[PICTURES/VIDEOS] KL Rahul - Performance Watch

This is what Rahul always has been. People always celebrate because he plays a really explosive innings every once in a while, but when it matters he will always let you down.

The issue is people on this forum so quickly forget and will be once again singing his praises when he plays a really good innings.

KL just hit one boundary in his 66 today
must be some kind of record.

Not sure about his plan.
He literally ruined the game with his stupid approach.
He put lot of pressure on other batsmen.

He is another Mohammad Rizwan or Imam ul Haq type player. Mediocre cricketer in this format, a mental midget considering the talent and stroke play he posses compared to these two. If India has to achieve anything, discard him and get back Pant at any cost.

Apart from Netherland, I have never seen him play a match winning or impactful innings with GOOD SR. Good enough for low chases like Imam and Rizwan.

It was a very slow inning by KL Rahul in the final tonight.

If he had played his own game without any fear, India might have reached 270 or 280 which could have been a very competitive total.

KL Rahul his innings stung the life out of Indian batting, torture it was pure, not sure how this will impact on his future

One of the worst mentally weak players I have ever seen in my life. Yes the situation demanded caution but not so much caution.

Should have been 90 of 110 for example atleast not 60 of 110.

But bigger culprits are sky iyer short ball weakness and also jadeja.

KL Rahul shines for India today against South Africa in the ongoing 2nd ODI. He played a sensible knock of 56 off 64 deliveries that included 7 boundaries.

50 up for KL Rahul. A decent knock by Indian wicket keeper batsman when everyone was struggling. KL Rahul 55*(95) at the moment against South Africa in the boxing day test.

Brilliant knock from KL. The best Keeper batsman in India and probably in the world right now.

I know people including me criticized him for his effort in the WC final, but he is the best player after Kohli and Rohit in the squad.

Batting coach gives KL Rahul special title for his gutsy knock in Centurion

ndia's batting coach Vikram Rathour lavished praise on opener-turned-middle-order batter KL Rahul for his unbeaten half-century in Centurion on Day One of the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa.

Reduced to 92/4 by the South African quicks on a challenging day one wicket in Centurion, KL Rahul came to the fore to drag India back into the match with an unbeaten 70 that saw India finish the day on 208/8, a position that seemed farfetched at one stage.

Rahul was put to test by the four-prong South African seam attack but came out with flying colours as he mixed caution with aggression batting alongside the tailenders for a large part of his innings.

Rahul, who had made a century at this very venue exactly two years ago in the 2021 Boxing Day Test match, was lauded by Rathour as India's "crisis man" for his pristine touch and strokeplay.

"He's certainly going to be a man of crisis for us I think," Rathour said at the press conference post the day's play.

"Every time there are tough situations and most of the times he's there. He's the guy who handles those situations really well.

"He was very clear with his game plans, what he wanted to do, defended the right balls, attacked the right balls."

The conditions saw South Africa opt to bowl first and they made early inroads to expose India's less experienced middle-order. While Virat Kohli hung around for a while alongside Shreyas Iyer, once the Proteas broke through those two, it was down to Rahul to carry the batting.

"The conditions were tough for the batting. After 3-4 games of cricket, lunch we ended at 91-43 I think. There was a good recovery and a good partnership between the two [Kohli and Iyer]," the batting coach said, adding that Kohli looked in great nick during his stay in the middle.

The batting coach was certain that the visitors had done a reasonable job despite the early collapse. India will resume on 208/8 after rain cut short play on day one. Rahul, unbeaten on 70, has Mohammed Siraj for company with Prasidh Krishna to follow.

May well be playing a match-winning innings in the first innings vs SA in the 1st Test

Rahul is an enigma. Underachiever, frustrating, inconsistent, timid, meek but every once in a while he plays a blinder like this. 5th 100 in SENA, two of the earlier 4 were matchwinning efforts.

This one will go down in history. This one was worth its weight in gold.

KL Rahul joined a burgeoning list of players in Centurion during his maiden Test match as the designated wicketkeeper in 1st Test against South Africa.

Ironically, the ground in South Africa is called "CENTURION," but this is the first time any away batter (KL Rahul) has scored more than 1 hundred here.

Legendary Australian cricket team opener Justin Langer commented on KL Rahul in a video uploaded by an IPL Franchise team:

"He has experience. He can play to both sides of the ground. He plays spin and quick bowling well. I feel really grateful and I feel blessed to have a captain like KL Rahul. I am excited about that (teaming with KL Rahul)."

Rahul clips a single into the off-side to clinch a 72-ball half-century, his 14th fifty in Tests, scored in his 50th Test. He was dropped on zero by Foakes. Making them pay now.

Former England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan during the commentary:

"Rahul is always looking to raise the level of intensity in his batting. Whether it’s running between the wickets, foot movement, he has looked very impressive."

Had a hundred for the taking there.

Nevertheless - brilliant knock, out for 86

Good knock but seems today's batsmen don't have in them to hit big hundreds. Class player, pretty stylish but not in the league of elites.

So, it's now understood that KLR will be our VVS going forward?

A top order bat who played some jaw dropping knocks at the top but eventually had to settle in at number 5 where he proved his real worth to the team. VVS' initial years in the team maps near identically to KLR in tests.

VVS was at another level, Rahul nowhere near as good. He is a late bloomer actually.

KL Rahul has been ruled out of the third Test against England in Rajkot. Devdutt Padikkal, in prolific form, replaces him in the Indian Test squad after scoring 151 in his latest Ranji Trophy match.

Good riddance. This mental midget should keep away from Indian cricket in all formats.

You said vvs seriously

You said vvs seriously

Yes. Probably more dynamic because unlike VVS, KL has proven himself as a LOI batsman. Check his average and SR in both ODIs and T20s.

He needs to improve his consistency in test matches at home, the only hole in his resume. He's already played some memorable knocks in SENA countries. But even at home, remember that we were about to drop the BG trophy if not for KL in 2017.

KL Rahul accused of 'sending wrong signals' despite being sidelined from England Tests due to injury

KL Rahul found himself under scrutiny from a BCCI source after his social media posts showcased his practice sessions which raised eyebrows. A source within the Board accused him of "sending wrong signals" amidst his recent injury setback. Rahul's absence in the third Test against England due to a lingering quadriceps strain, which also sidelined him from the second match, has further intensified the debate.

The Karnataka batter will continue his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru with hopes of returning for further Tests. The selectors had initially included Rahul in the squad alongside Ravindra Jadeja, pending clearance from the BCCI's medical team. However, amidst renewed injury concerns, his fate hangs in the balance, casting a shadow over his return to the playing XI.

"KL Rahul hasn't yet reported in Rajkot. Ravindra Jadeja, the local boy has linked up with the team. It was always a case of subject to fitness and BCCI medical team is still not confident that he is match fit. If the BCCI's medical team knew in first place that Rahul's quad injury is as serious as it looks, why in the first place was he kept in provisional squad. And why is the player sending wrong signals by posting videos of his batting on Instagram stories," a senior BCCI source said as quoted by NDTV Sports.

"KL Rahul, whose availability for the remaining three Tests was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the third Test against England in Rajkot. Mr. Rahul has reached 90 per cent of match fitness and is progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team," the BCCI had said in a press release.

Padikkal toiling hard in domestic circuit bears fruit

Devdutt Padikkal, the promising left-handed batter from Karnataka, has been named as Rahul’s replacement for the time being. In his most recent Ranji Trophy match, the 23-year-old scored 151 with the chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar watching his knock from the stands. He has been in excellent form this season. Having started with a 193 against Punjab in the opening game, he struck 103 against Goa. Besides his exploits in Ranji, he also scored 105, 65, and 21 in his three innings for India A in the two unofficial Tests against England Lions.

He is rubbish. Garbage player with garbage mentality.

Sooner india get rid of him the better for India. Otherwise he will cost them in KO stages.

Such players should be discarded early. Applies to all teams.

Just doesn't have what it takes to be a world class batsman.
He averages 34 in test cricket for a reason despite playing 50 tests. Absolute garbage cricketer and has already cost us multiple series/tourneys.

I think he is better than that average because he played a lot of games overseas but obviously a mediocre cricketer by all standards.

He averages 34 because he plays 1 customary good innings in the first test and then goes missing entirely in that series. So he is even poorer than that average of 34 he has in test cricket.

That's decent enough in overseas conditions. That's why I said mediocre.

This injury can go both ways for him. It might sideline him now if the other guys replacing him do something extra ordinary or it may be a rejuvenation for this guy. So far he has been mediocre.

KL Rahul might not be playing anyways or maybe he could have replaced Patiday. India has a good team that played 4th test match, just need to get rid of Patidar.

India Star Sent To London For Treatment, Doubtful For 5th Test Against England: Report

Indian cricket team star batter KL Rahul has missed the last three Test matches in the ongoing series against England due to injury and according to Cricbuzz, he may end up missing the final game in Dharamsala. The report claimed that Rahul has not recovered completely from the quadriceps injury he suffered in the first Test and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent him to London for an expert opinion. Rahul was reportedly '90 per cent' cleared to play the third Test match but the team management and National Cricket Academy (NCA) decided to reassess the situation.

Rahul was named in the India squad for the final three matches of the series by with the condition that his availability will be dependent on his recovery. With India already leading 3-1 in the five-match series, the selectors may end up giving him more time to recover keeping the T20 World Cup in mind.

Meanwhile, former captain Nasser Hussain on Monday said that England should not feel ashamed of losing the Test series to India, as Rohit Sharma's side are the deserved winners in view of the skill-set as well as the mental toughness they possess.

England suffered their first Test series defeat of the 'Bazball' era after India beat them by five wickets in the fourth and penultimate Test in Ranchi to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match affair.

"India deserve credit for the way they've played throughout the series, they have been without some star names...Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah in this one, Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul for most of the series and Rishabh Pant," Hussain wrote on Sky Sports.

"There's a long list of people that India are missing and yet they've managed to put in performances. You have to give credit to India, not only for the skill they have, but the mental toughness to have another home series win. "Their record at home is absolutely phenomenal, so there's no shame in England losing to this Indian side."

KL Rahul declared fit for IPL, set to join Lucknow Super Giants in next two days

KL Rahul has been declared fit for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League, scheduled to start on Friday.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper was awarded the fitness certificate by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and will join the team in the next two days. LSG will open their campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday.

It is understood that the medical team of the BCCI has advised Rahul not to keep wicket in the initial stages of the tournament, and play as a specialist batsman.

"He is fit and can join the IPL franchise in the coming days. He suffered pain in the quadriceps and got an injection too. He went through his rehabilitation and the NCA has now declared him fit. However, he has been advised not to take on the wicket-keeping role immediately,” a source in the Indian board said.

Rahul complained of pain in the right quadriceps after the Hyderabad Test and was later ruled out of the remainder of the home series against England which got over recently.

The BCCI had initially claimed that Rahul had reached 90 percent match fitness and was progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. But they later decided to consult a specialist in England and Rahul travelled abroad to get an expert opinion.

Happy to see him fit. One of the best T20 bats for India. His SR does not lie.

Playing T20 after almost a year, the team lost early wickets back to back. However, this man stood tall and played a calm and composed innings, scoring 58 (44) for LSG against RR in IPL 2024.

Useless Stat padder and a bottler of highest level (in crucial games). Should never be anywhere near the Indian team in LOIs. Tuk Tuked the hell out of Indian fans in WC2023 Final by scoring 66 from 107.

With the emergence of Pant, KL Rahul will be feeling a lot of pressure for his spot in the team. With the World cup just around the corner, Rahul would want to have a smashing IPL to secure his spot.

50 up for LSG Captain KL Rahul, going strong at the moment against CSK. But still the job not complete yet.

LSG skipper KL Rahul broke his silence on the strike rate talk post T20 World Cup snub during the IPL 2024 match against KKR. He said during the toss:

"I'm not a best reader of a wicket, we just like chasing. The good thing is we have been able to adapt really well and quickly to the conditions, there have been quite a few brilliant individual performances as well. There's been a lot of talk about strike-rate, and T20 cricket has changed a lot in the last couple of years."

Kohli and Rohit's retirement should not be an entry ticket for KL's T20 comeback. He must observing everything from a corner and eye a place in the team.

If he can change his selfish, statpadding tuk tuk approach, he could become a great player with the talent he possesses.

I low key believe not having him helped us, just like not having Jaddu would had helped us.

He can't become a great player anymore.

I still remember the time during 2016 BGT when he scored back to back 50s in probably one fo the most challenging series. Sad to see his current state

With Axar doing better, Jadeja's days are numbered. It's a pity considering he was a great asset not too long ago

Doubt if he’s coming back to the T20I team. There are hungrier, and younger and equally talented players with higher potentia.

KL was good but he has underachieved and now he’s done.

Tbh, KL can absolutely nail T20 if he allows himself the mental transformation that Rohit underwent.

KL's ability to launch bowlers 360 degrees is only matched by Rohit. Nobody comes remotely close.

KL should also hold his spot in Tests and ODIs.

He and Gambhir won't fit together. Gambhir hates Stat padders and milestone seekers. There is.no bigger than Rahul. I still.remember him down on his knees in agony because he hit a six instead of a 4 against Aus in 2023 WC group stage game. A 4 wouldn't have ended the game and he could have made a hundred on the next ball. Instead he timed it too well and hit a 6 thereby winning the game. It was obnoxious. It was vomit inducing. I never wanted to see him in the Indian team after his mandatory maiden over in almost every WC game in 2022 T20 WC but his agony after hitting a 6 insteand of 4 showed me how.toxic this guy is. He was seen as a future captain and imagine how horrible his impact would be on budding cricketers. No thanks. IPL is the best place for this wannabe Kohli.

I didn't know KL had a SR of 140 - higher than both Kohli and Rohit in T20s.

If he has that SR while being selfish, I look forward to seeing his game when he plays with #intent

I remember that very well too. It was such a pathetic sight. KL Rahul is stat padding personified and then on top of that goes missing in most of the critical moments. People keep hoping he will play a barnstorming inning because the talent is obviously there but forever fails to deliver because of his loser mindset. Look at what happened to Punjab Kings and now LSG. I still can not believe he got away with statement like strike rate is overrated. That too in T20s. I pray that I never ever have to see him in Indian jersey.
