If Kohli had stopped playing tests in 2019, then he might have been considered a test great by people.

Post-2019, he was not that special. There was a slow terminal decline in his form, esp. his struggles against the 'wobble' ball

Yeah but he wasn’t there in that 2020 tour win, which came against the likes of Smith and Warner. His decline also started from there unfortunately.

But he played a good innings in Adelaide pink ball test .he top scored 76 and dismissed via run out.he was reasonable as a player for one last time in that series. Other squad was completely his made up team.we have to give him that for building a strong core and taking care of it.

Sometimes you have to look at a batter beyond just their average and stats. Virat’s energy and impact in Test cricket—both as a batter and as a captain—are rated very highly worldwide. Given the option, most Pakistani fans (>90%) would take a peak Virat Kohli in their Test batting lineup over peak Root or Williamson. I do enjoy how posters here pretend otherwise in these forums and speak in hindsight now that he’s retired.
