[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Mohammad Rizwan - Pakistan's white-ball captaincy watch thread

Here is my honest take on this match, not that this is his overall captaincy.

Rizwan basically did nothing amazing as a captain. He batted poorly at number 4, not setting a tone or showing that he wants to score at a decent rate. Inviting pressure on the other batters who kept falling in an attempt to push the scoreboard. His batters had no game plan. Everyone just went out there to do what’s best for themselves. No one looked like they are batting according to a team plan.

His captaincy when bowling was pretty average too. He was nowhere to be seen when Australia were just smashing Pakistan bowlers easily for 6+ an over. He was suddenly given a chance to win this game out of some excellent fielding by Irfan, and a good double wicket over by Harris to follow up. This was his good fortune in the game that Australia lost 3 wickets for 0 runs.

Now that he was given a chance to show his captaincy mettle with 60 odd runs still to get with 4 wickets remaining, he clearly panicked and started doing too many things every ball. The plan to bowl at batters 7-11 was poor. Once again just hoping for luck more than actual cricketing sense.

Of course that little moment of fortune (3 wickets for 0 will gloss over his mediocrity as a leader, as it always has done in the past with him as a player. And his fans will continue to live in a fool’s paradise. However, those who understand and know this game will have seen enough to tell you that this guy is nothing amazing.

Also, the guy called Skulls pointed out that Rizwan’s record is something like 30 wins in 70 games (not sure what he was referring to), but he clearly said that ‘he doesn’t come from a winning background’. I could see why, Rizwan’s plan is to hope for the best whilst constantly reciting Durood behind the stumps. There is no actual cricketing plan.
hmm, turns out durood helped in winning 2 matches later on.

Knives were out after the first loss, and the haters are back in their holes after the two wins.

Don’t get too overconfident like your claim about SKY. You know how this will end.

looks like today its you who needs the plug cause the win has drained you and other hater
Let's be honest. Unless rizzu is the 2nd coming of Imran Khan, we all know how captaincy ends.

Misbah got lucky thanks to age. He was forced to retire from t20 in 2012. Had he been younger then he'd have been booted out from odi after wc 2015. Thankfully Misbah himself knew his time was up in 2015.

Rizzu's expiry date is 2027. However he'll be a more successful captain then Babar, I 100% agree on that.

Captaincy from most countries don't last. You have to earn Williamson, Imran Khan, Cummins, Pointing, waugh, Dhoni etc etc level respect to have that kind of staying power.

I have no issue with his theatrics adds fun to some boring patches in the match, and I praise him keeping his gaze lowered as our religions requires from us Muslims, and above all I admire how well he has balanced his religion with his commitment to his paid job.
Rizwan’s theatrics and game delaying tactics during his batting somewhat bother me, but I do not have much problem with it. In cricket, it is common for players to take a few extra moments before the next ball is delivered. Many do it to settle their nerves or break the bowler’s rhythm. What does bother me, however, is when opposition players, umpires, and commentators criticize him for it, as if he is acting against the spirit of the game.

Haters often latch onto these moments to run campaigns against him, casting a negative light on his accomplishments and style of play. Yet Rizwan has shown real growth here, clearly making efforts to adapt and refine his approach. Despite the criticism, his commitment to improving himself and playing with passion is something to admire.

As for following his religion, one thing I’ve come to understand as I’ve grown older is that all religions, at their core, encourage us to be good human beings and to do the right thing, no matter the cost. A person’s religion and beliefs are deeply personal, and whether or not we share those beliefs, no one has the right to criticize them. I have a deep respect for Rizwan and how faithfully he follows his religious beliefs.

At the same time, I believe that in any professional setting, it’s essential to acknowledge everyone, especially women, as equals. In many cultures, including Western countries, making eye contact is a sign of respect and engagement, particularly in professional interactions. While constant eye contact may not be necessary, a brief moment at the beginning and end of a conversation can go a long way in showing respect and recognizing a person’s presence and contributions.

Out of respect for his faith, Rizwan may prefer to limit eye contact, which is understandable. But in a professional setup, especially in a multicultural context, a moment of direct acknowledgment is often appreciated as it recognizes the other person’s role and presence. Women, like all colleagues, deserve to be treated with respect, and a moment of eye contact acknowledges not only their presence but their professional contributions.

Ultimately, Rizwan should continue to uphold his beliefs. I know he respects women deeply and holds strong values regarding conduct. However, finding a balance between personal beliefs and professional courtesies can enrich collaboration and understanding in any professional environment.

All Rizwan's haters must bow their heads in respect today. I'm not the biggest Rizwan fan either bc he's been a huge reason for the decline of our t20 cricket but man, what a skipper. The ultra aggressive captaincy seemed SO unpakistani. I've noticed the haters have gone a little quieter which is expected, but please give credit where credit is due. Instead I see them being pessimistic about the future. Bruh he just won you a series in Australia, instead of hoping for his demise in the future, give credit to the present and hope for the best. I was shocked seeing the field settings throughout the match yesterday

This isn't the thread for this so feel free take this to a more appropriate thread if you'd like to discuss, but I highly disagree with you. This is like saying compromise on your religious values to appease others. The whole point of the lowering the gaze is for respect so this isn't about disrespecting them. We've seen how Khabib has gone about this on a much bigger scale and no-one's ever said anything but instead have given him a lot of respect.

Khair, it's a longer discussion that's not for this thread

Great stuff by Riz. People that keep saying that this was a second string Aus team, that was only for the 3rd match. We almost beat them in first game, destroyed them in second. Plus lets not forget, we are used to losing at home against NZ B/C team, so to come and win here against Australia in Australia is a huge accomplishment.

Impressed with Riz - after many, many years (since Akram), I see a PAK captain with attacking instincts. May be Gillespie & Aquib has lots of in put in it, but in cricket, it’s the captain with ultimate authority. No matter what’s the play book written prior to Toss, it’s irrelevant- it’s the captain who is the field marshal.

I just don’t like WK to be captain- it’s in justice to the man, even if he is paid for two jobs. May be PCB can think of off loading some of Rizwan’s load - he is still the best glovesman for PAK, therefore he should keep in Test (where he is not captain), but for white ball, may be they should think of keeping with another WK (Haris or some other kid who can hit) and Riz plays as specialist No. 4.

Great job, could have won it 3-0, though I thought the opposite prior to the series. May be Aussies were a bit under strength, but still commendable and lots of credit should go to Riz - he would have been first man on chopping block had it gone other way. Credit where it’s due.

Australia were very ordinary in this series. They could have easily lost the first game as well had it not been for Pat Cummins heroics. Jake McGurk looks like a hack, zero footwork, there is no way he will survive on a sporting pitch against an international quality attack.

Their fielding was below par this series.

Really easy to call anyone ordinary to belittle a team's performance. McGurk looks like a hack but still dominated his own people in domestics. I think he still has a great t20 career ahead of him. Shaheen made him look clueless. Pak made Aus look clueless. They outperformed them, outclassed them, and annihilated them

It's insane how some Pakistan haters who would be in awe of Australia's team, now say their bench strength and their domestic structure are trash and act as if Australia are some minnow team. How pathetic. Give credit where credit is due or beat it with your negativity. We won now suck it up

Goat captain, Naseem in the final over. This thread was so lively in the odi series. Abh kya hua?

I'll give rizzu this, At the very least he didn't chicken out ans decided to open this time. But it's food he didn't open in the super over againat usa. Would have been out on the first ball 🤣

What a guy! Always learning and growing as a person. During the post match interview, Rizwan looked into her eyes with genuine respect and acknowledgment. That’s exactly what I was hoping for and suggesting in my post above! Loved every moment of it! Keep it up, brother!

Yes he need to understand he is playing professional sport and representing the country on international level. The way he was talking to lady interviewer previously it was embarrassing, looking little rude & arrogant. No one is asking him to flirt with ladies but at least you need to respond in a dignified way by being humble & with reasonable eye contact. Hope he improves with time

He looked in her eyes as if his strike rate improved to 105 from 90

It’s no secret that the shorter the game, the harder it is for Pakistan’s batters to consistently connect and hit big boundaries. That’s just not in the DNA of our current lineup. You really can’t read much into formats as short as 10 overs or less, that’s not what real, hard ball cricket is about. But let’s sit back and watch as fans overanalyze these games, exposing their ‘expert’ takes on the sport. Reading those comments is going to be fun!

Yeah great person he is

Keep going on 💪

Lol new criteria is to judge people in a 7 over match

Lets not go overboard after this super 7 over tape ball game. Rizwan did far better than expected as captain in the ODI series. However, Rizwan as a batter is still a problem in T20s.

It would have been nice if he had acknowledged her at the start of the interview, but it was great to see him do it at the end. Maybe someone from his team is keeping an eye on our comments here! :)

Needs to play lower down at 5, he is killing the powerplay with his slow approach.

Rizwan as a batter will always be a problem in T20s but I know Pakistan has always been poor in such reduced overs games, it's simply not their forte. Not sure when was the last time Pakistan won such game.

This T20I series is enough to expose Mohammad Rizwan lacking as a batter in this format and that too as a captain.... would be a tough outing this week!

Are people still calling him a good captain? He has no plan?

This game is all rizzu's fault. 15 of 5, but in the end his 16 of 26 is what left pakistan in this rut.

Garbage cricketer

@Major

Here's your update boss

Rizwan's international performance

2 wins, 3 losses. One courtesy of a legendary 16 of 26 balls in today's game.

Happy? I updates it for you

Fantastic stuff restricting Aus under 150 taking game to the last over.. unheard of Pak doing these things down under. Will only get better as captain.

After the dreadful inning against India . He should have left from t 20

He is a better captain than Babar, no doubt. But he should give up T20s and let some youger guy take his place and that should not be Mohammad Haris or Haseebullah. Don't we have any other aggressive keeper? What about Rohail Nazir?

Bro I’m soooo livid!

There is a Hadith that a Momin doesn’t make the same mistake twice

The Islamic republic of Pakistan keep making the same mistakes again and again!
The Name Momin means true Believer and it's why I'm proud of it. I'm a true Believer in what I do.

And I never repeat the sane mistakes 2x.

Rizwan means satisfaction, contentment, acceptance which can also be interpreted as being satisfied with the current filth he's producing.

His captaincy seems good
His batting is awful in t20s
Another Sarfraz?
Sarfaraz took the team to no 1 rank in t20 and achieved it by beating aus 2x in the trie series final.

Rizwan has lost 2 games back to back and in this game he was a major cause for the loss.

That 16 of 26 came to bite pakistan when they required 15 of 5. Even a run a ball 26 of 26 would have put pak at 15 for 15 needed in hindsight

Mohammad Amir speaking on his YouTube channel:

“Even though Mohammad Rizwan is so brave and is captaining like a warrior, in batting, he does seem stuck, because Mohammad Rizwan doesn't usually bat in such a hesitant manner as he has seemed to in the last two matches like he's stuck and batting cautiously. He should play freely; he's the captain; he should play with a fresh mind and perform.”

He's stuck because Australia keeps bowling on the offside to him.

In both t20 games he's tried his hardest to play his hoicks and legsweeps and pull shots but Spencer + Ellis make sure to bowl on the 3rd offstump line to him.

Too bad rizzu no longer has sri Lankan bowlers at his expense. No more bowlers who keep bowling into his body.

Amir should be the last person to advise any player.

A complete Dissertation can be written on his USA super over blunder.

The childish approach of a bowler to mess-up Super over : Empirical evidence from Dallas

So now we are celebrating a match we lost and we are exited that Rizwan took it to the last over with his 16 of 26 lol

The delusion is unreal, there are like a good few people close to who I spoke to about the match and they’re blaming the catches, basically what Rizwan said. A vast portion of casuals just don’t get it and live in another dimension.

The curators are at fault for rizzu a right handed batsmen not being able to play attacking shots towards his right hand side?

Har cheez leg pei?

Rizwan will not play the 3rd T20I against Australia, in his absence, Salman Ali Agha will lead the side.

Mohammad Rizwan is given a much-needed rest for the last encounter, or perhaps wants to avoid a whitewash in his debut T20I series as captain.

What a captain 🤣🤣🤣🤣

If agha manages to win here . Rizwan might have tough time in future to hold captaincy
Oh bhai it’s all planned

They will win with remnants of “our team will be even stronger and champion contender with Supperman Rizwan returning”

Or we can see it another way he gave away his place to try new combination. Something Bobby never did
Yeah that’s all nonsense

Not with this Babar or Rizwan in the squad

Trying a new combination? Babar was opening again

Let's agree with all the performance based arguments against Rizwan in this thread...

I don't understand "visceral hatred" towards individuals who are not responsible for selection decisions.

Any player would "want" to play at least because of financial rewards and reasons if not out of sincerety.

Who isn't this "visceral hatred" directed towards Mohsin Naqvi and his predecessors who enabled a system which allows "Rizwan" to keep on playing despite poor performances?

How is it possible for a player displaying absolutely abysmal performances for so long and still being selected in a particular format? Surely, the player is not responsible for the system which keeps on selecting and rewarding him?

Secondly, why do certain players live in people's heads rent free? "Jail Rizwan"? Do you think Rizwan reads or cares about your comments that you hate him so much that you want to put him in prison? Is there a filter in the brain which reads what people write? He is a Sportsman who is apparently turning on abysmal performances and still getting selected....Is he a murderer or Rapist who deserves to go to Jail???

Here's my take for this series.

Rizwan needs to whitewash Zimbabwe and brutally beat them down. Zimbabwe is a minnow that has in recent times failed to even qualify for recent and upcoming world cups/ t20 world cups/ Champions Trophy etc etc.

They need to hit them where it hurts.

The idea of pakistan losing to Zimbabwe and medicore cricket fans who are satisfied with 2-1 victories wasn't even considered a viable possibility a few years back. Now we.have fans claiming losing one off's aren't a big deal.

Zimbabwe in recent times have dealt pakistan painful blows with them beating us in a series 4 years back and having pakistan make a fool out of itself in super overs and pakistan losing to Zimbabwe in a world cup(wc 2022)

Any pakistani cricket fan who makes excuses should he scrutinized. 2-1 against a minnow when we're playing at 90% full strength is unforgivable.

We need to walk all over them and own them. Only then will I be satisfied for this series.
