This pitch will turn on the last two days , Eng will need to bat well in first innings.

Dhoni batting well here, he is batting for the stumps , has shut down his shop. he knows India should get to 320 - 330 here.

I dont know if batting first was the right decision. Against Saffers , India had bowled them out for under 300 with a bowling attack comprised of a good Zaheer, usual Ishant, No-ball king Mishra and Crapbhajan. Then they batted and destroyed the Saffers. Even Dhoni got a century. Here, the bowling attack is better with Ojha being the trump card.

Batting will be the best probably on days 2 and 3.

If they are in on a day two pitch, with India out for less than 350, they will be happy, and score runs.

India's bowlers have to rescue them here, as I cannot see Dhoni Ashwin et al, taking India close to 400.

Bowled Jimmy, bowled Monty (again), batted Tenders!

india should look to get 340-350 and should restrict enfland<275 and i dont think there is another collapse in 3rd innings

was a good day for England...poor batting from India..sachin and gambhir looked in the form and scored valuable 76 and 60 respectively ..but other batsmen repeated the same past mistakes and got out cheaply

clearly Englands day.way too less a score considering the track

only positive Sachin looks back in some touch

+points=gauti, paajji back to form and maybe dhoni tomorrow
-points-careless sehwag again!!..kohli and uv (no use in tests)
lets look for more ++ves 2mrow

jimmy Bowled surprisingly well today...accuracy with swing...and got the most prized wicket of sachin

It has been undoubtedly been England's day. After winning the toss, India squandered away a solid start by their openers. Sehwag and Gambhir looked good till they lasted. Sachin Tendulkar struggled a bit at the start, but came out looking extremely fluent after Tea. There was much speculation regarding the pitch and though it has kept low at times, it was England's frontline seamer James Anderson who has been the best bowler on display today. He got the old ball to speak and picked up Tendulkar and Kohli. Panesar bowled tirelessly and had two wickets to show for it, while Swann had just one.

The wicket looked actually quite good for batting, but India already 7 down. Dhoni needs to bring out his ODI batting to get some quick runs here, ideally India would want 350.

But if Enlgand can enforce another mini collapse tomorrow morning and bowl India out for under 300 they would be delighted.

Interesting days ahead.

Not with the tail India has. Its unrealistic.

Its up to Dhoni to go all out tomorrow.

IMO India will be all out in the first 30 mins tomorrow. 290.

Oh dear, India. Not looking good at all. I was expecting some revenge for the 0-4 loss, but instead they seem to have a mental block when it comes to England at the moment. Match is not over yet though.

Seems to me that England are going to win this series now, I feel that the momentum is with them and that India have been found out. I'd put money on it.

Adamant now, England are going to win the series 3-1.

just watched the 2nd spell bowled by jimmy, magnificent will be an understatement to describe it.

Bad performance by hosts . If England take a 150+ lead,we could lose this test .

England's day. India's second inning will have to match England's first to force a favorable result.

i was telling about what indian team management whould be thinking right now!!
SIR, if you are that sure please tell us about at what time will indian wickets whould fall and who will take the wickets??:msd

India need to push the total towards 350-360 and bowled them out under 300 before scoring big in the second innings which looks unlikly after seen in the last three innings, but they need to do in order to regain series back, England doing everything right since losing the Ahmedabad Test.

Sehwag, Pujara, Kohli and Yuvraj need to stand up in the second innings.

i think we shouldnt lose hope..england is due for another collapse in dusty+spinning pitches of SUBCONTIENENT,,
1st inning=collapse
2nd=no collapse
3rd =no collapse
4th innings =(no oppurtunity for collapse)
now they have exceeded their limits
5th innings=major collapse (maybe under<200)

273....respectable total on this pitch..

127 more will take us to 400...

Looks like more than enough

I'm delighted by this England performance. A terrific team effort. The pitch is low, slow and currently offers little help for bowlers (either seamers or spinners), but England kept it tight and were helped by some indifferent Indian batting. I would say from what I've seen, a par score at the moment is 400+.

India will be depending on a good performance with the ball by Zaheer Khan tomorrow I think.

What are you talking about the pitch is really flat.

Expect India's tail to fold quickly tomorrow like it always does. They'll score around 300. Then it will be England's turn to bat, and even if the pitch does break-up later England have enough time to score loads, which they no doubt will do because India has a pants bowling-line up. It's going to be similar to last time, although maybe expect an innings defeat for India this time.

India are simply are bad test team at the moment, and when you're bad it doesn't matter where you play. Over the years it's been when India have been competitive away from home (won in england, drew with south africa, deserved to take series in Aus) that your home grounds have been fortresses for you, right now you're just pants.

India will be lucky to get 300. Another KP special and England will win otherwise i see India winning this one because batting last will be even more difficult then in Mumbai.

Who cares about the result, main thing is Sachin is back in some form. Rest doesn't matter.

Just Wait n watch.....

Zaheer is slow and fat, Aswhin is dire, and ojha, decent as he is, is more the kind of bowler who's going to take 5/150 rather than 6/80. I don't see where your wickets are going to come from.

England's batsmen, as we've seen throughout the series in Sri Lanka and this one in India, are in fact becoming increasingly accustomed to these wickets, they're not going to get themselves out anymore. And there's no Ajmal to get them out either.

Good day for england, if they can bowl india out for less then 300 and then bat well in 1st inns and get a big 1st inns lead then India will be in some serious trouble on a wicket which doesnt appear to be offering much assistance.

It is not a bad session either. India are batting first , so India have that advantage.

Also still lots of batting to come. India will bat out Eng here, max Eng can do is draw.

And this is why you don't call anything in the first session, especially with strong will-statements.

Surely the Indian batting juggernaut is finished? The second test versus NZ and these three tests versus England prove it. They're struggling so much more than they used to, and it's just day 1.

Anderson was unlucky not to get Yuvi for 30 runs less there! A good day for him.

Agreed. It was finished with decline of Dravid/Lakshman/Tendulkar a while back but batting has gone down to an average level. It's nothing special even at home.

I think England has tight grip on test match. Just need to bat well in first inning. Rare test series victory in sight. Indian batting is very down right now. Eng won't get better chance than this to go for series win.

I think Indian Test team is pretty average at the moment.

I have criticized them in the past 1yr, but it is obvious that this team ran its course. Seniors are getting old fast and juniors are still trying to establish.

Bowling as usual is mediocre. No wonder we are getting challenged at home. Do not even want to talk about away tours.

Indian Test team's demise started in England in 2011 and Aus.

Time for BCCI to man up and drop some players. Give the young lads a chance. India might lose a few Test matches. But it will benefit them in long term.

This is the best chance for England to win a Test series in India. If they do not win now, I don't think they ever will. This is the weakest Indian Test side in the last decade.

England will lose this test, if they had batted first then maybe. But right now cant see India losing unless KP produces another great 150+ score.

If England bats reasonably well in first innings then I think Indians will be under lot of pressure. I think this below par batting has lot to do with the pressure they built on them self with so called revenge series and going for turners etc openly.

If India would have played normally then I think they had better chance. So again, if Eng bats well then I think Indians might fold in 2nd innings to give easy win to Eng. Pitch is very good for batting and 270 odd runs for 7 wickets is poor first inning score. England needs to take a lead around 100-150 runs which is possible on this pitch even without KP. I admit England can't win anything on turners without KP but this pitch is very good for batting in first 2-3 days.

If Eng can't win test series against this Indian team then they won't win for long time in India. India has one very good spinner and one decent one. Indian batting is low on confidence and under pressure. England has two quality spinners and Anderson is also doing well here. Finn might chip in with few wickets. Golden chance to win a series in India. It's now or never. Not really never but you get the drift.

Great first day from the Pom Poms. Hopefully we can roll India by lunch and put a big score on the board and only bat once.

I find it hilarious that you've gone for the "we" with England while RA has done that for India.

best time to bat at eden is day 2 and 3. If england batsman get set then india gonna suffer. Some reverse swing so ZK will have to come to the party.

according to dravid he thinks the spinners of india wont really do much in this match and the seamers will have to do alot of the work. England win then i guess??

Decent effort but still a lot of work to do. England require a first innings lead of 150.
