[Report] ICC approves the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025 following an agreement between the PCB and BCCI [Post Updated #4739]

Personally I rather see the event get postponed to a future date than play the hybrid model. PCB can finish the renovation of its grounds and are ready to host the event when things calm down.

Hopefully the same thing happens in the upcoming Asia Cup. Either it gets postponed or the tournament happens at a neutral venue or Pakistan boycotts it if it's played in India.
Indefinitely postponed means, boards will not get the accounted money. The tournament will be played in SA, UAE or in India/SL.

Its not PCB who will decide the when and where will be Champion trophy held but ICC will take decision on 29 November .

PCB is backfoot now.

What you don’t realise is that you’ve destroyed the game people love, one day you’ll realise that too but your nationalist sentiment will stop you from admitting it.

Cricket isn’t any better for this t20 circus. International cricket will die. Cricket will be an Indian sport and you’ll be competing against each other rather than other countries.

Trust me, I know what I’m talking about here- you are killing cricket so you can make money in return.

History will remember this.
If not for t20, cricket would have died long ago.

No. history will remember the fact that Eng and Aus held the sport hostage for nearly a century.

The boards are free to walk away and play the sport as amateurs.

PCB could lead the way

England should've continued to control cricket. It was a mistake to allow BCCI/India to run this. They have ruined it completely.

Can you elaborate on what control means to you?

deciding who should play? controlling the revenue?

Kerry packer beat them in the 70's. They gave control in '87 WC for money.

So what is so good about england?

T20 was initiated by the ECB and BCCI was literally the last board to hope on T20 bandwagon. PCB and Pakistan embraced cricket with open arms.
Its only BCCI, ECB and CA that are giving any meaningful respect and value to Test cricket, rest of the boards would have ditched tests without the concept of WTC.
ODI too is only surviving with focus from BCCI. Else boards like PCB, WICB, BCB etc just want to play T20s all year round.

Go tell your boards and your fellow countrymen about who is killing cricket.
Since you can't remember actually facts from past 15 years ago, I think History has low chance of surviving the truth at how boards like PCB quickly abandoned long form cricket for quick bucks.
How is it India's fault that longer formats are not seen by Pakistani public? Is BCCI supposed to pay for Pakistani crowds in Pakistani stadiums?

It was highly unprofessional of the BCCI to inform the ICC just three months before the tournament that they wouldn’t be traveling to Pakistan, seemingly just to disrupt the 100-day countdown celebration. This level of pettiness from India is evident, yet you have the audacity to criticize the PCB. The BCCI had several years to notify the ICC if the Indian team wasn’t planning to travel to Pakistan.
Becos Pakistan was so professional about WC23.

Golden rule: He who has the gold makes the rules. Has been that way and will continue to be that way

1. A sign of colonized mindset
2. This is a sign of naïveté on display. No one just hands over the keys to the kingdom. BCCI earned it. Respect and power are not given, but are earned.
That is because BD is used to have someone control their lives, India, UK, China, Pakistan, now USA were all its bapu sometime in their existence. So they have no concept of freedom, independence and sovereignty. They want to continue to be ruled under by white people

Paise bhi dete raho and gaali bhi khaate raho
I watched a match in Lahore during india tour in 2004. In a match that Pak won, there were hardly anyone to watch the game. Even those who attended seemed to have just come to watch Indian team out of curiosity rather than any love for cricket

Pakistan stopped playing any test series with more than 3 matches long long time back. Even three match series are a very rare commodity now. Only home series of England is 4 test match series which says more about England's appetite for test matches than Pak's. Even England and Australia get only three test matches at home which hardly anyone attends as we saw during recent years. Less said better about BD and SL

Only boards which take tests seriously are BCCI, ECB and ACB. No one else wants to play it. But somehow it's BCCI fault that test matches are not prioritized.

India didn't invent T20. England did.

This is the worst kept secret. Worst thing that can happen to Pak is they agree to Hybrid model and the riots continue in Pak and they are forced to move the whole tournament. They will look like clowns
Even hybrid model is not safe considering the latest development and highly volatile situation in Pakistan. No team should take such a risk.

Interesting developments with the protests (apparently called off).

I have always believed that the PCB's top priority is to host the tournament. It's been a long time for the country and they will want to see it through.

The common sense option is to accept the hybrid model and then ask for a similar hybrid model in all Indian-hosted tournaments or not participate if the ICC refuses in the future.

A more interesting development would be if the PCB refuses to do the hybrid model or the BCCI refuses to participate completely but I doubt it.

The hybrid model will be voted on. Boards will likely go with the BCCI.

If PCB can get a vote in their favour for India hosted tournaments. Good on them.

What destruction? Every one is playing amongst each other.. there are more matches and more entertaining cricket being played. It's only you guys. Don't like it.. don't play with India and carry on..

Absolutely. You are totally correct. Right from 2004 test series, test matches in Pakistan were sparsely watched even for marquee test matches. Also a bigger question is, given test matches are loss making entities, how many boards can even afford to play test matches ? New Zealand, SA have already reduced their test commitments. Our game owes a debt of gratitude to t20 and the leagues, which might keep test cricket alive.

Pakistan should accept the hybrid model to end this drama and pretty politics by India.
Pakistan should not demand any hybrid model from India. It should continue to play cricket in India as Pakistanis don’t believe in hateful agendas of isolating their neighbors. We believe in peace and prosperity.

I think highly likely that Pakistan will accept hybrid model with one semifinal and final outside pakistan in the recent developments in pakistan. Indian case is stronger now as Srilanka A have also postponed their remaining matches.

Not agreed. We had a splended test series in 2005 in home with England. And the crowd was amazing throughout the test series which we won. Even we get houseful days. It all depends on how you organize it, market it and what is the excitement you create. Nobody gonna come to watch in a hot season in a shadeless stadiums to watch test cricket. PCB dont really give important to Test matches, they rest their premium players in test matches only to give them a run in a useless T20 series.

I will defer to your judgement, since I am an observer via media and TV. I remember Wasim and Shoaib having to ask people to visit stadiums when England/Australia visited Pakistan after a while.

If t20 is banned tomorrow, test cricket will die in Majority of the countries unless it becomes a government funded activity. Hosting a test match can cost anywhere between 500k USD to more than million dollars. This is just hosting price. Why do you think countries liek Ireland which is a developed nation hardly play any home test matches? All these people who snub t20 need to be thankful that it exists otherwise there will be very few tests played in the world.

There is a reason why PCB plays less test matches than T20s and ODIS. They have been doing for better part of three decades now. Ra Dom Anecdotes won't tell any story. Just see what the PCB is doing. If the test cricket were popular they will play more and make money

Yeah… Pakistan doesn’t play more than three tests in a series Sometimes two. I remember the next home tests that Pak play is not until next October or something. (Happy to be corrected). Largely because people are not interested in Test cricket in Pakistan.

After crushing the protest in Islamabad in such a swift manner, what are the chances that in Friday meeting Naqvi will quote this as an achievement as to how efficient Pakistan is in maintaining order? :p

Same who has killed hundreds of people in Pakistan is responsible for the security of teams😂😂.
Champions trophy should be shifted away from Pakistan.

It's all because of dull pitches, poorly scheduled fixtures, lack of marketing, and lengthy security checks at stadiums. Overall, Test cricket has declined over time. Even in countries like India, Australia, and England, you rarely see full stadiums for Test matches. Crowds only show up when the 'Big Three' teams play against each other. In Pakistan, you see some spectators when the team performs well or is close to winning a Test match.

Test cricket is likely to decline further in the coming years because people are no longer interested in spending five full days watching slow-paced games. The world has changed, and so have people's routines. With the rise of social media and smartphones, there are now more engaging and entertaining alternatives to Test cricket

I am not sure about the decline of Test cricket. Test cricket had a second coming in India after BCCI made it a priority and Kohli wanted Indian team to be best test team in the world. Esp after Indian team started getting good. Now pretty much the entire test team is a all format team.

Nah India and BCCI killed the game thats the cold hard facts

not sure even Hybrid models will be offered now. Other teams will also revisit their security plans in light of this incident

USA has an infrastructure to hold international cricket tournaments, Afghanistan doesn’t.

To you, infrastructure is limited to the stadium.
Did I ever claim that a stadium is the only form of infrastructure? What kind of "magical infrastructure" are you referring to that supposedly prevents Afghanistan from hosting any cricket series in their own country, even after receiving international aid? Is Afghanistan located on Mars? This is a country brimming with talent, where cricket is immensely popular, and which has been receiving aid from the US and India for the past 10–12 years, even before the Taliban government came into power—yet they still couldn’t build adequate infrastructure?

The truth is, without security, infrastructure cannot be developed. Even if infrastructure exists, no one would be willing to play there without guaranteed safety. Security is the foundation, the first stepping stone; everything else comes secondary. That being said, Afghanistan clearly does have infrastructure. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be producing so many talented players, wouldn’t have won the Asia U23 Cup, and wouldn’t have delivered such impressive performances in the T20 World Cup.

In fact, look at how Pakistan struggles against Afghanistan nowadays, even without Naseem Shah in their lineup. By that logic, Afghanistan’s infrastructure is arguably better than Pakistan’s because, at the very least, they are delivering results.

So, instead of using vague arguments, be precise about your "infrastructure" claims. What I stated—the 'security concern'—is an officially acknowledged reason given by the ACB. Opinions alone don’t change reality. Arguments need to be backed by specific evidence and reasoning to hold weight.

As per reports:

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is facing uncertainty as Pakistan risks losing its hosting rights over escalating political unrest and safety concerns.

The situation has been further complicated by Sri Lanka's 'A' team, which cut short its ODI series against Pakistan Shaheens, leaving midway through the tour due to safety concerns.

Isn't protest over now?

Regardless, that’s not how the international media will see it, and it’s done nothing but damage Pakistan’s reputation. I don’t understand why PTI feels the need to cause chaos every few months. Just as Pakistan’s image starts to improve, these PTI organisations create more mess to tarnish it again. Honestly, it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s intentional.

As per reports:

As per the ICC’s contractual obligations, the tournament schedule was to be announced at least 90 days prior to the event to ensure adequate preparation time for all parties involved. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had proposed a draft schedule for the Champions Trophy, suggesting it take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025.

The delay has particularly impacted JioStar, the ICC’s official media partner. The broadcaster is reportedly unable to fully capitalize on the tournament’s commercial potential due to the missed schedule announcement deadline.

The PCB has expressed frustration over the delay. According to reports, a PCB official has contacted ICC CEO Geoff Allardice to voice concerns about the ongoing uncertainty and reiterated Pakistan’s intent to host the tournament in its entirety.

Wow! The meltdown here has been epic. Last 15 pages - constant bickering , going round in circles again and again. Posters in denial and being delusional without accepting reality.

Way back - a few months back around Aug or so after the Ind elections when NDA got in power with TDP support- I had posted that Ind is not traveling to Pak period and that the Ind gov had already made that decision and got TDPs full backing. After that it was a mere formality. I had mentioned at the time that the info I got was from higher ups in TDP and it was pretty much set in stone. A lot of posters here disagreed and were in denial and I said I would mark their posts and well here we are! You would be naive to think pcb did not know about this. Totally naive. Everyone in Ind political circles knew that pcb was aware and they were giving bombastic statements for local pak public. And uae was the preferred option for hybrid model as rains in SL made it a risky option.

And so we are here now. All posters who disagreed with me saying emphatically Ind will tour Pak - where are you now?? Pcb is not in a position of strength- never were. They should have silently opted for hybrid model. But now having gone gungho - even that is shaky. The while tournament can be pulled out and that is not even a fringe thought now. Easy for all you posters to say to heck with bcci snd Ind etc etc. Reality is its not your personal money and also when other boards refuse to play if Ind is not there - pcb is getting a very big reality check. And they knew about it.

Just stating the reality as i have been as before a few months back.

Hahahahahah......

So you're telling me all that fake bravado for tens of pages on this thread was for absolutely nothing. What a huge surprise! Not. :ROFLMAO:

Three words ring to me that I have posted already somewhere on this thread..

I agree. I remember you made the post! The sad part is if someone were to just mention it as a matter of fact way, he/she would be taunted and called names.

Rashid Latif believes an agreement has already been reached between ICC, BCCI and PCB

“The apex body of international cricket and the two boards have agreed to go ahead with a hybrid model,” Latif told RevSportz. “The PCB will not be stripped of the hosting rights, but India will play their games in a different country. A semi-final and the final would be played outside Pakistan if India make it to the knockout stage.”

“If I were the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, I would have said the same thing. We had the same situation in last year’s Asia Cup, and it was played in a hybrid model."

“The ICC will give around $64-65 million to PCB as a hosting fee. Pakistan might earn more money if they agree to the hybrid model. I don’t think Pakistan will say no. The PCB and the ICC will soon make an announcement."

As if you didn't know!! Nobody even in the pcb circles thinks they can arm twist Ind or bcci. They absolutely know that. Its all show and theatrical dramatics for the gullible local pak population. But they have bitten more than they can chew and probably didn't expect the possibility that the whole tournament can be pulled out of Pak.. Can guarantee you internally the PCB brass is working overtime to atleast ensure the hybrid model stays irrespective of all the public talk

If ICC can implement the same method for Pakistan matches in ALL upcoming ICC events in India then I'm down with this.

All the world saw and is still seeing is Pakistanis having a tough time accepting the bitter fact that they don't have the aukaat to host an ICC men's senior tournament.

And now they've been vindicated.

Say goodbye to Pakistan vs India in ICC tournaments…
Not in a million years will we ever play Bharat..

And pull out of useless ICC for good now

And the world seen how India was crying because they were left out of the Champions Trophy and got to a point begging for hybrid model. India very lucky due to pakistans internal issues they might get a chance to play the champions trophy.

It’s funny how Indians are taking credit for the protests in Pakistan and trying to link them to the Champions Trophy, acting like it’s because of them if the tournament doesn’t happen here.

Always looking for somethinto and begging to claim credit

Pcb have to be smart if they can increase hosting fees and go with hybrid model then every body should be happy .Hopefully they prepare schedule which will not impact pak travel fatigue

BCCI spokespersons are back in full force and feel giddy after the recent events in Pakistan. I dont want to say about the cult/party much but they have always damaged Pakistan, be it protesting when CPEC was starting or be it when champions trophy is being held. They always hit the “right” timing.

Anyway, like i said, whatever happens, PCB has my full support and appreciation for having a spine. I hope we never play India again or visit them ever again if they force us for hybrid model.

Feeling giddy and happy over a bad happening in another place is a behaviour that is exhibited by dehati aurat which is an infamous term that was given to india in leaked cables between Pakistan and American govt. This title has passed all trials of time.

BCB now will support PCB in this regard i think . Its totally an unfair stand from India.
Bro every body knows pcb doesn't stand a chance if it comes to voting Better sense should be prevail and take as much $$$ they can

Again nothing to do with Pak internal prroblems. Pcb knew from day 1 after Ind elections that Ind team will not visit Pak. And whether you me or anyone likes it or not the fact is there is no CT without Ind. You can chest thump as you want - does matter one bit. Thats the the hard cold reality.

The world saw India begging for a hybrid model
Don't worry now hybrid option is also not a choice for pakistan.

Its either entire champion trophy outside Pakistan or postponed this tournament.

Haha what a Epic Humiliation .

Earlier PCB"hum Hybrids model ni accept karenge "

Now PCB to ICC - Sir Hum Hybrid model ke liye ready h wo to bus apni awam ko khush karne ke liye chota sa frank tha .

ICC - absolutely not. Pakistan is not suitable to host any ICC tournaments .

@Rajdeep how's the Josh? Or panga chahiye kya BCCI se ? :kp

Voting is not going for Hybrid model but full champion trophy outside Pakistan .

BCB don't have any option but to obey the order .. :dw

The choice is either CT in Pakistan or end of all India vs Pak games in ICC events moving forward…

Take your pick and stick with it
