Shoaib Malik Support & Performance Watch

Should Malik be in the plans for the 2019 WC?

With Hafeez being suspended a slight window of opportunity for Malik via senior card

lets hope this doesn't happens but Malik League Jiyala's holding their breath :))

Good Idea! Kiwis will be happy if Pakistan include Malik. Free wicket for them and they don't have to work hard for it! :))

By the way where is Shoaib Mirza? Not playing domestic after watching pitch with grass and overcast conditions? :))

What is Malik's record in tests in Asia? HATER!

In no universe, should hafeez be a pick over Malik. I hope he is back for the World Cup squad.

Lolwut? Even if Malik does make a comeback, he'll fail miserably like he always does and won't make the WC squad. Hafeez can still fix his action and someone like Hammad Azam will be a better alternative to Malik, even Afridi will be better.

We predict what will happen in selection, fair or unfair is another matter

If Malik plays the game vs us, the streak is over.

That prediction is wrong too. Malik is finished and a recall will only further solidify that statement. He won't be picked for the WC.

You might be on the point here. Shoaib Malik hasn't played India in ODI WC yet. I sincerely hope that is the case [on bold]. Pakistan-India has become very predictable match in ODI WC. :afaq

Ofcourse he will be picked. Selectors have a habit of picking TTFs for major tournaments.

On a serious note credit where due Malik did have some part in the development of Haris Sohail But with this innings may be the disciple has put another nail in the coffin of Master :))

So it looks like Malik won't be in the side which tours Bangladesh (if anonymous PCB sources are to be believed). Aged 33 is this the last we've seen of Malik in a Pakistan shirt?

It is good thing that he is not considered. Let's give trial to youngsters. Pakistan team was already weak in batting line under the captaincy of Misbah. After the retirement party, youngsters with their lack of strike-rotation and inability to play spinners would force PCB to consider Shoaib Malik eventually.

Until then, let's Shoaib Malik play CPL, Natwest T20 Blast, BBL, and possibly some NZ T20 league. The more he stays away from the team the more it is better for him, that way there will be no blame on him. :jf

Malik scored a 8 ball 50 in a Super 8 final took 4 catches and made 3 runouts #legend

Guys also don't forget he took his Sialkot Stallions to a 10 year unbeaten run and they were the undefeated champions of ICL, IPL, Super 8 T20, Big Bash, Natwest T20.. The ICC was even considering to induct Sialkot Stallions into the T20 WC as an separate team.

Such is the class of the man :14:

Cricket stadiums used to be covered until Malik came about and they had to remove the tops!

In an unrelated incident, Neil Armstrong found a cricket ball on moon.

Still remember the day Malik won us his 3rd consecutive world cup with a triple hundred in the final.Shame on Pcb for not selecting this legend

In an unrelated incident, Neil Armstrong found a cricket ball on moon.

There was an interview with Tendulkar, Dravid and Ganguly in attendance. The compere asked who did you guys idolize while growing up and try to model your batting on. All three of them shouted in unison, "Malik!"

The man, the legend :14:

I saw him playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I asked my wife to come look at him. Now I never saw myself play, but I felt that this player is playing with a style similar to mine, and she looked at him on Television and said yes, there is a similarity between the two...his compactness, technique, stroke production... it all seemed to gel!

Sir Donald Bradman on Malik.

I heard it the other way around ...

I saw him playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I asked my wife Sania to come look at him. same here cant wait to see him hit another double hundred in ODI's. The last one he hit was beyond my imagination!

The 250 he made in 2005 AD ranks as an all-time great innings.

nothing compared to his triple hundred against warne mcgrath and co. His six into the stands off mcgrath was a classic shot!!

Those were brilliant innings. :14:

What was PCB thinking by not including him earlier, somewhere in the year 2002?

Instead PCB chose with Mr. Abba Jabba Jabba with his spectacular innings in that Test series, not to mention this WC he has proved that his batting is the reason carried Pakistan team to QF single-handedly but lost due to pathetic bowling attack aka Iran, Wahab, Rahat, Sohail. :sanga

Hail Younus Khan, a match-winner batsman, selfless man, team-mate, smiley-smiley man :jf

1. Test one: Short summary here: Brilliant 50 twice in the most green pitch against Australia :14:

2. Test two: Short summary here: hard-fought 5 runs in first inning and a golden in the hardest bouncy track. :14:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/64002.html

3. Test three: Short summary here: Despite of his efforts to win the match single-handedly with 9 runs total combined but thank to bowlers, we lost once again. :jf

#Everyone here, let's just appreciate his contribution for the team in his language, "Abba Jabba Jabba". :14:

alright ive had enough of you guys taking the mickey out of this legend. His ultimate innings was his 125 vs the windies on a doctored jamaican pitch. I remember that loser Moyo and mr team man getting out for ducks. Malik showed them all how to play!! Legend!

How is this thread still operating?

This man has been past his prime for yeaaaaaars. Let him stick to CPL and TV analysis

I hear he's ben apoointed as a special adviser to dhoni for the new IPL season. To offer his wisdom.

Malik is done with pak cricket. He is focusing on coaching Indian batsmen these days. His assistant Mr. Tendulkar is pleased to have in him share his secrets

So much for being made the new captain eh, Mamoon? Even the PCB realizes that he's a TTF extraordinaire. :malik

Have to hand it to PCB for making a bold statement for once. Praise the Lord.

Have to hand it to you for making a U-turn so smoothly. I wish I could have the same skills, wouldn't have gotten a driving ticket.

Not too long ago, Malik was given your vote of confidence to be the next captain.

Yes, but I don't have a say. I'd personally have brought him back as skipper, but I'm content that the PCB is looking forward and among the young players, Azhar is the ideal option and I'm personally looking forward to how he does.

Shafiq would've been my choice but he hasn't done well in ODIs.

License you mean, you get a ticket when you don't make a smooth U-turn.

Malik would have been awful as captain with all his politicking and the small matter of him not being able to get a decent score in God knows how long.

Malik is misunderstood actually, he never got the respect from the seniors in the first place. Malik-Lawson combo was the way forward in LOIs but both were sent packing prematurely. Ijaz Butt loved firing people.

That takes me back to the glory of Pakistan team, the year of 2009.

What Younus Khan did will never be forgotten in the history of Pakistan; should be up there with Tendulkar, after all, he is the man who can perform in any formats; T20, ODI, Test [in dead-tracks].

Remember the way he saved the match from being whitewashed completely. If it wasn't for Younus Khan in 3rd Test against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, who knows what would have happened. Credit goes to hard-fought innings totaling 2+19=21; remarkable legendary performance. After all, he is king; Mr Abba Jabba :jf

You're not actually serious? Please tell me you're joking..

joking? are you serious? How come your unaware about this news? Malik is the best cricketing mind in Pakistan which makes him automatically better than an Indian. I read that Dhoni personally phoned him up to request his presence at the next IPL.

Yea i heard abt this in the news apparently they were getting Vivian Richards to be the mentor but then Malik agreed to come and they told richards to get lost.

Malik T20 record as captain

Played 17 - Won 12
Batting avg. 31
Bowling avg 16

Malik ODI record as captain
Played 36 Won 24
Batting ave 44
Bowling ave 42

I think what people forget also is that during his captaincy there was a mass exodus of top players to ICL (Yousuf, Razzaq, Rana, Nazir etc)

That only happens across the border (in India). In Pakistan hate prevails

Stop making stupid comments. India have discarded their maliks for good I.e nehra yousuf Pathan

India even discarded world cup winners like yuvi. Only we keep asking for tried and tested failures

What's his overall record?

Slight sample selection bias there my friend

Phenomenal numbers.

I remember Malik had an awful team and still he made them look dangerous.

This was also years ago.. Is Malik the same player or has he regressed with age. He's 34 now.. How many years has he got left? He'll be 39 at the next World Cup. Do we really need that?

We have four years to blood a new generation of match winners and we want this guy back..

Really?

as to your post before. no sample bias as I am expressly pointing to his captaincy record

anyways I feel Malik should be the t20 captain and should have been odi captain for a few years and then reviewed. but not that Azhar is the captain we must back him

but still think he should never have been removed from t20 captaincy

Agreed. Also, the logic that you will be 39 by the next world cup is pretty poor. If you are fit, age does not matter. Nasir Jamshed and Misbah are 2 good examples. Floyd Mayweather is 38, and is still rocking. Malik has been fit through out his career, and there is no denying that he will remain fit for the next 4-5 years.

I just don't think Azhar was ready for captaincy

LOL at the mayweathe comparison..

IMO age is a huge issue in cricket. Batting is reflex game and the older you are the more likely it is your batting will regress as you just dont have the reflexes to cope.

Misbah is a massive massive outlier to the norm, as is YK.

Tendulkar and Ponting both became half the players they were at 35. Yes I believe Malik will remain fit, and I have always liked him as a player/believe he hasnt done his talent justice but that train imo has now passed.

We need to focus on the next generation of Maliks and ensure they are maximised to their potential. As one of the posters above said hes an inferior hafeez.

As a captain and as a cricketing mind I completely agree with you.

But my issue is purely that he doesnt get into our team on merit (neither do others like Nasim and Afridi but thats a different argument) and age isnt on his side.

Its a shame but in Malik and Azhar Mahmood we have 2 very fine all rounders who have been unfulfilled talents. Unfortunately we cant turn back the clock.
