You can only really exploit it after you survive the new ball but if you lose your top order before then its lights out. Fortunately for India they have a world class player in to get them to 220-300 when it does happen.

Don't think it really matters - you should pick your best XI and then worry about batting positions.

And anyway, Sachin, Sehwag, Amla etc would all have been considered 'part time openers' when they first started in that role and they didn't turn out too bad.
