South Africa (212/3) defeat India (211/4) by 7 wickets to win the 1st T20I

Pandya should have turned the strike over. DK had the highest strike rate in 20th over in the recent IPL.

Good team.

I would just play another seamer in place of Ashwin perhaps. Our 1st game against Pakistan and they play spin well.

Not sold on Chahar and Prasidh. I also want Jaddu in place of Ashwin.

Chahar is super utility in t20. Can swing the ball in the first 3 overs in any conditions on most days. If he can give you 3 overs at the start where he picks up 1-2 wickets and keep it tight, his 1-2 remaining overs can be made up by Hardik.

Also his batting is criminally underrated. He is actually a better well rounded loi batsman than Thakur, Harshal,Jadeja, Axar, Bhuvi, Ashwin (most lower order bats)

Also I am not a huge Ashwin fan but I think he has more utility than Jaddu in T20 except for fielding. Jaddu is neither an attacking bowling or a batting option. Ashwin can be helpful against all the lefties and also compliments Yuzi well. Can also bat a bit compared to other spinners.

Bumrah is the only death over bowler in your XI. Need Harshal as well.

Moshin should have been ahead of him. Our selectors don’t have a concept of picking on form.

I have seen Aussie teams randomly bringing some 30+ yr old into the side because he hit a purple patch in domestics. Our selectors are still stuck on previous reputation etc.

His USP is slower ball variations and he is brilliant in Indian conditions.

Question is - will his ball grip in Australia?
 
Patels trademark dipper castles Pretorius. dips so very late and fools Pretorius
 
India should be flexible enough in trying players on conditions.

You can use Ishan Kishan on flat pattas, Shreyas Iyer against teams with not very high pace and two spinners, Yuzi and Kuldeep together vs teams struggling vs spin.

He got the grip in UAE. Only time will tell what happens in Australia.
 
South Africa batter Aiden Makram was on Thursday ruled out of the opening T20I against India after he tested positive for COVID-19, Makram, who was a part of the recently-concluded Indian Premier League, was unavailable for selection for the series opener of the five-match series, revealed captain Temba Bavuma at the toss. He had cleared the first round of testing along with the rest of the South African squad last week after arriving here on June 2.

“Aiden was not available for selection as he tested positive for Covid, Stubbs comes in and it is a debut for him,” Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma said at the toss here.

South Africa have handed a debut to youngster Tristan Stubbs

Would be a shame if that happens. I want to see the ropes right back at the World T20 in Australia. Would bring bowlers, especially spinners, into the game big time.

it will continue to be bigger. Even by Indian standards, Delhi ground is smaller. Almost like NZ grounds. India has several bigger grounds as well with long boundaries. It is all about getting the placement right.
 
One thing is certain. jadeja can be done away with. He has been totally useless since late 2000s when he started playing for us.
 
You play trundlers like Bhuvi, Harshal and serial match losers like Chahal, this is the kind of result you'll get.

Lol what's going on. I thought match was over when SA needed 80 off last 6 overs. That's a huge number of runs to get in final 6 , very rarely happens and Rassie was struggling big time at that moment.
 
Dravid should stick to U-19.. I think we should go back to foreign coach for more of a planned approach.

Dravid’s belief(Imo) that match results don’t count is very high schoolish..

Yeah. Dravid has been total panauti for our senior cricket.

Didn't want to say this but Shastri for all his drinking skills, was a far better coach than Dravid will ever be.
 
Indians learnt choking from Saffers and have mastered this art by surpassing them in that regard.

You may thank our trundlers for that and yes, Dravid too whose approach is so old fashioned for the slam bang variety of cricket.
 
Very good audition given by South African players here in the first match. Indian players on the other hand are reminding themselves what International Cricket looks like after playing 3 months of useless IPL

I have said it earlier i am saying it again. These type of bowlers may look economical upfront, but if the other team resists pressure, they will slaughter them later. Reason is that they are not wicket takers. And if you have wickets in hand you can go for leather at the later half.

We can say good bye to our chances in yet another world event. And this is happening when useless players like Rohit, Kohli and Rahul aren't in this side.

Imagine what'll happen to us when they come back to XI.

Chahal has always been trash in whatever he does on a cricket field except for a few games early on in his career when teams took their time to suss him out.
 
Hiding behind the trundler excuse for far too long here. Every year we hear about phaast bowlers from IPL but when the time comes to represent India we get these sharmas and kumars. Even Rabada and Nortje went for plenty of runs. Umran's bowling figures would have looked similar to Pandya's today. :inti
 
I turned the game off thinking India would win comfortably. RRR was 12 and Rassie was playing slow.

What a turn around.

Avesh was the only saving grace and thats because he gets bounce.

Rest these trundlers are lambs for slaughter.
 
So we couldn't extend our winning streak! When asked about it Dravid said pre match he hasn't thought about it.

lol, he knew his team will be thrashed like there is no tomorrow.
