Lunch.... great batting by jamsheed and hafeez and jamsheed showed that he can start slow and build on it which is great. We dont need first ball wonders.

Irfan struggles to bowl 10 overs..how'll he last 5 days of tests?I'd have sit him due to his fitness..he'll face same problem bowling in SA that he faced in England..pitch will be hard and won't help his run up etc ..that's what Amir Sohail said too.

I have never seen before cricinfo provinding text commentary for first class warm up matches or i am wrong.
 
Can it get better than this?

At lunch in SA, Pakistan have scored 100 runs without losing any wicket with one batsman on 50 and the other on 45. Amazing!

hahahah warra guy picking on anything and hoping pakistan fail.....let him bowl 5 overs hafeez and ajmal will make up his share no need to worry :D

Well thats the decision made by team management, and they will get a perfect chance to see what irfans, stamia and endurance is like when he plays this tour match.

Its a bit strange that its 11 v 11, usually in tour matches they let 12-13 player (obviously still 11 players on the field)
 
Awesome opening partnership by the duo so far . From what I can remember , Abbot is seriously quick .

Usually SuperSports televises FC matches . Would have loved to watch this .

do you really think they'll make a turning track to get owned by Idone?especially when they don't have a quality spinner..We are going to get a seaming pitch most likely and Ajmal won't much come into play.

:facepalm:..The pitch they've made for the warm up is a flat one you genius..!!!...
This never aint the condition which they will be going to face for the real deal from Feb 1 onwards.... So dont hope that they can get used to the conditions. :kami!!!

Let us take the pitch out of the equation

Great start...tour match 100/0 and will certainly get 2 days of batting practice before unleashing our bowlers...

What is better than to get into good form now before finding form in 3 back to back test matches
 
I saw robin peterson getting some assistance in one of the games i think that on day 4 and 5 our spinners could get some assistance.

Its still match practice, the test batsmen gain confidence by scoring runs in souht africa same applies to the bowlers, there is no advantage gained by playing squad members over the test members in the only game before the test series

Maybe they should have planned better and made 2-3 warm up matches, so then we could have tested the bench strenght

It will be Fast and Bouncy track.. And dont think Simply bowling Irfan for Just 5 overs will do it..:facepalm:.. he'll surely have to bowl many overs.... And if Irfan is picked up only to bowl just the 5 overs.... why should he be even selected tin playing XI.... It would be Better to play an extra Batsman....:ajmal

yes our fast bowlers are capable of exploiting seaming friendly conditions so they'll have that in mind but then again their batting has proved in England's bowlers friendly conditions against their top bowlers and in Australia as well..personally I think they'll take risk and make green tops because our batting isn't that too good even on flat roads..

welll duhhhh ...... are you outta your mind we will have umar gul or have you forgot that aswell as junny and irfan .....ajaml and hafeez im sure thats more than enough overs in a day that they can all share without too much problem n who says SA batsmen are gonna have an easy time against our seamers let alone spinners... thanks for pointing out they are bouncy tracks how tall is irfan again errrm errrm eerm

Parnell is useless, and he just won't go away. The Ishant of SA. Taking up a space in which a real talent like Gqamane should have been playing.

The spinners should do ok in East London. There's plenty of pace and bounce, but it's a slower and lower pitch than the ones where the test matches will be played.

SA top order is very weak the openers i mean.....smith aint got a clue how to play anymore if you bowl on the off stump constantly ....and alviro peterson aint got the class to last against our bowlers!!!

Either Misbah does not know jack or he is keeping you out of the team as well as the captaincy slot because of your brilliant knowledge, which way is it my friend? :misbah

Dude he has been captaining the side for 2 1/2 years, so I would count on it that he knows more than you...and if you can be concerned about Irfan's fitness, I am quite sure he has thought about it as well.

So relax and just chill, Pak test team will give it their best and hopefully we will at least win a test or even better, draw/win the series

Kallis, Amla, Philander and Steyn will decide which direction this series will head towards...

I cannot see them all four having three poor outings consecutively in test matches...

For us Hafeez, Ajmal, Junaid Khan and Younis Khan are the ace players but, there is uncertainty around there performances in swinging and seaming pitches...

yeah that's why he didn't play Haris or Zulifqar Baber or comeback making Wahab even in a the dead rubber 3rd ODI against India..that was indeed too genius for us naive..

Have you ever heard of trying to white wash a team?

For the last 2 1/2 years Misbah has been captaining well enough to have become one of our most successful captains...he must have some sort of a brain to have accomplished that, don't you think?

There is only one practice match in this tour before the tests start, I see no issues with playing the best XI...unless it was a 13 a side tour game, this was pretty much expected, so just chill and enjoy the 100/0 start, don't act too sad for such a start. You are not Indian, are you?:akhtar

the recent ones..Hussey's knocks in UAE are the prime examples..he was clearly struggling before that..then I can recall Punter's knocks against us in tests in 2010..he was struggling before that and than this guy Elliot in 2009 Champions trophy..

Lol at hussey and punter. You're talking about greats who suffered from temporary loss of form. Elliot from 09 is the only example you could come up with.

And Did he succeed in that against The Indians..????.. He had his full team.. Not even a single change was being made from the previously matches which they won.. then also he din manage to pull off a white wash...and he din even contribute with the bat in those ODI's:danish..

So he would have been that genius:ahmed who wasn't able to pull off an easy 3-0 whitewash.... :facepalm:.....

I find it strange that so many people are concerned over Irfan's ability to bowl long spells/many overs in a match.

He has played 35 first class matches, and bowled 5780 balls.

Divided by 6 that get's you 963,33 = 963,2 overs.

If you divide 963,2 overs with 35 first class matches you get = 27,52 overs

Divided by two innings (just go get an average), you get 13,76 overs per inning.

Now this number can vary a lot as not all games go to the last inning and sometime the last inning is just a short target.

But the fact that he has bowled 27-28 overs per match over 35 matches should give us som indication that he has done it before. YES, there is difference between 4 day first class cricket and 5 day international test cricket.

But I think most people here are exaggerating. I am sure :irfan can bowl well in test matches :)

I was a bit surprised to see that, especially when Gqamane's name was on one of those advertising posters for this warm up game.

Here is a raw theory from me:

South Africa have plans to select Gqamane in the 2nd or 3rd test, hence they decided not to play him today to use him as a surprise factor in the test series :13:

East London is the place where the warm up is going on right..
I meant the pitches for the real Test matches from feb 1 onwards... I dont think those pitches would assist the spinners.right.. !!
 
Azhar has scored only 2 runs in 21 Balls, Tuk Tuk approach working till now.

im sorry but I can only assume you havent watched much cricket or are not as knowledgeable about the game as others on here. Let me enlighten you in simple language that you can grasp:

warmup match...only warmup match..no others so play test eleven so they get time in middle no matter the conditions...as we havent played test cricket for few months..

ub samaj aya hay yaa abhi bhi adil or haris ka baja bajana hay aap nay?
 
LOL, come on guys this is just a warm up game, on a irrelevant pitch.
The pitches Pakistan will be playing on will be totally different from this one.
The East London pitch is similar somewhat to SUB pitches. Lol that was very clever from CSA.
 
Azhar Ali's form is a real concern. He struggled in ODIs against India and here he just made 2 from 22 balls.

Hopefully he plays better in second innings if he get's a chance to bat again.
 
YK gets out , pakistan batting is a worry and tuk tuk is not helping at all. 3 wickets in the session in 19.2 overs and only 35 added.
 
Azhar paid the price for blocking too much, i hope he performs in the Test Matches though.
