:))) :))) on this pitch I don't think they'll survive a day.. though I'd hope they prove me wrong and score big but it'll take some good batting.

I said that If Eng want to win , they need a big lead here. They do or not do , that is a different question.

I expect that Cook will get out for a low score in at least one of these innings, so it will be quite telling to see how the batting lineup copes thereafter.

Lots of patience required here, need to be calm and be ready to play out a few maidens.

Cook has been amazing in this series. He need to stretch it to one more inns to put England in a commanding position. Everything depends on Cook here.

Ishant's average is over 37. That's horrible

Give someone else a go

Are you mad ?

Zaheer Khan is the best pacer India has. What he needs to do is retire from 20 20 and Play only Test.

He'll never do that..if he retires from T20s that mean he won't be playing IPL that means no more extra money so why'd he do that.

India need to expose some other bowlers to Test cricket (seamers). Zaheer will be gone soon, and Ishant is not up to Test level. Only Malcolm is a Test bowler.

Ishant unlucky to be hit for four there

Edit - turns out he actually was unlucky, I was bagging him :)))

The selectors have to force that point, one player cannot play all 3 formats.

You're getting carried away RA. You're supporting India for just one series, no need to look for their long term interests. :butt

Sorry mate :akhtar. India need to back Ishant in for a long Test career and they should count on Jaheer playing until forty.

I havent seen this Compton bat, is he stereotypical Englishblockerbatter?

Yes, though he showed he has shots in a pressure free situation in the second innings.

Another grafter it seems like.

Can't say I mind. Grafters are useful, boring but useful.

He actually is more in the Cook mold than Trott in terms of blocking though. Once he's in, he can do really well.

Oh I checked, he isnt English. Another Saffer. I mistakenly thought you had produced a cricketer there.

Good session for us. Ind 316, Eng 22/0. Already knocked of the 10th wicket partnership, two good batting sessions ahead of us, need to use it best.

Seriously, What's up with so many Saffers playing for England?

I don't mind this importing business as long as only England does it on mass scale. We have a good test series going on due to a Saffer otherwise it would have same old story. But I am puzzled about them only importing Saffers. Why not others? Saffers are good but there are talents in other places.

Well, that is an isolated case but I see too many Saffers in English team. There was one bowler who was pathetic in ODI in India. I forgot his name.

I think he played only due to being a Saffer because I can't imagine him playing for England. It seems English management has lot more faith in Saffers to win the game. They are not wrong in theory. KP and Trott have helped them win lot of games. But they are gun players, why play some xyz only because he is a Saffer.

Actually we produced them all, except perhaps Trott who played for SA at <19 level. Even KP was a tailender and offie before we turned him into a world-class batter.

But it is getting a bit silly - Flower is unconsciously biased IMO.

That might explain some random Saffer playing as bowler even though he was pretty bad.

We didn't import anyone. The emigrated en masse. A lot of Saffers have dual nationality and fled to the UK when it looked like they were going to have a race war in the nineties.

Yaah, but if you take account of numbers, that will be minuscule when compared to total population.

Those dual nationality can explain one odd case but recently I have seen too many Saffers. They are definitely over represented based on their numbers when compared to British born cricketers. Even when they are not so good they get into English team. Definitely a case of being bit biased.

Tell it to Flower - he picks them.

Whatever, I am rooting for this latest Saffer as well.

I want to see England post a good total here. England has good chance to win a test series.

Oh Cookie!!! Lucky there!!! He's been bogged down from 17 off 22 balls to 17 off 46 balls, he's allowing Zaheer to set him up.

England and Wales is the official team for ECB.
Plus he's not really welsh anyway, he was born in Gloucester which although near Wales, is not Wales. :)))

No easy runs , great tactic employed. Dry the runs and put pressure. Fletcher must be behind this tactic.

Cook isn't Welsh :))

Above discussion says it all. This has been very attritional! England have done reasonably well to see off the new ball so they need to start opening up now.

Need another big knock from captain Cook. Compton need to play a bit more positively. Letting the bowlers get on top is only going to make things harder.

Cook hit a six?

Well then. If you were to take a shot every time that happens in a year... You could still legally drive home.

Good shot for 6!!! 50 partnership as well.

Cookie looked troubled by Zaheer but he hung in there to see off his spell, he shouldn't worry about Ishant he doesn't bring the back anyway it's the right hander Compo who should be careful against Ishant.

Sharma might get a couple of sympathy wickets but his record particularly this year is awful - 3 wickets in 4 completed Tests at an average of 122. No, I didn't just make that up. He is a proven failure and shouldn't have been selected for such a huge Test match.

Meanwhile Cook is an insanely brilliant cricket player. I am in awe.
