Pakistan bowled out for 297 at Stumps on Day 1 of 2nd Test against New Zealand

You never know what a spinner can bring, being a different challenge compared to pace bowlers.

Jamieson on now.

Sure and I hope Zafar turns out to be a solid find today. However, in such conditions I would have gone with an all pace attack unless I knew my spinner was good enough for all conditions.

Given I have handed a debut by dropping my premier spinner, I have communicated the following two points:

- Premier bowler not good enough
- Replace with spinner as feel like a spinner must be played regardless

However, as the replacement is a debutant, by definition it means that we cannot know if he is an all condition trump card which is what I was referring to above. Hope it works out though! Would solve at least one of the many headaches.

He is definitely not a limited overs batsman. If he’s gonna play a format it has to be this

I'm not convinced, his average is relatively high only because he scored against SL at home. You're better off with Imran Butt, Imam type players. Saud Shakeel should also come in.

Cant think of any pacer in recent times with as good a start to his career as Jamieson. Averaging 14 in first 5 matches with 25 wickets till now.

Exceeded expectations so far.

Good battling batting.

He is yet to tour away, but he is a quality bowler. He will be a really good bowler in the coming years.

Abid ali to be fair with all the criticism is a very beautiful strokeplayer

Putting my little batting cap on...

I would try to bat out of the crease to Jamieson and negate the LBW. Keep leaving anything else unless he asks you to pull

I still think he will struggle on less helpful pitches specially in Asia.

Need to play with soft hands, no need to push hard.

I'd tell Abid to do that, but Jamieson can bounce him out from that range as well. Should move around in the crease and get him to mix his length and dispatch anything.

One big score from top 4 would be really helpful

Spinners will come into play. We are bowling this time during the 4th innings...

I get that and hopefully Zafar comes good. But isn’t the team submitted prior to the toss? Which means that regardless of bowling or batting first they had decided to play Zafar.

Lets push for 500.

All depends on this partnership. And also what the pitch looks like. It looks a green wicket, but we don't know how it will age. It hasn't seamed today, and that's good for posting a large total.

Azhar needs to cut out fancy cover drives here

Yeah Abid is suspect of being two minded on short balls. He’s looking good today tbh

After this break, we need to stay disciplined. We cannot let NZ take a wicket in this session. It will be a hard fight, but we need to try our best. If both of these batsmen go big, we can pile the runs.

Drinks break:

Bit streaky but also some good shots to put away the bad balls.

Personally much prefer this approach in these kind of conditions (unless there are glaring errors in technique on the most obvious of shots in which case it looks like a gamble). Sooner or later one jaffa will come your way so better to play some cricketing shots.

Atleast not the start we all feared, when was last time we scoree 43 in first 14 in SENA.

He is looking good, but we need to make sure that these two hang in thete. I think Abid is gonna go big.

Matt Henry will try to bring that average of 50 down today..

Pakistan need to score runs against Henry here. It will be fundamental.

MashAllah great batting and strong defense and attacking any opportunities presented. Shan needs to be dropped

True. It is an interesting choice. Let’s see if it pays off... think Pakistan wanted to extend their batting.

Azhar should open again.

Still remember his peak came too when he opened the batting.

Now Abid has made the game a bit easier for our lower order sharp shooters

Yeah I think that we wrre looking for better depth in the batting, especially if we need runs from the tail.

Azhar Ali averages more than Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain

We need to respect our decent players a bit more

Where is Adam Milne these days such a good bowler

Hasnt been playing 4day cricket for sometime now. Rather hasnt played that much of domestic cricket as a whole, kind of in the background now a days since his injuries.

This Jamieson guy is scary. Not bowling wise but physically. Must be 90+ kg and that too mostly muscle. 6 feet 8 as well. That is intimidating.

So far so good. This is a faster track means ball will come on to bat - scoring rate will be higher.
