Nair is so selfish.
Nair is so selfish.
Should have batted till Tea on day 5.Guys, do you think the lead is enough to declare now?
How can you blame the batsman for batting if the captain doesn't want to declare?
Take a bow Nair....300......
You just followed instructions mate....so you can't be blamed.
McCullum declared against SL for 390 while KW was 242 and Watling was 142.
Nvm it was a misfiled.
Nair has beaten Sachin's highest score in his third Test![]()

Sachin's,Dravid's,Laxman's,Gavaskar's
Dawson has held up under this mauling better than Moeen and Adil.

Absolutely hate teams and players who put individual achievements ahead of the team.
Well played to the guy. Regardless of context, pitch and the opposition he has a goddamn triple hundred and you need some serious temprement and talent to score such
Super batting Nair.
Kohli you are a liar. Told everyone in press conference that personal milestones are out of teams system.

I'll lmao if England are 190/9 tomorrow at stumps.
lol people do remember we have already won the series right ?
A triple century is a confidence builder, so this is an investment that India has made in Nair. In the future Nair will repay, so from the team's perspective this is justified.

Ashwin looking threatening but I think England with go for the chase especially with Bairstow, Root and Buttler playing. Would be funny if India loses this honestly.
Nair's a youngster though. It's great for his confidence. Also if this assures Rohit will no longer be selected it'll make me even happier than another win at home.Well, then no need to make statements about personal milestones, is there? Then you should say - We have got personal milestones out of the system except when we have already won the series, or to morally boost a batsman or if its a triple hundred
And he scored at an SR of 79...almost 80.
First 100 was slow. Next 200 was super fast.
Laraesque.
Maybe even better in terms of pacing.
His game against pacers is suspect. Looks really good against spinners.
Would love to hear the views of those who can analyze his batting.

I think Kohli made a mistake, I don't think India have enough runs.
I think he may struggle against bowlers like Hazelwood and in England when it swings . No obvious weakness in his technique against pace , infact plays the short ball very well . As long as he does not bat in Top3 , I dont think there is anything to worry . Spin off course I consider him as the best in the country .

His technique against swing and seam is fine. Bounce is a thing you don't get in India. He failed in Australia in a 'A' tour recently IIRC. But that can be worked upon.
If the plan for late declaration was to end Mr. Talent test career for ever, then I am all good for it.
I won't mind that.
Some whining in this thread is so cringe worthy and a disgrace. Come on India is already 3-0.
You know, it's all very good to pick on statements Kohli has made, but you have to consider this, the batsman in question despite whatever score he ended up with today will most likely not be an automatic starter for the next game. If the team is asking Nair to take one for the team in the next few games, it is extremely unfair on Nair if the team doesn't stand by him when he is in sight of a test triple. Test triples are not exactly easy to come by you know, if people are being asked to make sacrifices for the team cause, it isn't to much to expect the team to stand by a team mate once in a while - in a dead rubber.
Well, the problem is what happens once Rahane comes in? I am sure there aren't many instances where a player got dropped after scoring a century, let a lone triple century. Would Kohli and co revert to playing 7 batsmen?
With Jadeja and Ashwin bowling the bulk of the overs, India should bowl 100+ overs tomorrow and make up the 8-10 overs lost today. Note that if India had declared with 200 or so in front, they would almost certainly have had to bat again and in that case England would have ensured that no more than 90 would be bowled. Now, England can only overhaul India's lead in the last hour by which time India would bowl 80-85 overs. So, overall we haven't lost that many overs. What we have lost is the opportunity to bowl more overs at tired openers.
Might not be a regular member in the team but its good to have him as a first back-up replacement rather than having Rohit and if at times they have to switch to 7-4 then Nair can be picked in the team.
Indian batsmen these days are too prone to injuries too. Its to be seen if he will do well outside Asia or not.Manish Pandey is another backup although the stocks have gone down for him now.
How do you drop a guy who scored a triple ton, in the next match? Just how?
Rohit does provide that parttime offspin option (considering India is likely to go with 4 bowlers when he plays)
He will be included somehow in that 1 test vs Bangladesh.
However, a player of Rahane calibre can't be dropped whether we are playing in Nagpur or in Brisbane.

Nair should take the ball, burn it and give it to the English in a urn.
Failed in Aus dosent necessarily mean his game against short ball is weak , I have followed his game very closely he gets into good position playing the pull . His foot work is relatively poor and gets rooted some times, which is important to cover swing and he does drive a lot on offside , thats why think he may struggle in England .
