How can they let India bowl more then 90 overs in a day? Starc must be recalled and Jaddu should be deprived of the wicket:yk

Surprised no one mentioning the fact that The ball that got Henriques out hit him outside the line and in particular how Shastri said that it hit in line and was plumb.

Shastri is a bcci puppet, he'd never say any ill about team rockstars

:four for Pup, shades of Steve Waugh against England in 2003. Well played

Micheal Clarke gets to his century. An air of inevitability about it. I think by the time the tour is over Alistair Cook's assault will seem like playschool stuff.

Yet another captain's knock from Pup. This bloke has improved so much after taking the captaincy

And that's stumps. Great day for Aus. If they can scrape to somewhere over 350 Aus will be well placed.

And the Indians try a frivolous appeal on the last ball but the umps are having none of it. Shame we lost those 2 wickets at the end, had Moey been there I reckon we would have been a good chance at 350.

94.6
Jadeja to Clarke, no run, the day ends with a characteristic appeal from Dhoni for bat before wicket. Even if there was such a dismissal in the book, it hit the bat outside the line

Clarke and Ashwin's days. Ashwin 6th fifer in 13 tests. Massive peaks and valleys in his young career. Australia's day. Maybe 60-40. If they get to 350 they will be happy. Problem is lack of spinner in their side. Will Clarke bowl?

If this pitch deteriorates as everyone's predicting 350 is an above par score

The big concern as we move past this innings and get deeper into the series is how poorly the rest of the shltkickers performed, other than Pup and Henriques...Warner and Twatto are always hit and miss, as is Hughes, which is a worry. Cowan I am predicting will finish with an average of 29, which is the score he made today and the score he usually makes. Wade is massively overrated as a batsman and surely Moey can't maintain what he did today, if he finished the series with an average of 35 I would be happy. I know it was a difficult wicket, but Pup and Moey showed that you just need a bit of patience to get yourself in and you can score runs. Top order is very fragile and the batting order can't continue to rely on Pup to bail them out.

That said, while the bowling remains to be seen I reckon we will do better than India on that department at least.

Australia hold the upper hand at the end of day 1 although we picked up the crucial Henriques wicket in the fag end.. India should restrict them to 350! But Clarke is in such ominous form!, he could take them to 450 with the help of tail...lots of work to be done tomorrow morning!

relax you only ened two or three batsman to beat this rabble..cmon..they have one decent ish bowler..thats it..I would be more optimistic..once you go ahead theyll crumble..

I wonder how it is that Ashwin couldn't buy a wicket against England but is troubling the Aussies?

Pausewin is now going to stake a claim for the South Africa tour where he will revert back to the Shatneresque bowling.

Bowling a lot fuller, less afraid. When Watson does a KP on him, he will go into his shell again and start bowling short pitch paused crap.

Aussies have enough runs to get a 100+ or an even bigger lead. Will not be surprised if Aussies are batting again by end of day 2 tomorrow.

Dhoni's nepotism is hurting India big time, Vijay, Jadeja, Bhajji even Bhuvi all are his choices and are keeping better performers out of the team.

Ashwin will be hated even after improvement by some unfortunately (if he has indeed improved his bowling technique), it's the same complaint the English have about opinions on Anderson.

well the english have Mushy and have played us a few times..the aussies arent as good against spin..but their best player will carry them through..

Ashwin was good today. Because he bowled fuller. Harbhajan, as usual has been exposed again. Clarke might steer Aus to 400. Whether this will be good enough remains to be known. From 153/5 Australia will take this.

Here is my England team without the Saffricans:

Cook (c)
Root
Bell
Taylor
Collingwood (Comeback)
Root
Davies (wk) (LOL)
Swann
Broad
Bresnan
Anderson

No way is that the #2 side in the world.

i think most batsmen will get out when Davies is standing behind them breathing Vader-style.

:))) At that batting lineup, will get destroyed against any decent bowling attack. Root has a twin?

We are very poor players of spin, and particularly struggle when our batsmen cant hit through the line of the ball, which is how you learn cricket in Australia. So spin and swing always bother us, bounce never does,

England are quite good players of the moving ball, but in true English fashion, they have a phobia of spin due to some great spinners flogging them. Whereas bounce bothers the English.

There you go mate. :)

Happy with today but Clarke still carries us. Delighted with Henriques and that was a horrible horrible decision against him.

Well done to Henriques though, if he hadn't hung around we could have bowled them out.

Also scalps the record for the top score by a Portuguese born player!

Peculiar, given that you had several very good spinners in the nineties and noughties.

That is still a better batting lineup than India, Aus and Pak. Only the SA and Lankan lineups would outscore them

Our ability to play spin improves when we have a good spinner bowling in the nets, we were noticeably better when Warne was in the team. But its starting from a low base, and as you have no doubt seen, the ball doesnt spin in Aus unless you are a gun.
