What's new

Pakistan [428 & 134/1] beat Northamptonshire [259 & 301] by nine wickets in tour match

Hopefully Babar and Haris have good conversion rates this series. Worried about our pacers though, barring Hasan of course.

No matter what people say but Azhar, Sarfraz are and have been key for Pak. Them not looking good at the crease is a concern.

I really hope Azhar gets a fifty not out in the second innings.

Just hope Harry's knees hold up - class batsman.

Again the openers have failed. Without Asad and Haris we would be struggling to get a good score. No consistency amongst the batting line up. Imam-ul-Haq does not look of international quality to me.

Asad has hit his 100 to secure his spot. I bet he will smash Ireland as well before failing non stop agasint England

Good innings by Asad, Haris and Babar. Top order concerns remain but middle order is looking in good form. Wouldn't be too worried about Azhar though. The guy has scored runs against all sorts of oppositions and has come out of rough patches in form several times.

Whoever is doing the radio commentary seems to not like Pakistan cricket team that very much.

Amir swinging it at full length and looking threatening. Just needs to get closer to stumps

Where are the wickets with the new ball?

Our pacers want shadab to carry them through this series it seems.

He's had enough now. Given as much chance as he could to Amir and co. Now he's going to end this fast :rahat

Management should ask for Sadaf. If Amir fail in the first test Sadaf should play rest of the games

Fahim bowls a beautiful line at good pace, unfortunately can't swing or seam the ball though.

PAK should give Asad, Azhar & Hari lots of overs, so that Northants can post 300+ and PAK openers has one more outing. No point finishing a 4 Day practice game in 3 days.

@ MMHS, Do you think Amir has any future in test cricket? Should he play test against England? He seems to be worse than any of our bowler.

But we all know the wonders Amir can produce in the month of Ramadan in England.

As soon as :rahat1 garbage takes wicket, everyone starts appreciating the 40 average bowler.

But when Abbas, the 21 average guy takes wicket, no comments. #NoLoveForTrundlers

Should definitely play all 3 Tests, because there are not many alternates. I saw a bit of Sadaf Hussain this time, and if this is what PAK has at bench, then Amir might still be playing for 10 more years at his 60% out put!!!

How long he can play Test cricket is a question mark indeed - he isn't interested in Test cricket much, neither PCB; it might happen than PCB will start to preserve him for all important T20 bilateral instead of few Test matches that's PAK is forced to play here & there. Considering this ENG tour, I would have rested Amir & Hasan for those three jokes against WI, for an example.

Anther wicket for Rahat, I think he has booked his spot for the match.

Who's not going to play though as a result of Rahat inclusion. Hasan Ali outperformed Rahat in the match they both played. Abbas has done well in tests of late and has been our best test bowler. Amir hasn't done well in tests, and also did worse in the practice tests, but it seems Mickey backs him, and he has the most experience in English tests.

It's a tough one. I think they'll drop Abbas but I don't think that's fair.

So far, Amir wicketless against a second division second XI in the second innings as well.

Ultimately his performance in the Tests matters, but it's getting harder to be an Amir supporter in Tests.

I am getting very frustrated with Amir because he has the ability as we have seen in the past. The clock is ticking for him.

As for the selection between Rahat and Abbas, I think we will go with Rahat for two reasons. One, he picked up a few wickets today (which is no achievement) and the other being the balance between right and left handed pacers. With Faheem, Amir, Hasan and Rahat, you get a variety of angles which wouldn't happen with Abbas instead of Rahat. However, despite this, I would still take Abbas over Rahat as he can at least keep it quite if not take wickets unlike Rahat.

One thing all Pakistanis detest are trundlers.

I like Abbas but he's the antithesis of everything related to Pakistani fast bowling.

Pitch is outstanding for batting.

Lords is going to be flat and dry even in late May.

I would take Shadab+3 pacers.

No need for a fifth bowler.

Northants are second division but this isn't their second team at all. A strong line up.

Most annoying thing of the day were the Pakistani fans who came into the hospitality area.

Shadab Khan at end of today's play

"First of all, I would like to thank the Almighty, that even under such conditions I am bowling so well"

"This is early season (summer) and it's difficult to grip the ball"

"If given the chance, I would like to fill the gap left by Yasir Shah who is a great bowler"

"Today's conditions were good as it was warm and the ball was gripping also"

"It was very difficult in the first warm-up game as the weather was not good and it was difficult to grip the ball"

"We will try and get them out as soon as possible and then chase the lowest possible score"

LOL @ Sami Aslam. Pathetic. Is even fatter then the akmal brothers combined.

What is he even doing there?!?!

I would really like to look into the stats of Sami Aslam. The impression I have is that he has brought absolutely nothing to the table.

Sami Aslam may be horribly out of form but he was a key member in our draw with England last year, maybe even turning point when he can in to replace Hafeez. Saw him live on 2 occasions at Lord's and Oval and he was impressive...

Now its turned into a sauna here in the UK - hoping that plays into our hands and we get dry, flat pitches !

Someone give amir another spell and tell him if he wants to play test match grab next 3 wickets. Otherwise nor more franchise leagues.

Really really disappointed with Amir!!!!! Unfortunately he got so much privileged and no intend to prove himself. All our bowlers perform better than him barring Fahim. I think Mickey should bench him for the test against Ireland and play Hasan, Rahat, Abbas and Sadab. Debue one of Saad or Usman. Don't need another timid player like Sami.

Don't care about Pakistani fast bowling legacy if a trundler is maintaining his bowling average in low 20s and doing better than other pacers who are faster than him.

My sentiments exactly.

But he’s not going to be as popular as say Hasan Ali.

Imam is 8 off 23.

Haris is 26 off 23.

Difference in class is apparent.

Fazul player Imam showing exactly why he needed mamoo jaan's help to get to the side. Gully mohallah level hogging someone else's spot. Ran out our best player and then is hardly able to score a run.

Don’t be jealous.

Imam has scored a 50 in the last match when others couldn’t do jack.

Imamul giving phainty to Northants bowlers.

A good win for Pak ahead of Irish Test. Pak should comfortably defeat Irish.

If we lose a wicket we should send Shadab to bat.

Haris on track.
Pak batting has historically struggled against the seam, swing and he is The Key for us in winning the series.

Come on Harry!

Imam runs out and goes for a big hit, runs straight past the ball. Stumping chance missed by wicketkeeper

The more I see haris bat the more annoyed I get due to the fact that we have wasted so many years of his. This guy is on another level in comparison to our other batsmens.

Don't see Haris batting at 3 in English conditions or playing only 5 batters. Sami would have to come in. Otherwise go with Zaman perhaps but he has played no cricket on tour and is risky.

On the bowling side - I said all the way back in 2010 that biggest loss from the dirty 3 would be Asif. Left arm pacers like Amir we could pluck from almost any village in the NW. However Glen McGrath type bowler we rarely produce. If Abbas is the antithesis of the "Pakistani bowling DNA" then I for one would be very happy.

Usman or Saad should come in as 6th batsman..

Wow to Imam for answering all his critics. Great game for Shadab and the pacers. Two issues remain. Where does Fakhar Zaman fit in? Amir went wicketless.

Fair but a bit risky with players like Haris & Babar in the top 5. Really needed Azhar to be in form and for Sami to make a case.
Good that Imam took his chances on tour really well.
