If Pakistan don't bat again, South African will chase 240 in 40 overs... I would take this over Pakistan batting the next 10 imo.

Shame - if Akmal was still there it would be 260 in 40 overs.

I watched a lot of John Player League - English 40 overs cricket - and 240 was a winning score. But in modern cricket it's like 140 in a T20.

We complain about a guy who makes 60 off 80 every time!!! When the other 6 batters can't bat the other 220 balls between them. Sums it up!!!

Apparently being 150/3 after 30 overs created so much "pressure" that the "talented" Maqsood and Akmal were forced to throw their wickets away.

I agree with this 100%. There was no pressure at the moments those wickets were so easily given up. No Excuse.

When is play going to start again
its still raining.

5.11 pm: It is start-and-stop stuff here in Auckland as the covers have been requested once more by the umpires as the rain begins to fall at a heavier rate. The players are making their way off the ground. Hopefully it is another passing squall.. If Pakistan do not bat again, then South Africa will be looking to chase down a total of 240 in 40 overs as per Mr. Duckworth and Lewis.

150/3 is a good score. However Misbah was going along at a strike rate of 60, forcing other batsmen to play aggressively, and if they don't the innings will move along at Test pace. These batsmen need time to get their eye in but Misbah batting so slowly too doesnt afford them the required time to knock the ball around.

I think match mat be reduced to 45 overs a side. I do not see us making 50 runs in next 5 overs.
I would take the 240 in 40 deal

9 off 30 balls coming in at 6 an over is unforgivable.

Puts pressure on other bats.. Really poor knock.

there was no pressure.

Akmal had 13 overs to play

when maqsood came in he had 20 overs to play.

How was misbah putting pressure on them?

We werenot chasing down a total

There you go. If we lose all of remaining overs where Misbah was planning to hit BIG, then we are not getting those overs anymore.

Let me guess Misbah top scores again and this thread is full of fools hating on him?

Yup..the stupidity level on display here is ....well...not surprising actually..the likes of Afridi,Akmal only represent the maximum intelligence/rationality the general public here is capable of.

Misbah's innings were inexcusable but Akmal and Maqsood are idiotically threw their wicket away.

These misbah haters will never understand...shows how little they understand of cricket.

I dont think we will bat again... 240 from 40 for SA.

We got the 300 after all:uakmal

Did YK get out because of pressure.

He was completely beaten by a ABCD delivery. Not like he was trying to hack it because of the slowing RR. Everyone else threw away their wickets as well.

Mazhar Arshad says if Pakistan don't bat again. South Africa's targets on D/L method:

240 in 40 ovs
204 in 30 ovs
157 in 20 ovs

i will take 204 in 30 happily :P

Do they consider 1 hour time extension for World Cup games or do we lose overs straight away?

No the other batsmen are just crap.

It should have been 260 off 40 had Akmal not missed his morning medication.

I'm going to sleep.

Hopefully this match will be washed out and we escape with a knockout game against Ireland.

Now that will be exciting.

A shortened game will also hopefully prevent the NRR from sliding. But 300 does have psychological weight unlike 240.

We are in habit of returning batsmen to form. De Kock can be crucial in a shortened game.

They require 6 an over. That will put pressure and dont forget if SA loose wickets and it rains again, they could be in trouble so they are a lil screwed both ways

5.40 pm: The covers have come off again, but I know how this game works so I will leave it at that, for now. Have a fresh update, and it appears the game will begin in about 20 minutes, with the overs reduced to 47-overs a side.

There is no way this game will be washed out, Rain is only forecast till 7 p.m, which means RSA will surely bat. Pakistan will be better off if it stops raining ASAP.

47 overs would mean RSA can get away with overs of Tahir and a part timer... with wet ground conditions Spinners culd have got some stick

Madly hitting time . Do or die

This sucks. 3 overs of Tahir/Duminy/AB they will now not bowl. 7 bowlers of Steyn/Morkel/Abbott. Ughhhh I was looking forward for Pak to play those 3 medium/slow paced bowlers

That is the worst result. I would have gladly not batted, now we need to go besirk to reach a good score off 47

So lets say Pak score 260 in 47 overs
will SA chase 261 in 47overs or different target

Yep, Umer Akmal would have not lost his wicket

Do you understand even the very basics of this game???

In an innings of scheduled duration of between 41 and 50 overs, the batting powerplay may not be completed later than the end of the 40th over. Should the batting side choose not to exercise their discretion, their powerplay overs will automatically commence at the latest available point in the innings (e.g. in a 50 over innings, this will begin at the start of the 36th over).
