Fakhar Zaman should be given a game.

1954 – MATCH DRAWN

Batsmen on both sides prospered as Pakistan visited Wantage Road for the first time. Peter Arnold, Jock Livingston, Des Barrick and George Tribe all passed 70 for Northamptonshire but the tourists were able to claim a small first-innings lead before time ran out – left-arm spinner Jack Manning picking up three wickets on his County debut.

1962 – MATCH DRAWN

Set 175 to win in two hours by skipper Keith Andrew, Pakistan settled for the draw after losing four early wickets – three of them to Brian Crump. Saeed Ahmed (112) and Javed Burki (97) shone for the visitors while Brian Reynolds, the Watts brothers, Jim and Peter, and Roger Prideaux all made useful runs for Northamptonshire.

1971 – NORTHAMPTONSHIRE WON BY 6 WICKETS

South African Hylton Ackerman starred for the County with a first-innings century while Mushtaq Mohammad – turning out for Northamptonshire – contributed runs and wickets against his countrymen. Alan Hodgson and Peter Willey caused problems in Pakistan’s second knock and the hosts knocked off 158 for victory thanks to George Sharp and David Steele.

1974 – MATCH DRAWN

Rain ruined the match with no play possible on the second or third days. Alan Hodgson and John Dye snapped up an early wicket apiece for Northamptonshire before Sadiq Mohammad and Zaheer Abbas steered Pakistan to 145-2. Nothing more could be done.

1978 – MATCH DRAWN

David Steele’s gritty knock of 86 in four-and-a-half hours earned the County a first-innings lead after Pakistan collapsed from 148-2 to 190 all out on the opening day. In a wet spring the tourists opted for batting practice in their second innings rather than making a game of it – Allan Lamb picking up a rare first-class wicket by dismissing Wasim Bari!

1987 – MATCH DRAWN

Northamptonshire took the fixture to Manor Fields in Bletchley but after a fortnight’s heavy rain conditions were far from ideal. Mudassar Nazar enjoyed an excellent match for Pakistan, hitting 72 and claiming five first-innings wickets. Set 287 to win, the County clung on thanks to determined batting from David Ripley and Duncan Wild.

1992 – PAKISTAN WON BY 7 WICKETS

Pakistan’s first victory over Northamptonshire owed much to the pace of Wasim Akram who returned match figures of 10-117. David Ripley batted well in both innings – 45 not out and 64 – and his 80-run stand with Andy Roberts in the second knock prevented a total rout. Ramiz Raja and Shoaib Mohammad contributed fifties for the tourists.

1996 – MATCH DRAWN

Centuries from openers Richard Montgomerie (168) and Alan Fordham (144) helped set up an interesting finish with Pakistan left to chase 226 in 33 overs by Rob Bailey’s declaration. Moin Khan smashed 39 off 23 balls but they closed 21 short with eight wickets down. Wasim Akram helped himself to another five-wicket haul and Shadab Kabir was dismissed by David Capel for 99.

2006 – PAKISTAN WON BY 7 WICKETS

Stephen Peters hit a first-day hundred for Northamptonshire and seamer David Wigley posted a five-wicket haul, but the match was decided on day two as the County slumped to 43-5 and 140 all out in their second innings against Shahid Nazir and Iftikhar Anjum. Pakistan reached their target of 160 comfortably enough with two sessions to spare.

Northamptonshire came third in Division Two last year. Their highest score so far in the Championship season is 218.

Guys is this a List A match or a practice math (can they retire, swap players?)

Good to see Rana playing.

Where’s Fakhar :livid:

Why is Hasan on the bench

Any evidence or are you just guessing?
He was the only fast bowler that was threatening last game; it would be hard to imagine he hasn’t booked a spot.

There’s a reason why they are going in with 4 fast bowlers in this game, and that’s to find the best 2 or 3 that can accompany Hasan.

Having a bowling strike rate of 90 against Division 2 team and looking threatening?

It doesn't matter if he is beating the outside edges but not getting results or does it?

They wanted 4 fast bowlers with 2 being right arm pacers and 2 left arm ones and thus had to leave Hasan out to strengthen their batting and giving practice to Abbas.

Looking forward to this. Good idea to rest Hassan. He is guaranteed to play in almost all games, no point in playing him here.

Very surprised at exclusion of Fakhar Zaman.

Mickey has never been fussed about whether the fast bowlers in the XI are right armers or left armers, IIRC he played three left arm seamers in the playing XI for a couple of tests last year. Why the change now?

Amir hasn’t produced results for two years in test cricket, that’s why people don’t give a hoot about how much times he beats the bat. They know that those results ain’t going to come.

Hasan doesn’t have a history of only looking threatening for two overs and bowling drivel for the rest of an innings; and has a proven track record of being a wicket taker. It would be a selection blunder not to play him.

Doesnt have relatives in the PCB or match the nepotism criteria to meet the nepotism quota in the team.

Its clearly obvious certain players have been ear marked for starting 11 no matter what.

Dont expect Saad or Usman to get a game on this tour, usual excuse of not throwing inexperienced players into side in such a tough series will be made as an excuse at somepoint during ireland or england tests.

Live streaming of the match has been added to OP.

Why Micky persist with Amir!!! If can't get wickets early morning against these batsmen what he will do against Ireland or England? Shafiq is another failure.
Too many passengers in the team.

Rahat ALi bowling with no plan at all.Wahat a loser.Fahim looks to be better than the two of Rahat and AMir.

Come on dammit this is a Division 2 team we're bowling at in early May. Our bowling has been toothless in the brief glimpses we've seen so far this tour.

Extremely worrying. More so than the batting which should hopefully improve with more match practice.

Just tuned in and gotta say Amir is looking pretty good in the 30th over. Pitching up and looking pretty threatening.

Amir just needs to keep bowling nice and full to encourage the batsmen to drive.

I don’t think he’s doing much wrong.

7. Shadab
8. Amir
9. Hasan
10. Rahat
11. Abbas

....is my Test bowling attack.

But Amir, Hasan And Shadab need to understand that they have a responsibility to survive 40+ balls as batsmen in EVERY innings - I don’t just want Hasan Ali slogging 20 off 10 balls then getting out having taken the score from 180-7 to 205-8.

I want Shadab to take the score from 160-5 to 190-6 between the 50th and 60th over.

I want Amir to take the score from 200-6 to 230-7 between the 60th and 70th over.

I want Hasan Ali to take the score from 230-7 after 70 overs to 270-8 when the second new ball comes at 80 overs.

Pakistan’s top order is mediocre, so batsmen 6-9 need to score almost as many runs outside Asia as the top order.

do you think Faheem can be played in place of ABBAS.??

@ Junaid, Should Sadaf replace Amir? He is looking the weakest link in our bowling. Even Sadab is capable to take wickets

Shadab showing the pacers up. Northants spooked by spin.

I guess the good news is that both Cook and Root got out for ducks today. And Bairstow only made 7.

And if our neighbors want to know, Pujara continues his glorious run in England with a well made 9 :salute

Faheem getting some good swing

Better if it swings before it's gone past the batsman :ashwin

Should watch The Rahat for tips :rahat1

But he scored more than the ducks made by Root and Cook and the 7 made by Bairstow. Pujara > Englands best 3 :srini

I must say the quality of the stream is excellent. PTV sports should just hire these cameras for domestic cricket.

Ireland and Afghanistan set to win their first test matches :p

Trundler abbas wicketless so far. Wahab riaz would have been selected instead of this trundler.

This is absolute garbage bowling from Pakistan. Amir, Abbas, and Fahim have been pathetic. Amir especially looks absolutely uninterested and just running in without a a plan. Seriously why wasn't Mir Hamza selected? He is an ideal swing bowler for these conditions and at least he would giving his wholehearted effort unlike Amir.

Our Test bowling is Yasir or bust.

When I said the exact same thing in the "Yasir is injured" thread all posters including you said spinner is useless in England in "early summer"

Fahim has bowled well, got some swing, a few edges and a dropped catch of his bowling.

5 wickets for Shadab :warne

Pak should play 2 spinners against England. Their seamers seem to be toothless.

Faheem has been the best pacer after Rahat.

6 wickets on Day 1 is a great return for and spinner. Any extended video of the spell?

7/94 for spinners and 2/149 for seamers. Not sure what to make of that.

Pacers bowled wrong line length, which wasn't penetrative enough, but economic - batsmen went after the leggi, hence 6 for 77, but economy over 4.

Wicket is good for batting - no reason why PAK shouldn't post 450 in 1st outing.

Ball was moving. Here we are talking about county team, not a single well known batsman in that lineup.

That's due to his occasional bad balls, they weren't really going after him, majority of his wickets were the inability to pick his googly

If the wicket is good for batting, then does it mean that these northants' batsmen are weak against spin? Kent batsmen seemed to have no problems against Shadab.
