New Zealand fight back on Day 2 against Pakistan, 56/1 in second innings after limiting lead to 74

Two late wickets on Day 1 have given some hope to New Zealand for Day 2.

Pakistan ended the day on 59/2 after bowling out New Zealand for 153.

Can Haris Sohail and Azhar Ali defy the New Zealand bowlers and push Pakistan towards comfort?
 
Pakistan's day. Excellent start for them.

NZ as usual just not good enough. Except Kane and Ross, hard to really depend on anyone else.
 
New zealand will be looking to get rid of the night watchmen early (Azhar) then try and make inroads into out batting. Hopefully sohail can get runs with rest of our main batsmen and we can get a big lead.
 
Was watching the highlights of today's days play (because that's how I watch test cricket) and at the end of the NZ innings Yasir Shah and Harris Sohail are walking off together and you can see both of them with massive bulging bellies under their jerseys. Sharam ka muqaam hai. For a guy like Harry who has lost a good 3-4 years of his career due to injury and that too on his knee you would think that being in top notch condition would be top priority to remain fit and also not put pressure on knees.
 
Score 300 and this one is done and dusted. Consider it 1-0 to us already after another good bowling performance. Down to the batsmen now.

Some people just have a naturally thicker body, it doesn't mean they're not fit.

I think people get a bit overboard with the whole fitness thing, they don't need to be fit like they're running marathons, they just need to be cricket fit.
 
Any of you guys hearing the weird sound in the background? Or is it just me? Sounds like a bird cooing and its pretty annoying
 
Azhar still not looking comfortable. He's played nearly 70 deliveries..
 
Azhar Ali looks so vulnerable on the crease. He has played over 70 deliveries. Still not comfortable.
 
Azhar should only play if he is opening. If he doesn't open , he should be dropped. Number 3 is the worst places to bat him. Number 3 needs to be dynamic and be able to move the game forward. Azhar is the opposite of this.
 
Why is even Bilal Asif playing in this side? His bowling is not-so-threatning and batting is also awful. Need to give the new guys Saad Ali a go in the next match.
 
I am thoroughly convinced now that Azhar Ali is a way below par batsman. Hard to believe we dont have better test batsmen in pakistan. He is shockingly limited!!
 
Azhar was finished a year ago. I was personally done with him after the first Test vs Sri Lanka (biggest culprit), and I cannot stress enough on how he absolutely needs to go. Yes you can hide him as an opener for the time being, but that is only a temporarily situation.

Chuck him out and replace him with a 35 averaging batsman who can strike at 50. Surely, we can find such a player in F/C. He literally adds nothing to the team.
 
He is in a bad place right now, mentally. You can tell he is having trouble just holding the bat..
 
Azhar has had a charmed life so far. Should buy a lottery ticket during the lunch interval.
 
Haris is on the other hand looks very solid. The pitch is not batting friendly at all. Its just day 2 and already seaming and turning. Haris just needs to lose a bit of weight. He looks lazy at times.
 
Lahol wala.. jo solid tha wo out ho gaya and the one who looks like getting out every ball is still there.. cricket is a cruel game, no doubt!!!
 
Just watch.. asad shafiq wont survive long.. he cant bat with someone like azhar on the other end... :(
 
Scratchy innings from Azhar comes to an end and now New Zealand will be switched on.

I wouldn't put it past Babar or Shafiq to succumb to the pressure and give NZ a third wicket within the next 2-3 overs.
 
A switched on Boult is not going to be easy to handle. If he gets another in this spell he may run through our team and we may be 160-170 all out
 
Haris Wicket is the turning point in this game. He was looking solid and was eyeing for a big hundred but a soft dismissal is going to cost us

Asad doesnt handle pressure well. He plays best when the other guy takes the lead.. with babar there, there is a better chance he will score as compared to azhar..
 
Pakistan need contributions from everyone , 30 - 40 runs partnerships here will get them a good lead
 
If i were mickey arthur or selector, i wont pick him for SA.. lungi, rabada, steyn will have him for breakfast, lunch and dinner
 
If Babar lasts through this spell from Boult I see him getting a 70+ score here.
 
I will never agree to the opinion that you can't score are 3 rpo at the very least in the UAE. It's easy and very possible. All you need is good intent and a decent technique. That is all. Williamson was playing at about 60 SR without any fuss. India on these tracks would play at 3.5 rpo for sure.

The problem is teams have built this in their mindset thay UAE is difficult place top score. It's definitely not.

It's only understandable for the non asian teams to have that mindset due to their inability to play spin well. We should have no such problems which makes it all the more frustrating to see Azhar batting like a tailender
