New Zealand (402 & 110/2) secure a comprehensive 8 wicket win against India (46 & 462) in the first Test to lead the 3-match series 1-0

Dont worry, when Indians come out to bat, rains will appear, it will get cloudy, batting conditions will again get treacherous. It wll be nice and sunny as long as NZ continue to bat.
 
Good that we are tonked in this test series. May just keep feet of our prima donnas firmly on ground. May augur well for the Australia tour.

Initially I thought he was special but I am not so sure.

He struggled to put bat on ball in South Africa, had an ok series in Aus and below avg in Eng.

I think he has those genes of the sub continent bats struggle against pace and bounce.

Next 5 years will give a clearer picture.

Ravindra has played an outstanding knock. His assurance and confidence against spin is remarkable for someone this young and at the start of his test career. Though it definitely helps that Southee is attacking from the other end.

This partnership has won the game for New Zealand unless rain intervenes.

New Zealand took 58 off the last four overs before lunch. Its very rare to see Indian bowlers struggling to stop the flow of boundaries in India.

Nah not really, this came down to making that fatal decision to bat when it was full of clouds, moist wicket which made mediocre Nz bowlers hit the jackpot.

Had Nz batted first this same outcome wouldve happened but only that Indians would be in the driving seat.


This is just nature of the game NZ got lucky with the toss and deserve to win this match...

But a class batting unit should not be all out under 50 against a "mediocre" bowling attack no matter how the conditions are
 
what happens to India every first test of every series? Don't they practice their batting before the series?

Australia was bowled out for 47 in Cape Town...


Happens part of the game... When the wicket is doing a lot it is no longer about a bowlers talent. The wicket & weather did almost all the work..

Why would I need to show any stats? Did I say NZ bowling was not mediocre? I just said a class batting unit should not be out under 50 against a "mediocre" bowling unit. India previously was out for 36 but that Ozzie attack was anything but mediocre

NZ management know how to handle a Hindu Batsman and when to boot him out! Hindus have good batsmen, but at the same time they also have crooked politicians surrounding them! They bother about commercial ads/sponsorships more than results (winning games). One may think Rohit's team won a T20 cup, but with a proper team, we would have won 2 WTC, 2 or 3 World Cups, last England & last 2 south africa away test series, and winning T20 world cups would have been customary! Alas we should feel happy only for that lone T20 World cup!

Agree with this.

You'd find quite a few of those gullibles here too. They think we've done something earth shattering winning the last T20 WC. As you wrote, with the amount of talent at our disposal we could have and should have won many more trophies than what we have done over last decade or so.

Just knew Rachin was going to go big in India. The kid is something special alright!

Elite mindset from NZ as well. Southee utterly livid with himself when he got out even with such a huge lead. Was very easy to have a wry smile considering the situation but they wanted to make sure they bat only once.

Test is supreme. Can never lose series at home.

Away Test wins matter more than world cups. Home Test wins Is also very important. Just under odi and t20 world cups.
 
Can any batter show character to pull of VVS Laxman here? That won't be enough though, someone will have to pull a Dravid too. This innings will show if India is a really champion side or not

Always loved Rachin and even before the series had a belief that he'll be the MVP for the NZ team.
This is coming from an Indian so not all Indians are same and there are exceptions who value cricket over nationalities
