Well if newbies like Sundar, Nadeem are playing ahead of Kuldeep inspite of them not being part of the initial squad, it surely says that the captain doesn't have much confidence on him.
 
Was going to let out a wail that Kohli's back and so are his selections. But this time perhaps some merit. Sundar, Ashwin and potentially Kuldeep would all bring the ball back in to the right-hander.

This Nadeem guy, whoever he is - just looked up his stats and he has 400+ domestic wickets. He knows how to take wickets in India. So yeah, why not.
 
Its a solid team. Always back finger spinners over wrist ones in tests in India

Washi n nadeem are replacing jaddu the batsman n jaddu the bowler. if axar was available then Kuldeep would have played. This shows the value jaddu brings to this team.

Yes Jadeja is a big miss but 6 batsmen + Ashwin should be enough at home.
 
High quality bowling from ishant and bumrah, and high quality batting so far from openers . Good cricket all round

He looks like one of the guys walking to their car after prom night, haven't seen any cricketer have Bumrah's mannerism out on the field.

He just looks like he's having so much fun out there rather then playing Test Cricket.

Yeah harsh on Kuldeep.

But can understand the decision considering Nadeem is needed here to take the ball away from right handers and Sundar is basically playing Jaddu's allrounder role.
 
With Pant as keeper Ashwin will have a nervous breakdown very soon. He always misses catches off Ashwin's bowling, reserves his worst for his Delhi Capitals mate :kakmal

"Come on Ash, Come on Ash" and then drops sitters. Hope this doesn't become chapter 2 of Kamran-Kaneria.
 
Ashwin with the ball. If spin is to be introduced so early , and such pitches are made , its better to go with Pandaya and one pacer and three spinners

Don’t think Pandya is fit yet to bowl 12-15 overs per day.

Nadeem turning big on Day 1. Will be difficult to play in the third innings pitch.

Was hitting the middle stump. Dan Lawrence was walking down the wicket and thinking about the review, but Dom Sibley just told him nah mate don’t even bother, lol.
 
Poor batting to lose 2 wickets just before lunch. Wicket has nothing in it so far.
 
Great delivery from Bumrah to Lawrence while Burns just committed suicide.

Reverse for Bumrah after 27 overs. Super dry conditions. It will get harder and harder to bat.

Ashwin to Root proves to be fascinating to watch.
 
Bumrah has clearly got this tailing in with reverse to the right handers now. Only a matter of time before he picks up another wicket. Big test of Root’s technique.

Anderson, Archer and Stokes will also enjoy these bone-dry conditions later on in the game.
 
Ashwin has good variations of pace.

Sibbers is moving positively, his last-innings fifty in SL seems to have given him confidence.
 
Axar Patel ruled out of first Test; Shahbaz Nadeem & Rahul Chahar added to India squad

Axar Patel has been ruled out of the first Paytm Test against England. The all-rounder complained of pain in his left knee during Team India’s optional training session on Thursday. He is being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and while his detailed reports are awaited, he will not be available for selection for the opening match.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added spinners Shahbaz Nadeem and Rahul Chahar to India’s squad. Both Nadeem and Chahar have been training with Team India as part of the standby group of players.

Sibley seems stiller in the crease than he was last English summer.

Sibley is so boring to watch. On these pitches you pay to watch Stokes, Buttler, Rohit, Gill and Pant, not Sibley.
