleby of course.

P.S. It proves once again that veterans of masterly inactivity are intellectual giants amongst men.

When is the next test starting? Do we have any update on Dravid's availability or he is completely out for this series?

A question for who is watching is live. How is Saha's technique. Does he look like a test material?

Have you guys noticed that of late Indian bowlers have batted well. They have resqued them many times with their batting or at least delayed a defeat.

Lols ab sabb kou Dravid yaad a raha hai. It is time to look ahead now. Let the legends like Dravid, Tendulkar and even Laxsman live in peace now:D

Yeah..and you are tasting a bit of that in this match...

India getting close to making S.A chase something here...!

Atleast the team is not throwing the towel as yet. Nice to see. Small consolation if we avoid an innings defeat which looks increasingly likely.

Although avoiding an innings defeat is in the context of a follow-on where SA only lost six wickets in the first innings.

Yes. Thankfully. One of the small factors for India's ascent to the top..

Yup..True. No questions that SA outplayed India.

Naah mate, not just as a batsman..He is fighting hard so credit there but cant see him playing as a batsman alone..

Indeed. I would recommend masterly inactivity to anybody; there are many far worse things one can aspire to!

Just searched and found the exact quotes (link) :
Jim Hacker: You will agree that so far my premiership has been a great success.
Sir Humphrey: Oh, indeed.
Jim Hacker: Yes, and I have been asking myself: "What can I do to continue this run of success?"
Sir Humphrey: Have you considered masterly inactivity?
Jim Hacker: No, Humphrey. A Prime Minister must be firm.
Sir Humphrey: Indeed. How about *firm* masterly inactivity?
:)))

For added laughs, the rest of the quotes on that very page, the DAA organisational chart here: link to org chart
Jim Hacker: "Who else is in this department?"
Sir Humphrey: "Well briefly, Sir, I am the Permanent Under Secretary of State, known as the Permanent Secretary. Woolley here is your Principal Private Secretary, I too have a Principal Private Secretary and he is the Principal Private Secretary to the Permanent Secretary. Directly responsible to me are 10 Deputy Secretaries, 87 Under Secretaries and 219 Assistant Secretaries. Directly responsible to the Principal Private Secretary are plain Private Secretaries, and the Prime Minister will be appointing 2 Parliamentary Under Secretaries and you will be appointing your own Parliamentary Private Secretary."
Jim Hacker: "Do they all type?"

Harris to Khan, SIX, Stop the press. Harris is going round the stumps. And Zaheer hammers it over long-off. He leaned forward and lofted it over the boundary
:))) :))) :)))

Not in the context you understood. Was just checking.

I am fine with few losses as long as we are getting few lads ready.

That's a treasurehouse of wisdom there! Thank you. There's obviously a lot to learn from the sage Sir Humphrey.

and

"Do they all type?" :)))

rubbish shot by zaheer............... tried to hook the second time as well......stupid.....OUT

Saha goes too. One wicket to go now. India trail by 7. Will it be an innings defeat? WIll it end today?

Oh yes my friend..it will end soon..i say give steyn 10 balls..

Oops..looks like I jinxed India with my "avoiding an innings defeat" comment :))

Would SA not be entitled to ask for an extra half an hour, given victory is imminent?

Ah..thats it. 10fer for Steyn..and well deserved. Undoubtedly the MOM :14:

Well done SA - great result to get an innings victory. :14: :14:

They took 20 Indian wickets and lost just 6 of their own - remarkable dominance.

Disgracefully, Sachin will retire as not a happy man..
Critics will be able to rightly point out that sachin plays for induvidual records and doesnt really bother if india won or not...

Well done SRT! Another century and another day as a loser! kudos for having the dubious record of most tons in losing causes

:))) :))) :))) :))) :))) :)))

well done SA...........Steyn has shown that indian batsmen cannot shield the bowlers ever......

107.1
Steyn to Mishra, OUT, Clatter! Mishra's stumps are in disarray as Steyn completes the ten-for with an incoming cutter. Gone! In the last 25 years India have suffered innings defeat only thrice at home (ie in India). All of them have come in the last ten years. And interestingly, all three of them have come against South Africa. What a performance by SA in this Test.

Interesting. Well played SA. Come on India, no worries, try harder next test.

Steyn is hugged by his team-mates and now all of them walk away back; the Indians meet them at the stairs to congratulate and shake hands. This is the first time MS Dhoni has tasted defeat as a captain. Meanwhile in the South African dressing room Kepler Wessels and the new coach back slap and congratulate the players.

That's interesting, well done Steyn and South Africa :)

Looks like southies are kicking the subcontinental butts here:

SA >> India
Aus >> Pak
NZ >> BD

SL, meanwhile, has said that it no longer regrets its decision of retiring from playing against non-Indian teams

Interesting indeed............. SA has adapted to indian conditions better than the other teams

Interestingly, India now need to win the second and final Test in order to remain number 1.

A draw or a SA win would mean SA go ahead of India in the rankings.

Hindsight is a good thing but these two test match were ill advised for india maybe they got too cocky and thought they would roll over the Africans. Too much cricket is catching up with India they looked pretty ordinary side even though they have a few players missing.

SA outplayed India in all aspects of the game. The batting in the only innings required by SA was monumental. Amla played a true gem and Kallis continued to do what he has been doing for more than a decade now.

Steyn showed the class that puts him on top of the pile BY a MILE for any current quicks around. Morkel has again showed glimpses as to what a great bowler he could become. Parnell, at 20, has the cricketing world at his mercy.

The pace dept. of SA is looking good and augurs well for the next 3/4 years. Harris has managed to take more wickets than his "more illustrious" counterparts and fulfills a vital role in the SA setup.

Sachin showed his class as possibly the best bat the world has seen in the last 15 years or so.

A clinical performance by SA. A stuttering performance by India, in their own backyard.

SA's perceived weakness of spin was AGAIN rubbished.

India's 1 st test defeat in the last 14 matches I beleive?

SA have now managed to not lose a series to India in their last 2 trips over there and also have a series victory in India in the not too distant past. Not bad for a side that cannot play spin?

What this victory (and at worst drawn a series) does highlight, in my opinion anyway, is that India cannot rightly claim to be number 1 in test cricket by beating sides that are not consistently good enough to challenge them, both home and away.

Excellent win for SA.

I think there isn't much between Australia , SA , India and England now in Test Cricket. Anybody out of this quartet can beat anybody.

SA maybe have the noses marginally in front of these other three , but it is close

And they will collect $ 175,000 from ICC as well

I'd say SA > Ind > Aus at the moment.

All the other three sides have a balanced team while India relies heavily on their batting..................that will be their downfall
