288 to get for NZ - can Pak do it ?

New Zealand 289 for 0 after 9 overs.

Scintillating batting display by the lower order - living up to its reputation - Pak must feel the momentum is with them - can the bowlers do their stuff?

I think we gave a reasonable account of ourselves. Although to be honest, I wanted our guys to punish the NZers some more.

Well, next time Inshaallah.

Now it's the Afridi, Aamer, iDone show!

Inshaallah.

ok im hoping in first 5 overs we will have atleast 2 wickets in hand lol :ajmal

Shouldn't be a problem defending this with our bowling UNLESS Ross Taylor comes out and does what he does in the IPL

I say drop Amir and bring the best all rounder in the world. :malik

I think you'll find LS....Malik is the best all-rounder in the world... :10: :inti

I suspect NZ will start in style. The match will be won in the middle overs. iA.

:afridi :ajmal

Tell you what that was some mind blowing stuff right there!!!! Now for some bowling, should be a good showing from them now, batsmen did there bit for sure.

Phew! What a finish. At the end of 30 overs Pakistan were at 111 for 4. At the end of 40, they had jumped to 180 and kept looting runs till the very end. It's the classic 80's scenario from Pakistan. Hold wickets for the fun-bash at the end.

True say that. Allrounder in every sense of the word.

I think we will also finish them in style :)

I think we a short in the bowling department. If Razzaq or somebody can't cut it, who can make up the overs?

Even though Pakistan find themselves in a comfortable position right now, we can't rely on our lower order to get away with that kind of hitting every game.

Instead, we should expect the top order to contribute more and the likes of Afridi should not be expected to bat until after the 30th over.

So Momo - what about the conventional wisdoms business ? Hold wickets to the end and have an almighty go or was this just by chance?

Really think YK should bowl and make himself useful?

I stand by that.

This holding wickets thing works sometimes (like today), but when it doesn't (which is more often than not) we have to pay, like we did in the semi-final recently.

Is there a rule which bars 12th men to be captains? Maybe our very own 12thMan can answer this best.

If no such rule exists, I think YK should be the 12th man - captain. In that way his positive captaincy can be utilized while a better ODI batter can be played too.

Yes, this was a truly pakistan batting display. Openers and middle order failed, and late order hitting got us the runs. Reminds me of 99 WC, when moin khan destroyed the bowling in the late overs, and our top order failed in seaming conditions.

Afridi, kami, poppeye should be in the late order. These guys can cause so much damage there. NO need to get them in early.

I just hope Gul doesn't leak runs as he has done that recently.

I think so abu dhabi pitch is a very good one for cricket, it has bit of everything for everyone... Fast bowlers got early help and also there was some reverse towards the end.
Spinners also become a handful as the track is dry and ball grips on to the surface
On these pitches 250 seems to be very competitive, 287 scored by Pak was just an anomaly due some great late order hitting.

287 is just bit too much for new zealand me thinks and Inshallah i will be proved right. Unless we ball really badly or the fifth bowler quota hurts us really badly, i dont see us losing this match

Very true. Seems to be the pattern for some time now (Kitply Cup was the first time I saw this plan being implemented since before Woolmer/Inzy). If it works, it works and seems to be just so deliciously entertaining.

I predict ten overstepping no-balls (free hits):

Aamer: 2
Gul: 7 (one on a free-hit delivery)
Ajmal: 1

Five of the free hits will fetch boundaries.

this holding wickets business always makes me wonder..what if we get a good start, then hold wickets and then have a go..we'd be making 330 plus everytime..but alas we are Pakistan!!..lol..also whats with this I done business!!

Not kami. Remember the only way you can fully utilize this middle order is if the top order fails miserably (like it did today). Very risky if the middle order also has its bad day (like CT semi final).

Kami should return to opening, and let's one use specialist opener. Kami can be the Gilchrist for us.

Pak just have to make sure they dont give too many runs in the 1st 15, then the spinners will do the job

Whats wrong with NZ? Are they playing a test match? Totally wrong team selection etc.... :D

NZ collecting singles - this is bad...wrist slitter brigade will arrive any moment now...

Pathetic. Bring Greatbatch back. At least he'd get a move on.

I think Aamers trousers are a bit too big, he needs to get a smaller size...

Hes bowling birlliantly yes...

This is why we arent successful - the trouser size is a must for any upcoming bowler - shame on PCB.

Here we go...I said Aamir is improving...looks like Gul is same old Gul with his NO BALLS.
