This is an extremely powerful sign of intent by Pakistan. Inshallah they will keep this up.

SAME HERE, i had a instinctive feeling that pakistan would WALLOP saffies and win today's warm up match ! I also have a good instinctive feeling pakistan team will do well in the world cup INSHALLAH. :19:

Lets have a party of celebration, hey saffer please do join in as there will be delicious samosas, kebabs, spring rolls, chicken pastries, chicken sandwiches and your favourite soft drinks !!!

Nothing to be ashamed about - we won - simple as that.

A few thoughts.......

1. It is just a warm up game so please keep our feet firmly on the ground

2. The result will be a boost.....will hopefully give the players some self belief.

3. Younis, Yousuf and Hafeez got some valuable time in the middle.

4. Our bowlers bowled well.

Overall we have had a couple of good workouts in the warm up games, especially today. Now the serious stuff starts. And I can't wait.

These warm up matches I think are absolutely not indicative of what will happen in the WC. I would not for example think Bangladesh could win against New Zealand in the Cup as they have done in the warm up. The fact that the pitch was dodgy to say the least is also a reason why we shouldn't really look too much into this match.

Shuker Alhamdolillah! Finally, our team gets some confidence. Hope they continue this performance with the bat and the ball throughout the world cup! INSHALLAH!

Depends how you look at it ... the main bowlers were rested at the end the game to give the "political bowlers a chance" i.e. Telemachus and Peterson i.e. basically to say they did go to the World Cup and played in a game. Hate to say it, but they won't see any more games. Ntini is our only real non-white bowler and he didn't play today (due to birth of his child).

So back to bowling, Smith bowled over 5 overs of his attempts of spin. Prince even bowled an over. Peterson put down 6 overs of his pies (he shouldn't be in the team) and grandpa Telemachus bowled 5 overs. So that sums it up. The 5th bowling was shared between 5 bowlers and was actually over 18 overs due. Bowlers 1 to 4 not finishing their overs (at a lower rate). I guess Arthur/Smith have to experiment with the other bowlers, but why not do it during the series in SA, not in the final warmup game?

So Pakistan fans, don't jump up and down and get excited too much! :)

I agree that warm up matches are not good indicators. India lost side game in 2003 world cup. But they ended up reaching finals.

as we beat the world number one side are we world champions now! wooohooooo give us the trophy forget rest of the tournamant.

Yes i agree with you hash that we must all and the pakistan team must keep our feet firmly on the ground. This win against south africa will give pakistan a lot of boost, I am very pleased with gul, sami, hafeez, malik, younis and yousuf's success in to day's match. The previous match hafeez, inzamam and akmal came good with the bat and iftikhar anjum was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets. Pakistan team has had good warm up matches and finding success in both of them emphatically.

Now the crunch question should we drop imran nazir for the opening world cup match against west indies ? Rana naved ul hasan should also stay out as he has shown no effort to improve. I believe we can play with the following eleven on tuesday 13th march against the west indies;

Pakistan

1. Akmal
2. Hafeez
3. Younis
4. Yousuf
5. Inzamam
6. Malik
7. Mahmood/ arafat
8. Kaneria
9. Sami
10. Gul
11. Rao

What you guys think ???

Our feet are on the ground. It's your team that needs to be a bit humble when everyone knows they choke at the big stage :) .

Yes, this exactly what said in the very first post on the thread.....we need a goo outing;

Should be a good game today. I hope, Pakistan just does not roll over and play dead. A few MUSTs;

1) Afridi's must have good outing.
2) Imran and Younis should have a decent stay at the wicket.
3) Sami, Rana and Yasir need to have get good practice.
4) Most important - Danish should have good game!!!

We got that...even Yasir had a decent bowl....other Afridi and Imran everybody got a good practice!

DOn't worry south african fan we will jump up and up when we will give you a official WALLOPING at the super eight stage of the world cup INSHALLAH as pakistan are still not finished with south africa. I believe south africa is going to struggle without quality spinners in this world cup. When pakistan give south africa a thrashing by 141 runs at durban in south africa the experts argued that south africa possesses a one dimentional bowling attack. Durban wicket is similar to a subcontinent wicket and to succeed against teams like pakistan, india and sri lanka you need to have quality spinners which south africa have got NOT .

So my friend JustAnotherFan may i suggest you saffies DON'T JUMP UP AND DOWN !

Peterson is a specialist spinner and captain smith bowls his spin part time however both are poor in quality therefore south africa with their one dimentional attack is in for trouble in this world cup. Both peterson and smith conceded runs like a loose water tap. Some nice whiping buy the pakistan batsmen huh saffies ?! :D . To be successful in the world cup the south african think tanks should have brought some quality leg, off and left arm spinners.

Then we know we could jump up and down. :10:

Pakistan v South Africa, 2007 World Cup warm-up

Younis eases Pakistan past South Africa

Pakistan 200 for 3 (Younis Khan 79) beat South Africa 199 (Bosman 53) by seven wickets
Live scorecard

Younis Khan's 79 guided Pakistan to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over South Africa on a difficult pitch in Trinidad. The match was stopped during South Africa's innings when the batsmen complained about the surface, but Pakistan did not have any difficulty in reaching their total of 200 for 3 with 5.3 overs remaining.

Pakistan's reply started poorly, Imran Nazir falling for 0, before Younis and Mohammad Hafeez eased towards the target. Hafeez was caught behind off Charl Langeveldt one short of a half-century, but Younis did not let the slip-up affect him and he managed the proceedings until departing lbw to Graeme Smith's offspin at 157 for 3. He hit nine fours and a six during his 98-ball innings.

Mohammad Yousuf (48) and Shoaib Malik (16) made sure of the victory to continue Pakistan's strong preparation. After winning both of their warm-ups, the side is ideally placed before the tournament-opening match against West Indies on Tuesday.

Loots Bosman provided the glue with a battling half-century to lift South Africa to a modest total after they had earlier come unstuck on the tricky pitch. Pakistan had them 27 for 3 before a Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince rescue act added 66 for the fourth wicket.

They both fell on 93, leaving South Africa in some difficulty, before Bosman's bashing helped them to 199. Pakistan's bowlers kept plugging away, though, and removed them inside their 50 overs. However, Pakistan would have fancied their chances of containing them for even fewer after Mohammad Sami started by removing the opener AB de Villiers lbw and finding Herschelle Gibbs' edge, while Umar Gul clean bowled Smith for 1.

The match at St Augustine, Trinidad, was held up for nearly ten minutes owing to poor pitch conditions. South Africa were 56 for 3, with Kallis and Prince at the crease, after being put in when the game was stopped following complaints from the batsmen. Bob Woolmer, Pakistan's coach, and Smith, South Africa's captain, came on to the pitch and were involved in discussions with the umpires Peter Parker and Ian Gould.

"The batsmen were not happy with the way the ball was bouncing," an ICC official said, "but the umpires asked them to continue." The interruption was the latest incident in Trinidad to hamper both sides' preparations for the tournament. Earlier in the week the teams were evacuated because of a gas leak at their Hilton hotel, while Pakistan's match against Canada was reduced to a 48-over affair because of a fallen sightscreen.

Pak sending out a signal to the rest of the world that their here to stay. SA, they have underplayed it but two scores of below 200 is a worrying sign.

Congrats Pak. I really hope though that Inzi hasn't gone back to coming at no 6 in odis. He should really come at no.4 like he promised before the start of WC

theres no such thing as warm up games, playing for your country you should try your best.

If we cant do it in a warm up then we cant do it in real. If we can do it in a warm up then we can for sure do it in real ;) Practise makes perfect! well done pakistan we are not a weak side that is for sure!

I disagree. Especially in the games before a world cup......spending some time in the middle and getting some practice is far more important than winning. These were not even official ODIs. In two days time nobody will remember these games and they will not go onto any sort of record whatsoever.

"It was a tale of two pitches," Mickey Arthur, South Africa's coach, told AFP. "When we batted it was wet and difficult, but later the pitch dried up and became easier."

:))) :))) :)))

As whining goes, this takes the biscuit. And the cake. And the tea cup.

Perhaps the SA batters shouldn't have wasted so much time in their innings whining about the pitch. They could have gotten Pakistan in to bat earlier.

:)))

I'm not seeing the bigger picture? No, I AM seeing the bigger picture.....which is why I am saying the world cup (the bigger picture) is more important than an unofficial warm up match.

Unless you are agreeing with me, in which case :19:

im agreeing with hash on this one. dont get me wrong i was happy we won, however i was more happier the likes of yk,moyo and hafeez gt time in the middle. that means inzi, moyo,yk,hafeez, akmal and malik to a lesser extent have had valuable confident boosting innings. also the likes of gul, kaneria and sami and rao have also bowled well.

people are getting ahead of themselves just because we won. i will judge pakistan after tuesday when the pressure is on and where it really counts.

like alex ferguson says, on tuesday it will be Squeaky Bum Time

lets hope the warm up has allowed our players to settle into the conditions nicely and allow us to fire from the start.

Exactly this track was your typical SA/Eng and NZ pitch in ODIs. Early help for first innings and than all of a sudden goes flat for second? Good it happened to SA for once.

Heard there was around 4.000 people in the ground. Pretty impressive for a warmup game taking place in Trindad between SA vs Pak

Fantastic win for us and the excuses continue from the *****.

well done pakistan....nothing to say....pitches or whatever , who really cares...it's a warm up game...only worried our guys have not yet had a decent bat....

How did YoKh get 70-odd on an unplayable wicket?
