Mumbai Indians defeat Chennai Super Kings by one run to win IPL title

Thala Dhoni and the way he operates with the given resources. No other captain in IPL would have thought of using all the 4 overs of Chahar upfront. MSD is legend for a reason.

Dhoni is outdated today! He is winning for CSK because there's lot of weakness in IPL teams (including CSK) with some average players (restriction on 4 overseas players), so its impossible to find 8X7=56 quality Indian players! So he works around these weaknesses/loopholes which he is definitely good at! Luck always goes with him... This is how he won the world cup also (World Cup at home! Negated teams like Australia & South Africa completely!) Got home conditions (even in England) in old CT editions!

He always got exposed in proper contests (overseas tests), World Cup'15, top players fading away, etc. Today his magic doesn't work in International Cricket because some teams have raised to strength (He will be a total dud against current England & Australian team)! But once he gets into his comfort zone he makes the most use of it & gets all the accolades!

And I admit that Kohli is utter useless captain compared to Dhoni and tenure under him (Dhoni's ghost captaincy) isn't going to help anymore as people think! That's why the team looks more competitive in Tests in spite of absence of Dhoni and Kohli's stupidity! A strong IPL Team Management would have helped Kohli in the right way (to improve his captaincy and carry that to captain the Indian Team!) compared to corrupt BCCI body! A strong IPL Owner would have put a break on his stupid antics and demanded proper leadership! In fact they would have had the guts to remove his captaincy if he continued to fail or drop him from their club if had ego... But RCB is even worse than Shastri in this regard!

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow might be unlikely partners-in-crime, as two of the most passionate cricketers of fierce rival countries - Australia and England.

But part of the beauty of the IPL is in throwing together players who might otherwise only be opponents, and the resultant combinations can yield some unexpected results. In the case of Bairstow and Warner, it's produced one of the most explosive partnerships in IPL history.

Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Sunrisers Hyderabad duo were at their destructive best, tallying up 185 runs for the first wicket, the highest first-wicket stand in IPL history. Each made a century, only the second time in IPL history a team has had two centurions in the same game, and they have now passed 100 every time they have batted together, making them the first pair to do so three times in succession.

The pair seem to love batting together, and each couldn't help lavishing praise on the other after their stellar knocks. "There's a bit of a rapport there, isn't it? It's fantastic to bat in the middle with him," said Bairstow. "He's a fantastic player, has done it for a long, long time and now has the orange cap."

Warner wears the flame-coloured headgear on account of his 254 runs in three innings, making him the leading run-scorer in the competition so far, a feat made all the more impressive by the fact that he is just returning from a 12-month suspension from international cricket for his part in the Newlands ball-tampering scandal.

"The 12 months has done me well," Warner said. "I'm nice and refreshed. What a terrific innings here by Jonny, and a fantastic partnership by both of us."

The sign of an in-tune partnership is how they run between the wickets, and with the pair accumulating 64 runs in singles and doubles, it was clear that they have a good understanding. "This is one of the bigger pitches in India," explained Bairstow. "So, being able to nudge into the gaps, constantly rotating the strike [was important]. I'm absolutely cooked."

The high heat may have sapped Bairstow of energy, but it also drained their opponents. It was a supreme performance from the hosts, who notched up the highest total this season – 231/6 – and then dismantled RCB for a paltry 113 to clinch their second win on the trot.

No franchise should tolerate this nonsense this long. It sends a wrong message. Basically they just want to make money using his brand. Nothing else. They don't care about their supporters which is totally WROGN :)

Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Capitals, 13th Match

Apr 01 • 5:30 PM at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali

No franchise should tolerate this nonsense this long. It sends a wrong message. Basically they just want to make money using his brand. Nothing else. They don't care about their supporters which is totally WROGN :)

But the problem is complicated! He is full time captain of Indian team as well...! So franchisees may think twice to drop him from captaincy! (As it may also lead to pressure from media/fans to drop him from Indian team's captaincy as soon as there is let-down in any series! There are lots of such series actually... Like recent home ODI series against Australia, all the overseas test series, etc!)

So its not easy for RCB to drop him, so as you said they are running their business just using his brand name and nothing else! Even other IPL franchisees (had they hired him!) would have acted smartly by not retaining him (if he made same mess with them which is very likely!) its difficult to drop him from captaincy as he is captain of Indian team as well!

RCB doesn't have guts to drop him completely from their squad because its not just Kohli's captaincy, it is some dreadful cricketing knowledge which is prevailing with their management right from 1st edition actually!

In fact the irony is that V.Kohli is the only smart find for them in their entire history (Chahal to some extent perhaps. They lost Rahul) Kohli is their part right from his early days (before he was selected for Indian Team!) So there is some sentiment/bondage going on between him and the management, but that doesn't mean they can continue this stupidity and non-sense at the expense of their fans! Their official blog also is not bothered about the team-tactics/failures and are discussing some non-sense like taking dogs to the stadium, selfies, etc!

Lol at this Shaw kid being the backup opener for the WC19. He got out to some ugly shot in the last match when on 99 and again a brainless drive to get out cheaply today. Absolutely no temperament and game plan.

Pant playing a match winning innings here

Spoke too early? It was a right platform for him to take his team home today but as usual he threw it away after hacking few sixes. There was no need to swing every ball for 6 when the RR was just 7. This hack will never win anything while chasing if he continues this clown like approach.

He is good sloger at number 7 or 6

That is where he should play

Ashwin is a very good captain . Shami should start for India in the WC. He is in some unreal forum at the moment!!!!!!!!

What are done Delhi.. you had the game on plate and you decide it throw away...

btw that last two deliveries are too good for tail enders.. So it's first hat-trick in this season..

Sam Curran is the real deal. Pandyas and Faheems are not even close. Curran is way up there with Stokes.

Delhi was going well, all of sudden they collapsed from nowhere when I start to watch :uakmal

For the second time in a row Delhi made hash of what was a winning position, failing to make 23 runs off 21 balls, losing seven wickets for just eight runs in 16 balls against Punjab in Match 13 of the Indian T20 League at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Chandigarh, Mohali.

While against Kolkata, Delhi managed a tie and eventually relied on Kagiso Rabada to win the Super Over, on Monday Punjab closed out the game with some terrific death bowling to claim their third win. Delhi, shockingly, succumbed to their second loss.

Sam Curran, coming in place of an injured Chris Gayle, sent down a terrific 18th over that saw the backs of well-set Colin Ingram and Harshal Patel before Mohammed Shami virtually sealed the game with a four-run 19th over, that had two wickets as well. And Curran finished it with a hat-trick in the final over.

Delhi seemed to be on course for an easy win with four overs to go as Ingram was well-set on 36 off 24 while Rishabh Pant was batting on 33 off 24. But, with Pant cleaned up by Shami in the 127th over the floodgates opened as Delhi went for 144/3 to 152 all out, losing the match by 14 runs.

Curran, after conceding nine runs off his first over, claimed four wickets and gave away just two runs in his next two overs. Shami finished well with 2/27 in his four, while Ashwin made a telling impact with 2/31 and a crucial run-out.

After a decent start Delhi stuttered, falling prey to Punjab’s three-pronged spin attack consisting Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin and Mujeeb ur Rahman in the middle overs before Ingram anchored the chase until the 16th over/ Pant was slow to start, but contributed with a vital 39 off 26 balls.

After Chris Morris’ 3/30 and Sandeep Lamichhane’s 2/27 had limited Punjab to a below par total, Ashwin started the defence in style claiming Prithvi Shaw off the first ball of the innings. Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan then combined for a stand of 61 runs in 7.1 overs. Iyer was looking in good touch hitting five fours, but fell to South African Hardus Viljoen in the 8th over for 28 off 22 balls. An over later, immediately after the strategic break, Ashwin got the key wicket of Dhawan for 30 off 25 balls with a carrom ball that skidded off the turf, trapping the Indian opener in front.

With Ingram and Pant new to the crease, Punjab started to dominate with their spin trio, but shoddy fielding let the home team down. Ingram played the situation well to guide the young Pant who hit three fours and two sixes before falling in Shami’s second spell. Off the next ball skipper Ashwin hit the bulls-eye to run out the hard-hitting Chris Morris, to put his team back in the game and Delhi’s lower-order imploded after that.

Earlier, Punjab sprung a surprise by dropping Gayle and opened with Curran after being put in to bat, and while Curran, opening for the first time in his career, made 20 off 10 hitting three terrific boundaries off Avesh Khan, Punjab lost way in the middle overs.

Gayle was left out owing to niggle, and big things were expected from KL Rahul, but the opener was undone by a full one from Morris and departed LBW for just 15 off 11 balls in the second over. Curran’s quick runs meant that by the time he departed – after hitting Lamichhane for a straight six – trapped in front, Punjab were 36/2 in 3.5 overs.

But the wicket of Mayank Agarwal, when he backed up too far to a Sarfraz Khan shot that went straight to Shikhar Dhawan at extra cover who hit bulls-eye at the non-striker’s end, for six dented Punjab.

Despite Morris and Avesh going for plenty, Lamichhane ensured a tight lid was kept on the scoring rate. With Miller in as early as the eight over, Punjab were in rebuilding phase. Sarfaraz played some enterprising shots en route to a 29-ball 39 and combined with Miller for 62 runs for the fourth wicket.

However, a visibly tired Sarfraz handed Lamichhane his second wicket, caught behind in the 14th over. Miller, at the other, looked good for a final flourish taking two sixes – one each of Lamichhane and Harshal Patel, but got out at the wrong time to countrymate Morris, when he top-edge an off-cutter, caught by Pant.

In the last five overs, Punjab managed 39 runs losing five wickets, with Mandeep Singh remaining unbeaten on 29 off 21 balls.

Brief Scores: Punjab 166/9 (David Miller 43, Sarfaraz Khan 39; Chris Morris 3/30) beat Delhi 152 (Rishabh Pant 39, Colin Ingram 38; Sam Curran 4/11) by 14 runs.

Brilliant bowling from shami & Sam Curran at the end against tail.
Everything worked in favour of Punjab last in 4 overs.

Delhi is a good partner/buddy for RCB in the bottom of the table! Just when they looked better this time they are back on track in giving company to RCB...!

Sam Curran, the England all-rounder, claimed 4/11 to help Kings XI Punjab script one of the most thrilling T20 comebacks, but had "no idea" he had dismissed three in a row.

Delhi Capitals were cruising towards their target of 167, at one stage requiring just 23 runs from 21 balls with seven wickets in hand, but Sam Curran wreaked havoc with a hat-trick as the opposition collapsed from 144/3 to 152 all-out.

The hat-trick spanned two overs – Harshal Patel was dismissed at the end of the 18th over and Curran then removed Kagiso Rabada and Sandeep Lamichhane off successive deliveries at the start of the 20th over. So intense was the situation, that it slipped the 20-year-old's notice that he'd taken a hat-trick.

"No, not at all," said Curran in an interaction after the match when asked whether he was aware he'd achieved the feat. "My main focus was obviously that last ball when Rabada came and I knew his strengths and where I could bowl, so I was always aiming for his stumps and his toes.

"When we won the game, one of the players came up to me and said 'you've got a hat-trick'. I had absolutely no idea I had taken one."

Just two balls before the hat-trick sequence began, Curran had already dismissed Colin Ingram – his most important contribution to the turnaround considering that Ingram was going well at 38 from 29 deliveries.

The platform for Curran had been laid out. Mohammed Shami provided the spark that triggered the Delhi implosion by dismissing the dangerous Rishabh Pant for 39 off 26 balls, and Ravichandran Ashwin, the captain, then ran Chris Morris out for a golden duck. Yet it was Curran who stole the show with reverse-swinging yorkers to floor batsmen and seal the deal for his side, but he deflected all the praise towards his teammates instead.

"I think we were very lucky that Shami changed the game when he got Pant out" – AFP
"I think we were very lucky that Shami changed the game when he got Pant out," Curran said. I think they needed 30 off 28 balls, coming towards the end of the game it was almost gone, but the boys showed a lot of fight and the way Pant plays he's a very aggressive batsman.

"Very lucky go get him out at that stage and Ravichandran Ashwin's run out first ball was a huge turning point in the game... we know what Morris can do."

Reverse swing in T20s is a rare sight, yet Curran not only extracted it in ample amount but also allied it with stunning accuracy to aim at the hapless batsmen's toes, giving them little chance to merely keep him out, never mind the pursuit of runs.

"Bowling towards the end I just had one plan, the ball was reversing a little bit, I mainly wanted to give the batsman no room and try firing in as many yorkers as I could. Lucky enough we managed to get a great win."

Whatever it is Parthiv Patel as opener is a defensive/negative approach (just like what happens if we play him as opener in tests! He never grew like Gilchrist, hahaha)! If you have to play him (as keeper, as there is scarcity of them in IPL) play him after No.6...

These T20s are won most of the times with one of the Openers scoring huge runs! Parthiv doesn't have the tenacity to continue after 30 runs or so! Which means RCB always start with 1 Opener short (and they are changing the other opener consistently! Kohli is not an opener which he should have understood after 2016 IPL debacle where his chasing ability was diluted and Rahul was wasted in middle order!) Only teams with 2 solid & devastating openers can consistently win T20 matches!

RCB should not be carried away even if they win this match!

Nice to see Karnataka lad Gopal punching on the face of Kohli & RCB!

Kohli's atrocious stupidity continues as he still not learnt that he is not an opener since 2016...

Kohli fell for a Leggie again! Indian Top 3 are in terrible form! Lol at those people who think these 3 will set the big stage on fire in a month's time! Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli followed by Rayudu, Dhoni, Kedhar and Pandya! Can these guys combinely put a total of 200 runs against super attacks with their horrible form? I doubt!

Kohli is excited by 30 odd by Partiv here! But he can get out any time now! Such matches are won when set batsman goes on to score big and take the game away from opposition! Kaluvitharana/Srilanka tactics is outdated for today!

RCB's bowling unit is severely depleted in this match! Butler will eat them alive!

Copying Babar Azam? Lol.

Can you believe it, RCB lost IPL finals with this stupid ploy (Rahul was batting at No.4 and Kohli was opening! Kohli was screaming like "leading from the front" instead of planning things!)

India are not in good shape going into the world cup! I have hopes only on the bowling to win some league matches (when there's not much pressure). Indian team will suck if they reach semis and finals!

I just don't understand Kohli's emotions! Why should he cheer for players at every stage of the game when they are doing well (and of course gets dejected at every failures in the match!) You don't have to get so excited like a viewer watching the game! Its understandable when the game has reached a crucial stage/finishing stage! But not always like this! Just allow the guys to go about their job!

Umesh is rubbish, absolute rubbish... he has to defend 5 runs and he didn't try to bowl a Yorker.. all he try to bowl short pitch stuff..

And for RCB, they should consider bringing back Nehra.. he can bowl lot better than the current lot..

RCB may get dissolved like cochi and Pune, better KSCA gets involved in helping form a new team with new spirit to preserve the rich heritage of it's cricket.

RCB has the least best players from England, Australia, NZ, WI and even ABD is not active in international cricket. They think Kohli is everything!

Mumbai vs Chennai

MUMBAI 1/0 (0.5) CRR: 1.2
Chennai opt to bowl

Rayadu is a pathetic fielder. This guy will make costly field mistakes if he gets selected in the squad.

Mohit Sharma still getting IPL gigs is a mystery. This guy is a certified trundler and his batting and fielding are mediocre.

Krunal wasted a lot of deliveries. He is not a power hitter. He should have started hitting from over number 13 or 14. They left the big hitting a bit too later.

MI need at least 160 to compete here. They are on track to fall way short.

Hardik and Pollard drag to a respectable total. This is defendable if Bumrah can produce a magic spell at the top.

He is much better than Unadkat. How this Unadkat guy gets picked up for so much money?

Situation has changed brother , Pandaya changed the equation

We need to drop Yuvi. I love the man but he has slowed down. Bat speed is not what it used to be and there no real passion left. Bring in Ishan Kishan. It also opens up possibility of dropping QdK for Lewis.
