Pakistan reach Stumps on Day 4 at 73/0, need another 278 to win the 3rd Test against Australia

Aussies have comfortably scored at 3+ run rate in this series, no reason why we cannot show the same intent on home pitches. Keep this up, lets not have another 21 runs in 14.3 overs again.

I think these are calculated decisions where he’s felt Pak there for the taking, kudos to Cummins for being brave and thinking about team.

With Pak, its all about the individuals

Some intent and Cummins will open up the field for easy singles
 
It's that kinda target where Pakistan needs to be criticized if they play for draw from ball one. 350 in 120 overs is quite possible on batting pitch.

You gotta give credit to Aus for declaration to make things interesting.

Missing out scoring runs on bad balls is the indication of how afraid are they of loosing their spot.
 
Watch Babar lie about how Pakistan “thought” about chasing the target at some point but then the ball started to reverse, we lost wickets and bla bla.
 
The worst thing that can happen here is Fawad saving his career with a flukey half-century tomorrow.

Why doesn’t Australia convince Zampa to play Tests? He is miles better than any leggie in the country and will be an excellent partner for Lyon in Asia.
 
Sporting declaration by Aus here. Pitch is not bad and Aus just put 200 plus with only 3 wickets down. The asking rate is not high as well. As long as Pakistan does not bat at a snail's pace, good chance to win here.

That's what I love about Aus. Trying to win games and if they lose a few in the process it's fine. It ensured that the last day of the series won't be a dull day.

Not sure why Pak batsmen don't employ the sweep that much. On lower bouncing pitch, surely there is less risk of top edging no?

Even if they are 250-0

They need to think out of the box and see how they can extend their batting line up by throwing a couple of the hitters before the blockers

To me it looks like 70% Pak win and 30% draw after declaration.

India scored 324 on last day in Gabba. Pak will require around 265-270 at end of day 4.
Should be achievable in home conditions on a batting pitch.

You have to make do with what you have. Australia doesn’t have quality Test specialist spinners besides Lyon, so why not pick someone who is experienced and has proper variations.

Speaking of picking T20 specialists, Pakistan should consider selecting Usman Qadir. I despise him because of the stunt that he pulled off (“I want to play for Australia”), but he has variations and he can actually spin the ball.

Can’t do worse than Nauman and Sajid.
 
They are cautious in the first half of the session and play for the close in the next half of the session and hence a runrate of 2.2 lol.

Being sitting ducks won’t help either. They need to make runs so it makes the bowlers do something different.

To win they have to go for the win and to draw they have to go for the win
 
With 10 wickets in hand and full day of play tomorrow, Pakistan are the favorites to win. Australia overconfidence will cost them the series.

Well, atleast one team has to play for win. Usually home team does things like this but here Pak is happy to play for draw from test 1.

He also took Naseem Shah. Guy certainly had an eye for talent
 
Seeing turn on this pitch now... pakistan wont make 250 imo... too prone to collapsing. Australia lucky they won the toss in this match. Spinners will decide the game tomorrow...
 
Lyon is right in the game with that rough wide to the right hander. Will be very difficult to score against him.
 
Shafique’s head is in the clouds. He is going to throw his wicket away soon. He is under lots of pressure.

By attacking you can give the bowler to think something. Bowler can't keep bowling at the same place. SPin won't be the same in other spots.

You can call it bravery, I believe it's common sense. I'm sure the last test was playing on Cummins mind. They weren't able to get 20 wickets in Karachi hence why giving themselves enough time for this one.

Labu is so annoying I'm afraid. Supporting declaration by Cummin. Pakistan should continue batting like they are and make sure to punish bad balls. Shafique could well play another gem of inning, he has been second best batsman in the series after Usman. He has a great future ahead of him, with the maturity he has shown so early in his career and without that much first class cricket.
 
The fact that Pakistan haven't lost any wickets is a sign that if you keep playing positively you have a higher chance of success.

We could have easily been 25/0 at this stage with the same type of bowling that Australia are doing. It's all about the mindset.
 
Swepson gone for 23 in his 5 overs so far, a very good strategy to attack him.

That was certainly a vey bad decision, he was way out of his depth and got smacked.

Earmarking and development at that stage would have been just fine.

Bringing back Cummins or Starc before the ball has started reversing is at least a good thing to drain some energy.

It will be worse if the spinners bowl over after over getting joy in the rough, then as soon as the ball starts reversing the quicks come on and run through us. That's the ideal Aussie plan, we have got to disrupt that.

If they see out today, need to get to tea tommorow with minimum loss of wickets and 175 to get , is a chase on. just play ball on merits and look at bigger pic.

If Australia don’t win this Test, they will officially be recognized as the fifth day bottlers.

Better to be brave and play cricket in a positive way then be a coward. Also if pakistan are positive it creates chances.

dont forget are tail starts at number 5.

I agree.. Draw is not an option on this wicket. Win or lose, with the latter only acceptable if you were aiming for the former...

Too much turn in the pitch now for Pakistan to go for it, will take a huge effort for a strong lineup as well.

You need someone like Pant here to attack Lyon and counter the reverse-swing with some inventive strokeplay.

We don’t have such players.

The one thing thats so gobsmacking is Lyon's rapid deterioration from king of the last day collapses to average dud who aint spinning it or creating any chances. i guess since india's tour in 2020-21. My 5c take on it is his overspin is just not working, his bounce even on aus wickets is not enough and on such SC dead wickets is just cannon fodder.
Pak can milk him all day today and tommorw, he aint running thru much batting sides.
maybe his comment before 2017 ashes 'will be good to see end of some careers' is a karmic turn on him.
he has'nt delivered on last day pitches in a long time
