New Zealand defeat Bangladesh by 77 runs in the 1st ODI

Tbh Bangladesh hasn't bowled well today.

It seems that players are struggling to find their lengths. Happens when you don't play much in these conditions.

Absolutely right. They r giving one or two freebies in every single over.

Now a dropped catch..... LOL

Fizz is slow in the outfield. His fielding improved in the IPL but looks like the layoff has undone the good work.

NZ lower order is loaded with lefties to tackle Fizz. Not a bad idea. Fizz is more lethal against right handed batsman.

No offense but the crowd is boring. Full house and it feels like there is barely 1000 people there. 1000 subcontinental fans create a more exciting atmosphere than this.

Come-on folks make some noise. Cheer for the NZ team. Scream. Clap hard.

not their fault the standard of cricket is meh, if McCullum, Guptill, Anderson or Ryder were there, they probably would be more into it.

I am in the ground, indeed its boring. There are quite a few Bangladeshi fans, not sure why they are so quiet.

So the standard of cricket is meh but that doesn't mean they should be mute. Came here to watch the cricket so need to enjoy it fully

Bangladesh not playing all that well and probably the fans are small in number.

If it was India then there would be around 1k Indians in the stadium and they would gang up and make noise

Its just the nature if NZ sports fans. We never make much noise. They will get more vocal as the alchohol accumulates.

First time I've ever watched this Fizz bloke bowl.

But he's just a medium pacer. I don't get the fuss. Why is he famous?

He's barely tall enough for international cricket, gets no bounce and has no pace.

He can cut the odd ball, but he seems to be a bit like Derek Underwood.

Watching a match in new Zealand after some time. World cup had some vocal folks.

I have seen kiwis being much more stoic in a sense. Even the players don't seem to celebrate much barring likes of Neil Wagner and Mcleneghan whom I like.

Personally I would like to see more passion

On these flat wickets Bangladesh will struggle. No matter the flatness of the wicket we don't have the firepower to chase anything over 325.

We play a lot on slow wickets where scoring 320 means something huge. Here the boundaries are short and the bounce is true.

Also don't have any clue why our bowlers are bowling short. These are kiwi batsman not subcontinental batsman. These people grew up playing short ball

Bangladesh will want to get Munro as soon as they can here he can be very dangerous at the death.

Surprised by the score, don't know whether the batsmen have turned a corner or if this Bangladeshi bowling just isn't good.

While most nz grounds have small boundaries this ground is pretty big.

Latham has been excellent and ive never been a big fan of him im ODIs.

Its a good batting deck and bang have bowled decently aside from taskin who is dishing up freebies.

Apart from height & pace there are few skills in cricket that can make a bowler lethal, even on flattest of wickets - for example, you can watch archives of recent Chennai Test. He is famous for maintaining ODI average of 12 after 25+ wickets & having few 4 fors against top sides.

Should get 350.

Latham showing he has a very good fourth gear.

Latham's fourth six!!!

Yeh kia ho raha hai? MMHS

Par for the course - these days, you don't win ODI by bowling or even batting. Teams start to slog from ball one - either it ends at 350 & the chasing side will collapse under scoreboard pressure, or batting first you collapse for 250 to lose it inside 40 overs. Can't recall when last I have seen a close ODI - may be the 2nd ODI between IND-NZ. This happens when you try to increase excitement artificially, like using recreation drags.

But, I think boys will give a good fight today.

Agreed.

ODI's from 1996 to 2011.
General pattern was to start normally and deaccelerate unnecessarily and then slog in death.

T20 mindset and 2 new balls have killed ODI's.

God Ronchi is bad.

He must be averaging single digits since that big 100 against SL.

Literally fails 99.99% of the time.

More than that is the size of boundary. These days players know that they can get away with top edges hence go for their lofted shots. Many of the Sixes these days will clear even the Aussie grounds of 80s (those days, there was no rope, you have to send it to crowd to hit a six) with modern bats, but that extra confidence gives batmen license to break free. For example, recently PAK-ENG T20 at Manchester was played on a surprisingly larger grounds & PAK bowlers kept bowling short - none of the English players went for lofted shots; these same batsmen blasted 444 in a 60 metre Nottingham ground.

This has again made the game imbalance - once you have a good start & wickets at hand, you will reach 350+ by taking chances, but if couple of those ends in hand early stages of an innings it's going to back fire - either way, most ODI matches are boring these days.

T20s are even more boring, I can tell the result correctly after 10 overs of a 40 overs match almost at about 95% accuracy level; but what happens is, in a short game mathematically you are always in the game - like 35 runs in last over. Make that T20 in to T10, Ireland - AUS match will be mathematically alive till last 2 overs.

Devaluation of boundary is really frustrating. I once hit a almost Ranji bowler for a six and had to give celebration parties to friends for a week. These days even the Fantom level batters can hit sixes.

BD has beaten top ODI teams in recent past so with these short boundaries 341 shouldn't be any issue. It's like chasing 250-260 in BD.

What a horrible review, he's mad about that? Hot spot had him out and the ball clearly changed direction once it hit the bat :)))

Bangladesh have not looked good at all here, they should be doing much better against this NZ side.

MMHS why is BD playing ODI like Pak? :yk

They actually trying to score - it's not Azhar style for sure. Kiwis are bowling really well here. However, 43 in 10 overs, is not really PAK like - business usual, it's 30/1 ........

They're struggling to get the ball off the square.. a lot of the runs have come off edges and mistimed strokes..

What a soft dismissal... they're struggling with the pace and bounce here..

Mamadullah, Rahim and Iqbal are the 3 Bangladeshi batsmen I rate, need to get these 3 and this should be done.

Two for Neesham.

Commies are right though, Neesham is capable of bowling 140 (could get it to 145 if he pushed himself) but he doesn't to preserve himself.

This could be over quick, hope it's the case too...

I want to watch the Aus-Pak Test but my brother has it on this..

As expected our batsmen and bowlers are struggling in these conditions.

We need more match practice abroad

Struggling is an understatement... these boys don't even look club standard..

Pathetic effort with the bat, I can't think of a touring side who has looked more out their depth.

Even if we don't bowl you out, I think we will manage to win this by 100+ runs easy.

100+ margin isn't that big these days, you know for a reason. But, yes boys should have batted better.

How are you not furious with this? Are you watching the game?

Plays and misses, mistimed strokes to fielders, edges going to the boundary and the ball rarely getting off the square while the run rate is approaching 10...

It's difficult for Asian players to adjust the bounce so early, and opposite is also true; because of tight schedules, every touring team struggles in away tours. And the game has gone into a level that, you don't get tight matches these days - it's mostly floodgate. Same Kiwi bowlers will struggle to adjust their length in Asian tours for first few matches.
