Sohail Tanvir as captain in ODI/T20I?

I have a problem with the language you use to describe players from my national team.

A few don't come on merit some in particular come through nefarious means. So yes those few deserve much of absuse that comes there way.

He's a proven TTF who had a good game today. Nothing wrong with people calling a spade a spade - can't bat, can't bowl, can't field.

true..! it's just that he had a good game today.. any other day he will be bad as wahab

I dont mind that - but calling him a leech and a plague etc is simply unacceptable.

Bowled well today. Maybe, he should be preferred over Irfan in T20s? Although this was only one match after a long time...

The reason I think he's useless is because he's one dimensional and there is always the risk of the batsmen taking him to the cleaners.

Well he actually mixes up the slower balls better than any other Pakistan bowlers so he isn't one dimensional. I've always thought he was pretty useless previously but he bowled really well today. Good for him.

He's one dimensional with his change of pace. He lacks quality variations. A quality batsman will work him out easily. But yeah he bowled well today and is generally good on slow n low wickets. He's more threatening than Asad anyway so if he replaces him in the ODI squad I wouldn't mind.

As long people are not using the curse words, any abuse or love remarks should be acceptable for public forums.

If people cannot express their emotions with the right words, what is the point of coming to public forums?

whattaplaya :sohail

as usual many of the dimwit trolls are conspicuous in their absence, but no matter.

I find it distasteful and its my personal opinion.

Given the kind of stuff you say about Afridi, I can see where you are coming from!

The last over bowled by him was brilliant - totally bamboozled the batsmen. If this is the way he will bowl in the future then I am happy he is back.

Especially considering how Asad Ali and Wahab have bowled on this tour. Tanvir is no world beater but it's time to lay off. Maybe Hafeez is smarter than he's given credit for when he has backed him previously.

Tanvir bowled well yesterday as his slow deliveries were very effective on that pitch.

Tanvir's major problems are fitness related and lack of control because of difficult action, he always had that deceptive action and swing with the new ball.

Shouldn't be persisted with regardless. He has had his chances.

Sad to see people hating him on a personal level. I too think he's a useless player but I will never wish him to do bad or anything. If he performs what's the problem?

So, if a player performs the general norm is that he is persisted with right?

But in your posts you are contradicting yourself...

I'm glad he bowled well. Pakistan needed him to bowl well so as not to lose the match.

However, I still want him as far away as possible from the international team, regardless of the format.

Unless he's completely reinvented his game and starts performing consistently, there should be no place for him.

One good spell and it's time to bring out the humble pie? Don't think so. Once he's actually proven to be a changed player, then, yes.

Tanvir usually bowls well, with new ball and at the death. Its his fielding that is the problem, atrocious fielder !

I have a problem with people "hoping" that he plays poorly. I know he's a mediocre player but I will still hope that somehow he plays well. My point is that if by some means he transforms himself into a quality player, what is the problem with him playing then? Apparently some people don't want him to succeed because they dislike him on a personal level.

Don't we have at least 10 better and younger bowlers than him in domestic circuit?

I know a lot of people really hope he performs poorly and genuinely hate him whilst giving him badd dua every time he steps on to the pitch, the fact remains that he's comfortably our best seamer in T20s and there is no way Junaid should be ahead of him in the pecking order when it comes to this format and glad to see Hafeez and Whatmore concurring with me.

Ya he was something to offer otherwise counties etc would not spent money on him

after Gul he is Pakistan's best T20 pacer.

what he may lack in speed he makes up with in variations and out-thinking the batsman.

but of course most of the blind fanboy types here don't see it.

^ There is a difference between not liking a player and HOPING that he does poorly.

Its the latter that puts me off.

No one can crucify you for not liking a certain player or not rating him, but hoping that he does poorly because you don't like him is pathetic.

When players you don't like perform, you appreciate them and wish them well but when players whom you don't want perform do well, you get seriously hurt and there a lot of tortured souls on Pakpassion these days :inzi

as a bowler yes he can make t20 side but as captain NO .. his body language is enough to take the team morale down ! no energy nothing - fields like snail , isnt vocal , looks disintrested - dont knw how he is made captain of Pindi

he is too inconsistent for captain, should only be in the T20 squad because when he's good he can destroy any batting lie up cos of his strange action, though when he's bad he can gift the opposition a victory from the jaws of defeat

He is fine as a T20 bowler but to suggest he be made captain is possibly the stupidest idea of all time.

First time I've seen this thread but AZ.. you must have been smoking some strong stuff when you posted this...

Re: Sohail Tanvir As Captain in ODI/T20?

:))) Went wicketless against Zimbabwe in a Two-match T20 series. Even Anwar Ali got cheap wickets in the series lol.

He is still our best T20 seamer.

Better than Junaid and Irfan who shouldn't be included in the T20 squad.

Economy rate is the most important factor in T20s.

He had the best economy rate of all seamers in the series apart from Irfan who bowled just 3 overs compared to Tanvir who completed his quota.

It's way to dismiss Junaid as a t20 bowler, He has has good performances in county plus is yet to play 2 games consecutively

Kukri's Zimbabwe tour

Irfan shouldn't be playing in this pointless format anyway.

I don't rate him. He's performed well against Zimbabwe, and I'm glad. Especially considering how average the other bowlers were.

However, it does not justify his overall mediocrity. He's not worthy of the team and I'm hoping we find a much better seamer to accompany Gul in T-20s.

As for Junaid, he shouldn't be playing in T-20s.

He is definitely Pakistan's best seam bowler in T20s

I saw him in the WI tour and this series as well.

Out of all the fast bowlers, Hafeez obviously depends on Tanvir more than anyone else and always turns to him in crucial periods of the game.

Bowls off the wrong foot, can swing the ball both ways and has a very good slower ball.

I dont care if he didnt get any wickets. He bowled better than Anwar Ali and Asad Ali.

Its baffling to see Anwar and Asad in the ODI squad and not Tanvir.

he is in the radar for Wt20 2014 and i think this series he has done well

He seems to have improved. Bowled economically.
His death bowling has been good with slower balls, yorkers, etc.

Yeah Junaid himself averaged 100+ in the Champions Trophy.

Oh not this again! Didnt expect it from u atleast. Junaid is the best bowler among all Pakistan seamers in all formats except t20s where he is behind gul. He is relatively new and one CT should not be used to undermine his quality.

And this thread is about tanvir being the captain. Do u think he should be made the captain?

he's improved, hopefully Hampshire stint helped him

Too early to say that. Tanvir has always had a couple of good performances in his comebacks but rubbish otherwise. When there's just a bit in it for the bowlers, he can be a handful IF he gets it right. But in Bangladesh next year, he would get smashed by batsmen from good teams.

With Junaid averaging a lot in the Saffer series, and Kukri bowling well, with Hafeez dropped from the test side, can he be our next test captain?

Haters gonna hate :farhat

Far better with the new ball than Junaid.

Junaid is a third seamer. Not an opening bowler.

you guys do realize that Sohail Tanvir always gives his input on field placement to other bowlers and Misbah. This shows that he has got the skills for captaincy.

Come on shahrukh619, you can't really believe that even now

He is a liability in the field. It won't be long before he breaks down after couple of more matches.

lol tanvir is an insecure coward

Even after hammad made his best ever list A and t20 scores Tanvir batted aheaded of him in the next game. Last kind of person i would want as a leader

i think his injury days are over...... He has been looking much better after his knee surgery.

That was disgraceful.

Expect him, for a quite a while, to be part of the limited overs squad. He's got his backers.

Keeps his place in the side for the next game with that crucial wicket of JP Duminy

I guess Junaid comes in for Wahab :dav

if we lose this game then maqsood will probably come in for riaz , he is a decent part timer as well

Don't. Even. Think. About. It.
I can't see what this guy did to get into the team, there's no freaking way he's taking over from Misbah. If this is what's in store for Pak cricket, I'm changing loyalties.

And he follows it up with a nice 30 as well.

How come no praises?

Why do I get the feeling that there is bias against certain players on PP?

You knew the mode of dismissal the moment he arrived at the crease

Re: Sohail Tanvir As Captain in ODI/T20?

Always good for a laugh to read the title of this thread.

Always cheers me up to know I'm never ever going to be the most blunt tool in the shed.

its a captaincy thread, not a performance thread ;-)

an Afridi fanboy will by default always be the most blunt tool in the shed.

This thread and the other Umar Amin thread are proof that these two have active lobbyists. That is the only reason they are in the team. They have lobbying power somehow. Otherwise, they are below average cricketers. They can't bowl, can't field, and can't bat.

Anyone remember that dreadful drop catch by Umar Amin during "that" Test series in England? Unbelievable that he is still in the team after that.

I hope I am wrong, but I suspect the lobbyists have other intentions for making them captain.
