What's new

Somerset vs Pakistanis | Tour Match | Taunton | Jul 3rd-5th, 2016 | Match drawn

It doesn't matter one bit. You just can't lose. You rather not have your best player start another spell, try too hard, and possibly risk injury.

Amir and Rahat were on the break for so long, sir.

And if you had to protect them then why were they bowling before SK (should've thrown ball at Asad and Azher and protect your key operators)? Both bowled 17 overs together and 1 over wouldn't injured them.

On contrary Yasir bowled 32 overs, which is bad captaincy. Why would you push your main spinner for that long in a side game in a day? So injury concern could be applied in his case. Ideally, Misbah should give ball to Azhar, who many need to role his arms in the coming Test series.

Anyways it's over...

Lol yesterday you were saying its a good performance.. Atleast be consistent for 24 hours.. :))

Yesterday was yesterday; today is today.

Pace bowling was pretty ordinary today, hence it was not a good performance.

world class cricket performance from Pakistan. Nearly beat Somerset in 3 days

I won't even moan about the result.

So long each player in starting line up has had game time then I am satisfied. It is practice after all.

Whether the opponents are tough or not is something I won't moan about either. Facing tougher opponents would only dent the players' confidence and it is not as if 1-2 week of practice through such matches will change the fate of the actual series.

Brilliant game. Everyone looks to be in good nick regardless of how great or little they scored whilst batting. Bowlers look fresh and eager to knock over the stumps and I feel we got the perfect blend to go ahead and challenge England in the Test series.

Sohail Khan showing how garbage he is today.

And we let an old guy like Treschotick score a run a ball hundred oh my

Very good performance by Pakistan in it's first outing. Whiners will whine no matter what.

Bro you are crying too much these days

Sohail Khan is a garbage bowler, have always maintained that.

Amir did decently Yasir as well, track was flat like someone said above. Amir still needs to prove it on tracks like this. Has an entire career ahead, he very well may do it.

I'm not gonna chest beat on a draw to a 6th ranked county team.

The goal wasn't to draw but get a good workout. If they really wanted to win they would have declared yesterday and bowled them out today easily. They are not going to go full throttle in a three day match against a county. It's a long tour and Pakistan needs to pace themselves smartly other wise they will run out juice very quickly.

True. I'm happy for Yasir he needs confidence here.

Though the pace attack looks dodgy. Amir is fine, but Rahat and Sohail go for plenty. Maybe Wahab is superior here.

That's one way to look at it. But, remember, we were on the brink of victory INSIDE 3 days. Had we even 4 or 5 days, victory was definitely ours. I think there's lots of positives.

Apparenlty Sohail Khan is Mickey Arthur's favourite and is certain to start

Yes but that's an issue too. Remember why India couldn't seal the deal in 2013 onwards in either of SAF, ENG, and mainly AUS it's because they couldn't close out the game in the last few days when they had things in their hand. Like defending a huge total vs SAF which ended up as a draw and the massive chase vs Aus in one of the last few tests in which they were well on their way but collapsed.

If we can't do that against a team like Somerset, then that is an issue. Of course, like someone above said, winning wasn't the priority here, getting assimilated was, which we got done.

But it's something to keep in mind.

Good warm up game, Batsmen all got time in middle and bowlers got plenty of overs under their belts as well, this is what was needed. Hopefully 2nd warm up match will be the same.

I'd rather bowl Younis Khan instead of playing Sohail Khan. I think even Anwar Ali can bowl faster than him. WHat's use of skills when you don't have any speed. ordinary bowler to me.

Bro you are crying too much these days

he's right. Sohail has no speed. His best skill is the slower ball and little bit variations like off cutter. These are ODI bowling skills. I don't think he will be that handy in tests.

I find it amazing Yasir delivered 32 overs in a row.

Very good performance this game I must say.

Took wickets but needs to control those runs.
