[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Mohammad Rizwan - Pakistan's white-ball captaincy watch thread

I respect @Rana , but we both are not the same.

Even our opinions differ. He saw something about rizwan back in 2021 and disliked him since and he has his reasons.

My reasons are vastly different.

Ever since Champions one day cup, I have noticed that Rizwan has become a complete has been.

Rizwan had a purple patch in t20 in 2021 and a purple patch in odi in 2023. In this period he was decent.

However afterwards he was totally crap with the bat.

Asia cup 2022 and wc 2022 : Went with a sr of 100 and 25 avg in both cups round about.

Then throughout 2024: Hes been going at 20-30 avg and operating at an 80 to 90 SR in t20.

Infact most t20 games are being lost solely due to him as an opener in t20. For example his 70 of 60 last game. Dude left the entire team to chase 130 of 60? It's madness.

Then for England test: He only avg 19? He performed on road pitches vs bangladesh but besides babar, who didnt perform in that series? England tonked 800 on this pitch with brooks tonking 300+? The moment spicy pitches were prepared he was useless?

Then for Odi: Hes been dreadful throughout 2024?

THEIR is nothing wrong with me using this data and critiquing him on it. A captain needs to be a performer to justify his selection in the team.

I give shan massof equal flack as well and I do not give cresit to shan for England series wins when squad was decided by aqib, And sajid, Noman, Kamran and saud literally did 100% of the work while everyone else was useless.

ODI series win vs Australia in Australia
1-0 up vs SA in SA

This man is something else. Let's go Kaptaana! Ayub, Agha have been great finds under his mentorship.

A heated argument erupted between the South African batters and Pakistan fielders during the 2nd ODI.

Rauf made a comment after the last ball, which did not sit well with Klaasen.

The umpires intervened, urging the players to move on.

One big criticism in this 2nd ODI vs SA is the fact that he hasn't used Saim.

Riz is spot on taking reviews tonight!

Rizwan’s use of DRS in the PSL was often comical, raising legitimate questions about his attentiveness and ability to judge the line of the ball from behind the stumps. However, the moment he took over as Pakistan’s captain, he transformed into a DRS maestro. Calm, composed, and strategic, he waits until the last possible second to call for a review, showcasing sharp decision making under pressure.

As a captain, Rizwan has had a dream start to his tenure, leading the team with precision and poise. Today, Pakistan stands on the brink of their third consecutive ODI series victory overseas under his leadership, an incredible achievement! One can’t help but wonder why we didn’t make him captain two years ago. Here’s hoping for another memorable milestone today, InshaAllah!

Take this! This series victory is dedicated to all the RizBar haters. Whether it’s headache pills, burnol, or anything else to ease your pain, make sure to order it online today or head to your nearest pharmacy!

Tremendous captaincy and DRS acumen.

Proven me wrong but the key is can he do it in the big boy ICC trophy games?

Let's see if he wins us an ICC trophy then Will be a legendary decision to make him captain..

Look at this glazing.

But yeah I agree

Thanks to brainless selections by Aqib.
Brother with all due respect, that's just an excuse.

Credit to rizwan for wins but if someone like saim performs or if the team loses, no need to find excuses. However yes rizwan has done well as an odi cap.

Atm hes been very solid in terms of getting results for odi but rubbish in t20.

What's your take. Cresit to rizwan or credit to Aqib? And who's responsible for t20?

@Mamoon @Rana @RidiculousMan @gazza619 @emranabbas @TheSultan @RedwoodOriginal @mango_bite77

What's your take?

Personally it's both. Aqib is killer for odi and test for selections and it's good he has chosen a 15 since he refuses to let rizwan select the 15, it's good since babar had too much power and chose rubbish.

But rizwan has been a terrific onfield captain as well.

For t20 same, Aqib has made rubbish decisions selection wise, but rizwan, babar and Agha in t20s are laughably bad and so far have been causing losses upon losses in that format.

For test it's aqib who saved shan though

T20 team selection has been pretty poor. You can tell it from the fact that they didn't even picked Saim for Australia T20 series and had to call him for Zimbabwe and South Africa series.

Rizwan as a batter doesn't make it to T20 side let alone as captain.

Maybe the management is too focused on CT25. This whole T20 team needs to be revamped before WT20 2026.

I'm fine with it atm. Main focus is ct and it should be Odi.

After seeing aus and sa wins, my feeling as a pk fan is now reinvigorated.

However I maintain my stance, Abdullah + Abrar + Niazi, Get rid of em. Abrar bubble will burst soon, As for Abdullah and niazi it's already bursted.

Better to bring in sajid khan for niazi since sajid is a better batter + bowler and tournament is in pakistan and uae so his bowling is useful.

Abrar can stay but a backup spinner is needed to keep abrar on his toes.

Abdullah needs to be booted for fakhar.

Offtopic, but usman khan should vanish for Saud as I believe saud is a much better batter even if he hasn't kicked off in odi yet.

A solid technical batter whos an amazing player or spin will eventually fire in the whiteball format.

Don’t read too much into this.

As a white ball batter he’s a liability. If both him and Babar continue to play like today there won’t be a blinder like Ghulam innings to always save us.

When he’s a liability how can he be a captain?

True test will come at the champions trophy when full strength sides will play.

Even today SA fielded their third rate bowling attack, against whom we struggled until Ghulam came and rescued us from the statpadding of RizBar.

This 100 percent

Brilliant bowling changes, wins in Australia & SA on par with Wasim Akram as 3rd best pak captain.

It’s quiet evident something has got to change in T20s. Credit to both Riz & Aqib for creating a positive team environment

So you give them no credit for laying a solid foundation. I agree that they can be too conservative and when I saw Babar trying to knock around Fortuin and Riz, struggling with Jansen but without them, we also wouldn't have won.

I think Aqib obviously is a big difference but in ODIs Rizwan clearly has lead well. You can’t fault him, the team picks up regular wickets. They haven’t yet been torched by a proper ODI batting approach by teams like Australia and South Africa in their own conditions, so he is doing something very right.

I do believe it’s one brutal reality check and everything will be back to Babar era.

In the meanwhile, im glad we have found 3 good cricketers in Saim, Kamran and Abrar. Team will become much stronger with the inclusion of Fakhar. Hopefully Tayyab can also find a role and enhance the batting.

Brilliant captain.
We just tried more players in the t20s.
I've loved how Rizwan has got Abrar going. No way Babar or Shaheen could give this confidence to build up players

Rizwan has made life difficult for many out there.

What an emphatic win over staffers. Captaincy was top-notch. The batting was superb. Those reviews were brilliant. Match-winners for me.

Excellent win, Rizwn the captain was brilliant, these two games a complete lumberjack for AntiRiz brigade

SA attack was 3rd tier, yet we were struggling until Ghulam came.

My point is what will happen against full strength sides of Aus/India/NZ/Eng/SA?

If we bat against them in the same way where RIZWAN and Babar aim to score 250-280 totals then we’re not going to win any tournament.

It will be a repeat of 4-5 ICC tournaments that Babar and RIZWAN have lost us in the last 5 years.

I saw no change in their approach to batting and see a repeat of the last 5 years.

But perhaps players like Saim, Fakhar and Ghulam can make a difference.

The Saffers were missing Rabada, the others guys are injured or just run off the mill. And when they won in Australia, I am al sure someone was missing. This is irrelevant, they played their best available team and we won. We are 5th or 6th best and that hasn't changed and until we whack Australia or Ind in a full tournament, that won't change.

If you watched his captaincy during psl you would know hes a good captain and will succeed in internationals
