Pakistan vs South Africa - Warm up Match on March 9th

By all accounts Gibbs got a real beauty from Sami, lifted off a length. DeVilliers played back to one that he should have played forward to and was plumb in front. Gul made Smith look like a mug when he flattened his stumps.

where did u see them?

how can the pitch be that bad if they still managed to almost score 200 runs?

am i reading this right, 12 BYES. Pathetic.
Kamran Akmal is gonna cost us atleast a game with his shoddy glovework.

Any truth in the rumour (which I just started) that we are 27 for 7?

kamran akmal.............a ver big hole ( surakh ) in his gloves. good performance by him, normally he drops couple of catches, atleast 1 stumping chance and around 10 runs for bye. plus he talks alot anyone can hear it from the microphones inside the stumps.

has the innings of pakistans begun, or have they abandoned the game.

If the game had been abandoned there would be an announcement on atleast one of the cricket sites

Asalaam alikum Wr Wb Brothers;

I have been checking the three web sites regularly ( cricinfo, cricketeurope and ecb.co.uk) but so far no updates on pakistani batsmen's progress. Also just checked " geosuper.tv" but no mention so far of pakistan's reply to south africa's score of 199 all out. If it's a dodgy wicket then pakistan batsmen might struggle as we all know but i hope they do very well and give south africa a big WALLOPING as they deserve ! ;-)

And hash please no silly jokes about pak 27/7 PLEASE ! :12:

this is quite frustrating yar. soo many people want to watch/listen this match and there is no coverage whatsoever. not even an audio link. :(

Apparently it's a tough pitch for batting so i assume it's a tough pitch for keeping as well.

Port-of-Spain, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: South African cricketer Shaun Pollock gets air borne after delivering a ball to Pakistani batsman Mohammad Hafeez (not in picture) during a warm-up match of the ICC World Cup Cricket 2007 between Pakistan and South Africa at the UWI cricket ground in Port-of-Spain, 09 March 2007. Pakistan won the toss and elected to field as South Africa scored 199 runs for the loss of all wickets at the end of their innings.

so the match is on, but still no scores :(

:))) did u watch the game? or even see any highlights?

there is no way you can tell that all those byes were conceded because of the Keeper. the pitch is diabolical, with uneven bounce...and u have a bowler like Sami who bowls in the the lower 90s and Gul who bowls in Higher 80s. if the ball stays extremely low..any keeper would struggle

What's taking so long? Where are the players? Here are a few possible scenarios:

1) The team management is trying to push Younis Khan out the door, so he could open, but he's refusing to let go of the door latch.

2) Pakistan is protesting the 12 byes. Umpires came to ask them if they want to play, and instead of responding, Inzi asked him why those byes were awarded.

3) They are fighting for who should be included in the batting XI. Either everyone wants out (and go to the beach), or everyone has invited their inlaws, and wants to play and impress them. They are unable to resolve.

4) Team manager is on the cell phone. He's in the middle of a business deal, or an argument with his wife. He cannot be disturbed. And he has the only key to the kit-room.

5) Pakistan has lodged a formal complaint against Cricinfo's negative treatment, and just to show them a lesson, is refusing to play. Their logic: the supporters will think Cricinfo is intentionally not covering their batting, and will stop supporting this website.

6) The site-screen has fallen and cannot get up.

7) Since it's a warmup game, they are trying to negotiate which batsmen would not be given out.

8) Since it's a warmup game, they are trying to reposition the boundary rope, and bring it to the 30-yard circle. This way, they can score their runs at 10 runs per over, and have a mental advantage over all their opponents who can only score at 5-6 runs per over.

I can't think of any other reason why there's this delay without any formal announcement. Can anyone???

What's the latest? Surely there's someone somewhere who knows?

Imran "the beast" Nazir proves again why he not fit to be anywhere near the Pakistan side.

Pakistan innings (target: 200 runs from 50 overs) R
Imran Nazir c Bosman b Nel 0
Mohammad Hafeez c Boucher b Langeveldt 49
Younis Khan not out 28 -
Mohammad Yousuf not out 0
Extras (lb 2) 2

Total (2 wickets; 25 overs)

That's from Cricinfo

Nazir out for a duck! :69: M Hafeez did good as an opener so does this mean that we are back to the same batting line up!

hafeez out moyo in 79 for 2

hafeez is beginnig to find form just at the right time, interestingly younis didnt open, that mean inzi been demoted to 5.

btw
they have only given 2 extras, compared to our 26.

Bob and the boys need to sit down and talk about the 12th batter MR extras.

Come on Rob, cheer up mate. England have just got a wicket. Need another 9 more before they score 58 runs :P

Once again they have tinkered with the batting order. Younis is at 3, Yousuf at 4 and Inzi at 5! What are they trying to achieve by doing this I dont quite understand

Based on one warm-up game?

As a side note he is a bigger beast than the whole England team combined together, so cut it with "the beast" thing :D

it looks like the scores are gonna be updated after each 25 overs. So the next update will be when the match is over.

Cricinfo has even FOW info for the one sided Aus / Eng match and but certainly not interested in covering the Pak match. The scorecard was hard to find in the first place.

Game is going a bit slooow. :6:

I just wonder when Kallis and Peterson will be given a bowl.

Peterson is being hidden away in the side in my opinion and I don't really see why. If he isn't going to bowl in a game, then he mustn't be selected. :20:

Play at a World Cup warm-up match between South Africa and Pakistan was held up for seven minutes on Friday after the players slammed the state of the pitch.

The South Africans, put into bat at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground, were unhappy with the way the ball was bouncing off the ground and halted proceedings to highlight the problems.

"(Captain) Graeme Smith and (coach) Mickey Arthur are both of the opinion that the pitch is unfit to play." Cricket South Africa liaison officer Gordon Templeton told reporters.

Arthur and his Pakistan counterpart Bob Woolmer came on to the field to discuss the pitch with the umpires Peter Parker and Ian Gould.

"Players weren't happy with the pitch because some balls were flying off... but the umpires are satisfied that the game can go ahead," International Cricket Council official Dhiraj Malhotra told reporters.

Ed Walsh, Rushmans media manager at the ground added: "The issue is the safety of the players. Some balls are coming through low, while some balls are coming through high.

"Both teams have accepted the conditions. If this gets worse, umpires will make a decision."

South Africa were then bowled out for 199 with Loots Bosman top scoring with 53 and Mohammad Sami taking 2-13.

Hafeez shouldn't open in the first game. Younis should be one opening but for some reason Bob and Co. have decided to spice things up again!

There is an very good saying "you cannot teach an old dog new tricks" so they are reverting to old tricks, new tricks were just a one time deal

It's Pathetic really, someone can just call someone the ground and ask for updates

the guy nazir hasnt clicked, they need to be persistant with him. Hafeez back in form let hope he continues.

its a dilemma, open with nazir/hafeez or Younis/nazir.

Happy with the decision rana didnt bowl, lets hope he fight for his place and doesnt shy away.

Hafeez shouldn't open. He is much more comfortable down the order me thinks

may be inzi moved down coz he had someo good practice in the lat game and wanted to give others a chance

Hafeez has had enough practice from the last game. Should have given Younis another go at the time to see how he fares against quality opposition

can he accumulate runs and the rotate the strike as good as younis and co, that what make a good middle order.

he did well last game, but he was dropped on 8 against a lowly canada who lost to ireland btw.

no need to say who should open, too late for that. Just put two guys out there and root for them. There's no standouts as you might have seen over the last 3 years.

I think he is much better when the ball has become older. He struggled against the likes of Lewis and Pollock who extracted considerable amount of swing

hafeez is in good form now a days..i suppose
i hope pak wins this game
that way they would be confident in pool games
then if they win all pool games which is very much possible
that would give them enough confidence to play well in the super 8!

Pakistan would gain some revenge over SA, as well as be in a confident frame of mind on Tuesday, if they win this match.
