A more experienced player would have stood his ground and been given not out.
But hopefully Bairstow will be excused for what is essentially a freak incident.

Bairstow the one to blame, he should know the laws of cricket, and if he had stood his ground umpire wouldve been forced to go to 3rd umpire.

Because a fielder's got to appeal. If the umpire can't know enough to be checking for something like this, then...well blame the umpire.

Why didn't Bairstow make an appeal to the umpire to check? Exactly the same reason Gambhir appealed - both probably weren't aware of the rule here.

You guys are the one clearly complaining Aussies about appealing for bump catches. Isn't it fair to say Gambir doing the same mistake?

Catch lodged in the helmet grille which gave the fielder an unfair advantage. lol so according to the laws of the game Bairstow was not out. We need DRS.

Did you need DRS when Cook was given not out yesterday and in last match :)

Well "you guys" are clearly supporting a team whose player tried to claim a bump catch last test. It is fair to say Gambhir doing the same mistake.

Yep. It makes the game fairer, and a more accurate representation of the skill levels of the teams. Opinion should be based on an objective analysis, not my team your team.

They had the better of the umpiring throughout this series but still English fans whinging.

Although I am not convinced Patel is a number 6 batsman but he doesn't need to play like a number 6 here. A 40-50 here will do the job very nicely.

Look, for goodness' sake! It's easy. The umps have made a mistake and Bairstow should be recalled. It's a bit embarrassing when they don't know the Law they are there to uphold.

If the Indians want more correct decisions - get DRS like everyone else.

Lol at Indian fans. A tetchy bunch.

:six and :four to Samit :)

Zak's series average climbing towards 40, but still behind Ashwin on 60

Oh please Cook was given not out yesterday and even in the last test match. Your team is 299/4. Youre still whining. English phir ro rahen hain :inzi

lol you guys clearly neglecting the favourable LBW decisions Pujara got in 1st inns, Yuvraj got in the 1st inns of 1 test. I'm just pointing out couple of crucial decisions. But you won't see us English fans moaning about that.

Ah forget this grill, England is going to win this game. Major person was Cook. He was on better side of umpires on both tests and most importantly he made it count.

I thought at least one umpire had a good view of it so they could have stopped the batsman even if he was walking.

Yeah Aleem was in a good position but all of Gambir, Bairstow, Dar didn't realised it, maybe in a rush for lunch.

Yeah Bairstow should be recalled and Cook needs to forfeit 100 runs because he was out yesterday. How about that? You didnt want correct decisions yesterday but you want it now? :yk

"We're getting reports that the umpires
asked MS Dhoni if he wanted to
reconsider the appeal against
Bairstow...not sure that was the right
course of action, the umpires are there
to make the decisions..."

lol 150 up for KP, :four and :six off Ojha.

Kevin officially annihilating India now :)
Scores level.

LOL name one. I dare you. English fans moan all the time. You must be joking.

hahhaha Andy Flower thought he would get lucky the second time. Good on :msd England need to show some spirit of cricket and GET ON WITH THE GAME :sami

Another 150+ in SC conditions for KP. Terrific player, all of a sudden left-armer looking clueless against KP, it was the other way around last week.

It's an absolute delight to watch KP bat (as much as I want him to get out).

lol well who cares anyway, India are struggling in this game, at home. Lucky they had Pujara and Ashwin to add some late runs else England would have already put a lid on it.

Ah, listen to the Indians crying as they lose their lead in the match!

To my mind, there is a difference between a wrong lbw decision and flat-out ignorance of the Laws by elite umpires.

Get DRS and you will remove more wrong lbw decisions.

English fans are the ones crying buddy. Bairstow is given out and PP turned into an all out whinge fest.

You werent so confident yesterday :yk It isnt over yet :wasim

You please go through the match thread again and count the number of moaning posts and you'll know who moans a lot.

Why should I? You're the one crying about Pujara getting favorable decisions. Man up and show me where he got those. :akhtar

lol after getting out to Yadav both times Patel must be happy to see him in the dressing room.

All we need is a 50+ runs partnership between Kp and Prior and a few 20-30 runs partnerships between all others.

The Indians' body language is poor, they've getting frustrated. Come on England, you've got them.....

This one for you Fire-bird

91.2 Anderson to Pujara, 1 run, huge shout, and it looked quite close. Length ball, pitches off, goes with the angle, Pujara plays across the line, is hit on the inside of the pad. There was a click as the ball passed the bat. Umpire Dar signals runs. Nick difficult to spot to replays, though. Pujara might have got away with one here.

Patel looks comfortable surprisingly. Pietersen turning it on as I predicted during lunch.

If India loses this match, they need to bury themselves.

We cannot bat ourside of Asia. Now we struggle even in home conditions

lol at that fielding attempt

What is surprising about Patel looking good? He got back-to-back rotten decisions in Test 1, very rare to get two shockers, and he has been known for his competency in these conditions

It looked close is different from the decision Cook got which was plumb. Just saying.

Patel goooooooooonnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Patel out. But managed 26, and a 59 partnership. Decent. We need more from Prior though.

Geez this bloke Patel looks like he's swallowed a pie or ten eh.

Good effort Patel (26), pitch is now turning square, Swann and Monty will decimate India on this.

Wait...please call Samit back. He got another poor decision here.... NOT!

ah you got your answer. Not a test material and failed.

Blame Sachin, Bhaji and BCCI. Sachin and Bhaji are finished as test players. DRS is a must for teams relying on spin bowlers to get them wickets.

Putting it out there now. Kevinder will score a double ton in front of his home crowd.

Maybe not Test material and due to be replaced sooner or later, but I disagree that he flopped. A quick 26, 60 partnership, lots of batting to come. He did a job today and has got two shockers in first Test, a magic ball here. I like harsh assessments but this is an overly harsh one from you

Eng need to get this lead past 100. Need to cash in on Cook and KP's hard work.

Yeah I agree Patel did a decent job. Now the rest has to chip in as well to get a 100+ lead.

2 times in a row?

I doubt it.

I don't. England clearly have the better spin attack.

Swann and Monty were ripping it sideways on Day 1, whereas only Ojha has even turned a ball for you guys. The respective scoreboards speak louder than either of us anyway.

Lol India's plan should be to just get the other 5 out while giving KP as little strike as possible.
