What's new

Pakistan end Day 2 of the 1st Test on 308/8 with a lead of 88

I believe Hasan Ali is a handy batsman and Yasir has a hundred in Australia.

100 run lead there for the taking. :faf

Faheem needs to score big now that hes got a start, nothing stupid here.

I'll be bold here and dont want to jinx things but if Fawad gets another century he will become a cricket cult legend!! Especially in todays world of social media and now that he is on sky..

Even the commentary on Radio Pakistan has been top notch so far compared to the Sri Lankan series last year. Chisti Mujahid one of the Asian legend commentators has got wonderful voice for radio..

This is so reminiscent of 90s Radio Pakistan commentary ..

Hassan, Nauman and Yasir are batsmen to follow and they all can bat a bit. With good application, lead can poto go upwards of 40-50 here.

Fawad needs to play Rabada most of time here, can see fahim playing a rash shot.

For that you would have to play Babar at 3. I don’t mind this actually.

1. Azhar Ali
2. Imran Butt
3. Babar Azam
4. Fawad Alam
5. Saud Shakeel
6. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
7. Faheem Ashraf
8. Hassan Ali
9. Yasir Shah
10. Nauman Ali
11. Shaheen Afridi

I'm honestly worried about the lack of quality openers in Pakistan. I am starting to think it won't be a bad idea to force Usman Salahuddin to open the batting in domestic cricket. That's where Mohammad Wasim should earn his keep, given the selection structure in place.

Faheem does and should not feature in the top 30 batsmen in Pakistan.

On current ability, not based on body of work. He played Boult, Southee, and Jamieson for fun in their back yard and is now pulling Rabada for four, I think after the work with Yousuf he makes number 10 in my list.

Rohail scored a 100 against NZ A, he might be fit in above Abid in this list

Hussain talat also in good form scored 250 recently in QEA should be above Abid Ali I think.

Abid Ali plays the new ball, Rohail and Hussain come in the middle order. So even though Abid gets out for 20s and 30s, I still think he’s better than them.

Faheem has this knack of playing inside the line off the ball. could have been curtains there

This must be first time in about 20 years where Pak have all tailenders with some ability with bat, Shaheen being the worst but can tonk few.

Completely agree with the concern, it’s even more concerning that there are even less younger openers coming through. Our nation’s hopes ride on Haider Ali, Abdullah Shafique, Ali Zaryab, Omair bin Yousuf, Saim Ayub, and Muhammad Huraira. Hopefully just one of them is good enough.

This is a much more useful and important innings from Fawad than his 2nd innings 100 in a losing effort. By making a 100 in the 1st innings when the team was 27/4, he's ensured that Pakistan has stayed in the game and could be in a position to gain a handy lead.

I am not convinced by most of those names. Maybe Haider Ali can be groomed as a good option in Asia (somewhat like Prithvi Shaw), but he'd be a walking wicket abroad. All the others need to score bucketloads of runs in first-class cricket, as they still haven't learned to bat in long-form cricket.

The reason why I mentioned Salahuddin is that he possesses a tight technique (better than all openers that we have tried at test cricket recently) and is used to batting against the new ball in domestic cricket given that CP had unreliable openers during the last season.

True. I personally am of the belief that unless you have really really 4 bowlers available, its better to have atleast 1 or 2 of them to have some batting ability. For the two similar level bowlers give or take a bit, its always better to prefer the ones with some batting ability.

Inexplicable of De Kock to not be bowling Nortje with the new ball.

Patience is a virtue gotta give him time

Undoubtedly one of the best techniques in Pak cricket currently. Can definitely play in the top 3.

What a knock! Well deserved 100.

Needs to carry on.

Can on big man, double up with another ton in your home town!

Good coverage overall impressed by the work put in by the PCB, usual suspects adding their own gems in aswell.

Wasim Akram after Maharaj was out for a duck after facing 8-10 balls. - "Good innings by the batsmen, he played well."

Rameez Raja insistence after Faheem got hit on the head that the ball came of the bat and it was a good catch, except the fielder didnt even catch it.

Fawad Alam surpasses Asad Shafiq’s whole career with this single knock; under pressure and in first innings to rescue the team commendable performance

Knew Faddi was gonna get a hundred, said it once and said it before last 6 innings at NSK he’s scored at an ave of 102 SR 46. 211 highest on this ground in 2019/20 QeA.

Played Fawad.

Is Mamoon going to give our players some credit - or will he continue to bathe in his misery?

Don't be reactionary dude.

Asad may not have been some great, but he did his fair share of knocks for Pakistan

Batting indeed is an art and you learn the art by grinding yourself in domestic cricket..

Hope that batsman with a heart of a mouse never returns to international cricket. Ten years we wasted on that guy.

At the age of 36, the guy has scored a ton against:

1. Boult, Southee, Wagner and Jamieson

2. Rabada, Nortje, Maharaj and Ngidi

Thats a big deal tbh

This innings by Faddy is better than anything Asad Shafiq played in his life.

I find it hard to believe we would've shelled those Tests vs WI, SL and NZ in UAE had Fawad played instead of Shafiq.

Fawad can't get out now though, need to extend lead to 100 as batting last will be difficult.

Being left out due to us persisting with rubbish asad shafiq

Not just Shafiq....
Umar Akmal too especially between 2009 and 2013 or so..

Basically, every tom, dick and harry was tried except for the man who made a hundred on debut and had one of the best ever first-class stats in Pakistan...

PCB/Selectors/Management should bow their heads in shame

More like 15 years. He was part of the U-21 world cup winning team iirc.

Yes I remember.
Was also in the 2009 T20 World Cup winning team.

I think YK would have continued selecting him had he remained captain for longer then 5 minutes
