What's new

Pakistan [428 & 134/1] beat Northamptonshire [259 & 301] by nine wickets in tour match

It really is a matter of selection, get the right players in for right formats on merit and it will show.

Yes, especially in test cricket. But in ODI I think our core is pretty good. But yea a few adjustment especially at the top would do us a world of good.

If they can bench Sami why not do the same to Babar? Yet another tour and superior youngsters in Saad & Usman will rot on the bench in favor of coach's chaheetays!

Has Hari gaimed 20KG extra during off season or he is wearing double jumper under his shirt?

That guy at slip can barely walk, if you can call it that, more like waddling.

I know it is frustrating to see the players bat at snail pace against a Div 2 side but the aim is to get time in the middle and not worry about RR since it is a PRACTICE match. Even after the Ireland Test we have Leicestershire to play. We are playing as many practice matches as Tests so we have no excuses for the England Tests but until then we should be patient with the batsmen. So Fakhar, Usman and Saad should all get a chance against Leics and one of them may even get thrown in for the Ireland Test.

It is a bit different with bowlers and they should be looking threatening as they are Intl. standard against Div 2 county standard so this performance against Northants has been disappointing from them. Shadab shouldn't be the strike bowler but our seamers look a bit clueless (Mainly Amir) so he had to take that role at the cost of being expensive.

Leicestershire didn't win a CC game all year last year and have only won since 6/80 games since 2013 in CC so I am expecting the bowlers to fire in this game and batsmen to look comfortable.

Haris must make this count to get among the runs and form ahead of official games ... should look to get 150+

It's not just about playing against Div 2, we are generally like this because of playing snails in the line up while stroke players with higher FC avgs rot on the bench.

They are spending time in middle, which is good; RR doesn't matter much here. PAK should declare after 6 down, so that top order can get one more outing in 2nd innings.

Amir bowled well, but haven't fixed his radar yet. In UK,often bowlers get excited with the movement, but unless they make batsmen play enough, won't get wicket.

The crying and general pessimism in this thread had me believing the scorecard was something like 85/6 when actuality its 180/3.

Fans need to relax!

Good to see Babar accelerating. Hitting yourself into form is always an option when nothing else is working.

Babar is a much better player when he plays his shots. So far he’s been approaching test cricket like Azhar Ali.

Problem for Hari is his fitness - after batting 2/3 hours, he gets tiered and find a way to get out (throws his wicket). A similar problem of IuH, but Ul Haq was supremely talented, hence once did hit a triple (but still number of 150+ scores are too low for his class and his ODI conversion is worse than any player of similar stats). At 29, if this is Hari's best, I am afraid he won't last more than 2/3 years with this fitness.

Good stuff from the middle order. Openers deserve a slap - these are good batting conditions.

I reckon we will get similar conditions in Lords so Shadab should fancy his chances.

Shadab is in after Faheem's not so special show.

Team against Ireland is pretty much confirmed except for the fact if Mickey will go for an extra batsman or the allrounder.

All this while link was available and I was following on cricinfo

What do you mean? Faheem was probably the best pacer on show after Rahat.

Hasn’t batted yet either.

OP means 'opening post', the very first post of this thread has youtube link that works!!

Well done Asad Shafiq. Need him to lead from the front as a senior. After seven years of investment we need to see consistency.

Well played Asad. I’m not a fan but he will definitely play all 3 test matches so we need him in form.

To be honest babaar does not deserve to be in Test XI , its injustice to others who have been performing in first class. Babaar on the basis of talent has been given enough opportunity , now others need to be considered.

Babar reached his limit of concentration span - 83 minutes & 72 balls. And, get's out to an offie, probably his last over before 2nd ball. This is Northants, therefore won't cost much, but against Poms, if your set batsman gets out last over before 2nd ball, from 287/3, PAK'll end 343 all out against Jimmy & Berbi.

And, probably 50th time, some how Sarfraz comes to bat exactly when 2nd ball is around!!!!

Two batsmen fifty and out. We're gonna badly miss Younis Khan's conversion ability.

Looks like 343 against Northants is becoming a challenge - all this because, set batsman got out to an offie last over before 2nd ball; Asad is still there at one end.

The only people who should be under spotlight are azhar Shafiq and sarfraz

The youngsters need to be given time

Shafiq has found some form

The worry atm is azhar and the captain to get in some sort of nick

They will need to play an extra batsman ... Ideally I would replace Imam and Babar with Fakhar and Saad but will have to settle for just 1 change in place of Shadab or Faheem as this team can't afford to play two all-rounders in an inexperienced line up.

I would play both all rounders and hope more batting time in the middle will help them out. Our bowling is too toothless so we need to play 5 bowlers.

Actual weakness is Captain, certain blocks might not agree. He isn't good enough to bat at 6 (I know, his Test average is ~40), he keeps worse than what Mark Taylor would do from 1st slip and he doesn't score quickly enough to bat with tail at 7. If he he was batting decent, then Shadab & Fahim at 7, 8, backed by Amir, Hasan & Rahat makes a decent bottom half and PAK could have gone with 5 batsmen. Now, team'll need an extra batsman to cover for Captain's batting and an extra slip fielder to cover the leg side fine edges.

solid day - should give much needed confidence to the middle order

I was expecting a little more for the the lower middle order (Sarf, Shadab, Faheem)

hopefully Shafiq can get to his double tomorrow and add another 150 runs to the lead.. should give the bowlers over a day to get more match practice

I would declare. Give the bowlers another opportunity to bowl them out and the top order another opportunity when chasing down whatever total we get.

It's a 4 day game, not 3. PAK can bat till tea, and still enough time for 120 overs, unless it rains.

If we do that, it is unlikely that the top order will get a chance to bat again. I'm not bothered about the result. If we declare now, both bowlers and batsmen get more game time.

Pak captain is NOT in good nick!

For a long time now, ever since he became captain.

Interested to know how many fifties he made after he become the captain across all formats.

I still continue to say he is not the right choice as a captain for tests. Azhar Ali was more deserving as a test captain but given captaincy in the wrong format and they are doing the same with sarfraz here again.

True, that was my idea as well - I actually wrote that PAK should declare after 6 down. But, now Asad is still there, and he should be given as much time to bat - PAK should declare once he is out.
