LOWEST S/R .... in T2-0... worse that Misbah and Misbah was dropped based on S/R!! You say you are not fan???

Fair comment...although its worth noting that Misbah was dropped cos his SR was at around 80 this year...which is why I stated its better to look at statistics yearly rather than cumulatively...Misbah had a good 2011 but a poor 2010 and 2012...that 28 off 32 against England is what did it...Malik's SR was 115.90 that series...

Quite a few of our players have not looked good enough this year...Junior for instance has just finally picked up some form...but I never called for him to be dropped...

But what I will agree with is having a SR less than 100 is of course obviously not good enough...you make a good case in that it has been existent for far too long...

Not sure about the one score comment...Maliks already had a couple of decent displays this year...i didn't clamour for his inclusion when he was out of the side nor did I clamour for his exclusion now that hes in the team...suppose we'll just have to wait an see what he does over the next four games if we get that far...

I didn`t think I would say this but it is good to see him playing well for Pakistan . I just wish he can do this more often and against more teams .

Well played. Wrong time to get out. Credit to him for the recovery that should lead to a fighting score.

Form is temporary but being a very ordinary so called batsman is permanent. That pretty much sums what Shoaib Malik batting all about.

Malik did very well today. Stop blaming him for everything will you? We have a somewhat respectable total because of him!

Is this your standard of doing very well? Specially when your team needed you to do take the score to a respectable target.

How long he is being playing cricket? He is not a youngster who just made a debut.

I guess this pretty sums up malik's fan boys infatuation with him, meaning no matter what he does they will always think that he is the next best thing after slice bread.

Time to stop idolizing individualism or individual players (specialy when they perform like this) but start loving your team/country and what is best for it. In short time to grow up.

Why does it matter if Shoaib Malik is no Mike Hussey? We don't have anyone better than him in the domestics. It is not as if Pakistan has Kohlis in the domestics waiting to be selected. Instead, Pakistan has Akmals and Nazirs who are hit and miss.

Taking that into considering Shoaib Malik can have his time in this world T20. Talking only about T20 here.

well we got a tailender as an opener-captain.

Come again!

Too much dogma on both sides here...

Malik's innings was far from terrible today...him and Umar got us out from a hole that the top order put us in...we were 59-5...it was a pathetic showing from the top order...Malik and Umar were left with too much to do...

Saying that today was the day we needed Malik to push on...so I have no idea why some are saying this was a brilliant innings...a brilliant innings would have been him taking us to 150-160...he was dismissed far too early...the same goes for Junior...

Its been a shambolic effort from the team and the main culprit if Hafeez both with his toothless batting and captaincy...

This, was a good innings from Malik, not brilliant...needed to go on and got dismissed, he got us out of a hole and we had momentum, unfortunately he mistimed a reasonable shot (was trying to smash the ball over the fielder who caught him out, there was no fielder behind him) at the wrong moment, can't say fairer to a batsman coming in at 6.....forget his innings now, we lost the match and he's not to blame, we lost because our top order crumbled, simple as that, you don't come back from 49-5 or whatever it was in a t20 match. Onto Australia.

I agree with you...it was a good innings but not a brilliant innings...him and Umar did a good job getting us to a score at all...and yeah his shot wasn't a bad one...he needed to push the rate and it didn't come off...that doesn't detract from the fact that a brilliant innings would have been him guiding us to a good score...

He is in no way at fault for our defeat today and neither does it it on Junior...responsibility lies on the top order that have collapsed twice in succession now...

Its ridiculous that Malik haters are picking todays game to criticise him too...this when he was our best contributor with the bat...

Lol are you blaming him for todays defeat too?...

No but you should happy that he is excused because top order failed! :) According to you top Malik should only score when top order scores... but then BZ complains about him not getting enough overs.

I blame him for not scoring when he was in at 9th over.

I have issues with his (and umer's) batting order!

you play your best players at the top..and not the worst...

:afridi :hafeez :nazir

Lol don't put words in my mouth...I said he is no more to blame than anyone else for not scoring when the whole team performs...

So if he fails when others succeed then that is failure...if he fails when others fails then he has equal liability...when he succeeds when others succeed then its a normal performance...when he succeeds when others fail then that is a success...its not a difficult concept really...today was a good display but not a brilliant one for reasons I have already explained...

Today we were lot down by the top order...maybe a shuffle is needed and Umar and Malik should move up the order...this is especially true of Junior who is our best batsman...why he is at 7 is beyond me...

Malik batting at #8

lol @ hafeez

Where else would you send him genius?

Malik was picked to stabilize the innings, we didnt need that because Jamshed and Akmal had already done it. We needed big hitting so Malik had to be demoted. It made complete sense.

Pitch was tough to come in on. You can't analyse his performance through todays innings. Any one who does is clearly a hater and I'm not even a Malik fan :0

Even Malik did decently today, so we miss out on exposing his lack of cricketing skill.

Right decision to have Malik in at 8, I would've actually sent Gul in before him today, not because he's a bad batsman or anything - his role is to be the stabilizer, in the event of early wickets falling, he can take it from the 6th to 14th over, after then, when the assault is on, the pinch hitters should come ahead of him.

If "stabilizers" were so important for T20 teams then these players would be integral part of their T20 teams;
1. Clarke - Australia.
2. Dravid - India
3. Trott - England
4. Cook - England

...to name a few!

Take the 4 Semi Final team squads.

1. Jayawardene/Sangakkara - Sri Lanka
2. Samuels - West Indies
3. Bailey/Hussey - Australia
4. Jamshed - Pakistan

The stabilisers are there to keep the score ticking over and rotate the strike, something Malik knows and does very well. Once set, they attack. Case in point being Jamshed's knock today where he was going for less than a run a ball at one stage. He set the platform to attack later with scores. Shoaib Malik can't do that in this Twenty20 because he is coming too low in the order. Same can be said for Umar Akmal. Good players will always be able to play Twenty20 because they will adapt their strike rate and will play their shots, scoring runs.

I'll like to add another in there.

5. Virat Kohli - India

All the player's name you mentioned have following S/R since 1/1/2011;
Kohli 129.67
Sangakkara 128.92
Jamshed 126.31
Jayawardene 125.86
Hussey 115.49
Bailey 114.75
Samuels 113.30
Malik 92.93

All of the above players have full capability of scoring at much higher S/R than Malik. If we needed a "stablizer" then why did we scream to kick Misbah(98.05) out when he had better S/R than Malik?

Speaking of Malik coming too low.... his S/R is bad even when he comes low in the batting order and NEEDS to score at S/R 120+ but he can't. Meaning he does not belong in T20s.

Also... here is his S/R when he batted in #1-5 positions;

See the difference?
